The harbor is home to over a hundred working lobster fishing boats. Many of the local families date back to the late 1700’s. Jonesport is located a little over an hour north of Acadia National Park and the same distance south of Lubec at the Canadian border. Both directions give generous opportunities for hiking, kayaking, and wildlife viewing (including whales, seals, and puffins!). Nearby, there are hiking trails on Great Wass Island. Amble down to the fishing wharf and buy fresh caught Maine lobster or clams for your dinner. Go three miles north where public access is provided to walk the beautiful Sandy River Beach. The 4th of July festivities include a parade on Main Street and the ever popular Lobster Boat races! Or, come in August, for locally grown wild blueberries and the first arrival of migratory whales. brbrPort Tack dates back to 1904 and has been newly renovated. The house is open and airy, but still retains the feel and charm of its history. With 2,200 square feet of living space, it sits on a 20 foot high bank, directly on the water, nestled amongst traditional Downeast homes. Enjoy waterfront views from every room across Moosabec Reach to Beal's Island and Alley Bay.brbrDownstairs features an open floor plan including a living, dining, and kitchen area with sweeping views through large picture windows. Watch the lobster boats come and go, as bald eagles soar overhead. The downstairs bedroom is furnished with a double bed. Adjacent is a bathroom with an antique claw foot tub with shower. The kitchen is equipped with all the amenities to cook your own meals. There is a large slate farm house sink, (sorry, no dishwasher) with plenty of counter space and a breakfast bar. Two built in Pullman bunks are located under the eaves on the second floor.
