One-level living makes it suitable for all ages – from crawling babies to folks who would prefer a place where they don't have to navigate stairs. And being at the end of a private lane, you can count on solitude and a chance to truly decompress during your visit. brbrAt one end of Island View is a gorgeous great room with a cathedral ceiling. Loads of windows open to wonderful breezes and views of the bay and nearby islands. Settle into comfortable seating to relax, watch a movie, or read a book in the living area. When the evenings get chilly, the glow and ambience of the gas fireplace will welcome you home after a busy day. The partially covered deck off the living area gets you even closer to the shore and is a restful place to sit with your morning coffee. If you're an early riser, you can watch many of the local lobstermen set off for the day's haul. After dinner, you can sit in those same chairs and enjoy the sunset. The dining alcove seats six for meals and can easily convert to a work area with high-speed internet for anyone who needs to check in with the office while away. The spacious kitchen includes lots of storage, a full compliment of all you need to cook up a feast, a large island, dishwasher, and beautiful granite surfaces.brbrAt the other end of the cottage is the master bedroom with a queen bed, television, and an en suite bathroom with dual sinks and tiled shower. The kitchen is equipped with soapstone countertops and stainless-steel appliances. Please note that there is no dishwasher. The kitchen has everything you'd need. A full bathroom completes the first floor.brbrThe location of the Sand Dollar Cottage in West Point makes an ideal “home base” for any vacation you choose. For those who “need to get away from it all” you can spend your entire vacation in West Point. Guests can lazily relax on our deck or perhaps take a short stroll to Cat Cove for swimming, shell collecting and tide pool exploring. Cat Cove is a great location to launch your kayaks for a day of exploring nearby harbors and islands. Be sure to keep a look out for eagles, loons, cormorants and seals! A Maine vacation must is fresh seafood for a lobster or clam bake. You can take a leisurely stroll down to the local lobster pound for the fresh catch of the day.brbrHistory: For those of you who enjoy more history and more activity, West Point and its surrounding areas provide just that. West Point is one of the oldest and scenic fishing villages in Maine. Many of the locals are descendants of the original fishermen who settled here. Close to West Point is historic Popham. Popham State Beach is a beautiful 500 acre beach of white sand. It is definitely worth a visit. When the tide is out, you can walk across the beach to a nearby island. Fort Popham, from the Civil War years is close by and is ready to be explored.brbrThe nearest city to West Point is Bath, “the City of Ships”. Maine’s first ships were built here in this area around 1607-1608. If you are interested in shipbuilding the Maritime Museum offers a glimpse into Maine’s boat building past.brbrShopping and exploring: Quaint shops and restaurants make Bath a fun day trip. Boat rentals can be found in Bath for touring or fishing the Kennebec River. Golf courses are also in the area. To the north of Bath is Boothbay Harbor. It is another excellent day trip for vacationers! It has shops, restaurants and antiques. Whale watching, Puffin watching and lighthouse boating excursions are available at the wharf. Brunswick, another historic town nearby offers shopping, restaurants, Bowdoin College and the Joshua L. Chamberlain Museum. L.L.Bean’s flagship store is located south in Freeport. It is opened 24 hours a day and is a good place to go on rainy days. Freeport also has many name brand outlets. Downtown Bath (seven and a half miles) has adorable boutique stores as well as great riverfront restaurants and galleries. Popham Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in coastal Maine, is a short 12.5-mile drive from the house, and Reid State Park is 22 miles away. Boothbay Harbor (31.3 miles) has great mini-golf, restaurants, schooner rides, whale watching, and shopping.brbrThe main living space is located on the home's second level. It features a sunroom with a dining table perfect for evening games or family meals. There is a large dining room table with six chairs and an inviting living room with a smart TV and views of the water. The open-concept kitchen with stainless steel appliances is well-equipped for meals at home. Directly off the kitchen is a full bathroom with double sinks and a modern glass shower. The spiral staircase leads to the upper primary sleeping space with a spacious bed, closet space, and a lovely balcony with expansive views of the water. Following the spiral staircase back to the lower level; there is a half bathroom, laundry area, living room, and sitting area with another smart TV - great for family game night or a quiet reading spot.
