Private Vacation Home
Retreat in the Lake Michigan Dunes
West Olive, Michigan, United States
Enjoy four seasons of relaxation in West Michigan. Our beautiful beach-themed property is built into the side of a wooded sand dune with three floors of living space and two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a loft with a sofa sleeper. Enjoy a winter retreat cuddling in front of the fireplace, roasting marshmallows in the outdoor fire ring, or taking advantage of nearby groomed cross-country ski trails, downhill skiing, sledding, and hiking.brbrCheck back in early February for the updated listing of weekly rentals for your summer vacation. Or, check us out over a long weekend at our winter rates! brbrLocation:brThis beautiful lake home is in a rural lakeshore neighborhood mid-point between Grand Haven and Holland, Michigan. Both of these vacation communities offer lots of winter activities, boutique shopping, local restaurants, brew pubs, museums, community events, theaters, and other entertainment options. And, both downtowns have heated sidewalks (yes, really!) for snow and ice-free walking and early morning runs. brbrFor outdoor activities there are groomed and lighted cross country skiing trails, ski lessons, snowshoe trails, a sledding hill, lodge, and equipment rental at Pigeon Creek County Park (within 10 miles), and a Nature Center, winter hiking, and snowshoe trails and rental at Hemlock Crossing County Park (5 miles). Mulligan’s Hollow in Grand Haven offers 8 downhill ski runs with old-school tow ropes, snowboarding, and sledding. If you are willing to travel farther, cross country skiing, ice skating trails, and a luge run can be found at Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park, located 35 miles north.brbrOr, stick around the house to enjoy wooded views, quiet walks around the neighborhood, and time in front of the fireplace or roasting marshmallows over the outside fire ring. If you’re in the mood for a chilly winter walk along Lake Michigan, Kirk Park is a short walk away with a beautiful 68-acre well-maintained park with year-round lake access and hiking trails. The Lakeshore Connector Path runs along Lakeshore Drive, just steps from our front door. Depending on the weather, it may be open during your stay. brbrAbout the property:brOur beautiful custom-built home in the Lake Michigan dunes is only six-years old and is definitely not a cabin. The main floor includes a living room area with comfy sofas and chairs, beautiful gas fireplace and lots of local artwork. Enjoy the Bose stereo with CD player (and our eclectic set of music CDs) and a 27” television. The Amish-made dining table is guaranteed to seat your entire group. Enjoy cooking in the full kitchen with a center-island eating area with appliances that include a refrigerator, dishwasher, double-oven, and ceramic cooktop. Glassware, dishes, flatware, bakeware, and cooking pots are available for our guests. A Keurig one-cup coffee maker, toaster, slow-cooker, and Cuisinart sorbet/ice cream maker are just a few of the appliances at your disposal. A desk/work station with computer monitor is also available for guest use.brbrThe double set of sliders on the west side of the first floor bring in the sunshine and provide access to the covered porch with another large dining table. The covered porch has ceiling-mounted heaters and a ceiling fan for multiple seasons of use. Access the house's flagstone patio, fire ring, and gas grill from the covered porch or through the back hallway. A half-bath and full-sized washer and dryer (available for your use) are located at the back of the first floor.brbrOne flight up you will find two bedrooms and a full bath. Bedroom 1 has a full bed, dresser, and views the wooded rear of the property. Bedroom 2 is kid-ready with two sets of bunk beds, cubbies with toys, plus an available pack-and-play for our youngest guests. The roomy bathroom on this floor is equipped with a sink, toilet, shower, and plenty of fluffy towels. There is one bedroom on this level that is locked and not available to our guests. The upper-level deck that you see in photos of the front of the house is through this bedroom so it is also not available to our guests. brbrOne more flight up is a large sunshine-filled loft with floor to ceiling bookcases and a sofa bed (double bed) for an additional sleeping area if needed. Feel free to enjoy any of the books you find here, but please do leave them when you as depart as they are our collection. Or, if you are in the mood for some board games or puzzles you will find them in the loft closet. The large coffee table makes this a great space for game night. There is another flat-screen television in the loft for your use.brbrFor our young guests, out the back door you will find a treehouse with a slide, climbing wall, swing set, and a trail through the children’s woods. And for the adults, a Sole treadmill and a Bowflex Max Trainer for your use are located in the heated garage on the lower level.brbrThere is off-street parking for up to two guest vehicles and when it snows, a service will provide clearing of the stairs to the front door and the driveway. brbrAs the photos show, our house has multiple levels. If you struggle with stairs, this may not be the vacation home for you. There is one flight of stairs from the parking space to the main floor/first floor (inside or outside steps), and one or two more flights to the sleeping areas. brbrBetween guest stays our home is cleaned by a professional cleaning company that utilizes natural cleaning products and anti-bacterial sprays on high-touch areas. The bed, bath, and kitchen linens are cleaned by a laundry service. We don't ask our guests to wash their linens.brbrThis is our home that we hope others will enjoy when we are traveling. Our neighbors are not renters - they are couples and families who live here to enjoy the peaceful and friendly neighborhood, great outdoors, and the vacation amenities that this area of West Michigan offers. If this is what you are looking for, then you have found your West Michigan winter retreat in the dunes!brbrNote: If you are looking for somewhere to “let loose” this is not the place for you. We do not permit events or party weekends.brbrbrbrbrbr
