Experience the perfect blend of tranquility and adventure at The Charles Hotel, nestled in the heart of Twin Lakes Historic Village. This timeless residence has been thoughtfully remodeled to provide the utmost comfort and convenience. Tucked away in the National Forest at the base of the Rockies, this remote sanctuary offers an abundance of hiking trails, historic sites, and natural marvels. Let the stunning alpine vistas be your ideal gateway to the untamed beauty of Colorado's wilderness.brbrWe're here for you during your stay but our level of interaction is up to you. We are only a phone call or message away. You will be able to self check-in upon arrival. We are happy to assist via phone or through Airbnb before, during or after your stay.brbrOnce a week, one of our team members will stop by the property to put out the trash cans, replenish our supplies, and/or restock sheets and towels. They will NOT enter the home. They have access to the garage or shed with a code. This day may or may not fall during your stay.brbrTwin Lakes, once a transportation hub for mining towns, has been called Colorado's most charming summer resort since 1885. With stunning views of Mt. Elbert and the twin lakes, this small town offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Enjoy breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, clear lake views, and panoramic perspectives of the surrounding mountains. Located along the Top of the Rockies Scenic Byway, Twin Lakes is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts with opportunities for hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, fishing, skiing, and snowmobiling. Our cabin is located on a county road that gets plowed when there's snow but we still recommend AWD/4x4 with good tire tread in the snowy months (generally December to April). Winter driving conditions on the highways leading to the cabin can change in very short amounts of time. We recommend checking the conditions before you start driving our way and plan accordingly. Colorado has some specific winter driving laws pertaining to tire requirements. The fine for violating the traction law is pretty expensive so we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the law before driving during the winter.br brSpeaking of snow, this is the Colorado Rockies so be prepared! We do our best to plow the area in front of the cabin and shovel the walkway. However, the remote nature of this place can make these tasks delayed. We do provide a shovel in case you need to clear a path.brbrbrDating back to the 1880s, this enchanting property boasts a rich history as a bustling hub for the local mining communities. Its storied past has been carefully preserved and enhanced through recent renovations, ensuring an exquisite blend of old-world charm and contemporary comfort. Mountain roads are maintained and plowed but we cannot control weather related delays or road closures. We highly recommend hAWD/4WD. The final mile to Mt Massive Lodge is a gravel road that is plowed by one of the local residents when 4 or more inches of snow falls. He also plows the driveway. Plan accordingly and be sure to pay attention to the local and regional weather. We are located just shy of 10,000 feet so please drink plenty of water to avoid altitude sickness.br2. Sometimes the wind kicks up to remind us of all the things we cannot control, but it usually settles down again within a few hours. You would be best not to leave belongings outside.br3. Wildlife is somewhat rare but has been known to wander through so please do not leave food outside at night.br4. Be prepared with lots of clothing layers so you can adapt to changing conditions. Mountain storms come and go quickly. brbrRESPECTbrThe Trout Retreat Cabin is located in a remote, tiny mountain town. Twin Lakes is pretty amazing; in fact, our family is a little apprehensive to share it with others. As visitors to the area, please think about your impact on our town and the small surrounding communities. Please respect full-time residents' privacy and solitude. Follow Leave No Trace guidelines when visiting and recreating in the beautiful outdoors, and consider supporting local dining and shopping during your stay.brbrSMOKINGbrWe like to keep our cabins as fresh as the outside alpine air. If you need to smoke, you'll need to step outside to do so. There will be a $600 fine for any smoking inside the cabins.brbrFIREbrThere is currently a fire ban in place. Violations of this prohibition is punishable as a Class B misdemeanor by a fine of not more than $5,000. Please be careful and check with Lake County for more recent updates.brbr---brbrLike this listing or want to save it for later Add to your wishlist by clicking the ❤ in the upper-right corner.
