Everyone can relax at the end of the day and enjoy this excellent space with views of the ocean. The Briars is a 19th century shingle style “cottage” located in the heart of York Harbor, Maine and a short five minute walk to the beach. Listen to the fishing boats as they depart the Harbor each morning, smell the salty air and feel the gentle ocean breeze. The home has been entertaining guests for over a century, most recently as a bed-and-breakfast for the past 30 years. You’ll have plenty of room for gathering with family and friends including lots of space for lounging on one of the many porches/decks. Some of the rooms offer views of the harbor where time will slowly pass as you watch the boats come and go. 8 bedrooms with 7 bathrooms means plenty of room for the whole family without long wait times to take a shower! The charming home was renovated to include 5 new bathrooms (the other two of seven are already modern) and new furnishings to ensure you have a very comfortable stay. We offer one of the best per room/per night fees or per person/per night of any large rental in York Harbor.brbrOur home is in an ideal spot to enjoy the sought after environs of York Harbor. Guests can easily walk to the Harbor Beach known for its family friendly atmosphere. The Cliff Walk starts at the Harbor Beach and offers spectacular views of the rocky Maine coast and stunning Victorian mansions. The Hartley Mason estate is a beautiful public park overlooking the Harbor Beach with flower gardens and plenty of shade from the summer sun. Moulton Park is two doors down the street from us with a fantastic space for any outdoor activity with lots of sun and shade. The Fisherman’s Walk is steps away where you stroll along the river and enjoy views of the boats coming in and out of the harbor – including lobsterman with their fresh catch of the day. Fisherman’s walk brings you to the Wiggly Bridge-Steadman Woods where you can take a loop through the forest or continue walking to the historic York Village. York Village (less than five minutes away by car in case you lost track of how long you’ve been walking) was settled in 1624 (3 years after Plymouth Plantation!) and offers a rich array of historical buildings (e.g Old Gaol – one of the oldest jails in America; a one room school house; Jefferds Tavern; The Old Burying Ground featuring 18th-19th century carved tombstones; and the John Hancock Warehouse etc.).brbrThe Harbor is rich in culture and fine dining. The York Art Association is located a few houses down the street from us. George Marshall store gallery is located through the Steadman Woods and has a series of art exhibits during the year (the curator lives down the street from our house). There are other small galleries and shops in the Village. York Harbor Inn, Stage Neck Inn, and Chapman Cottage each offer award winning dining and are all a five minute walk from our home. The Dockside Restaurant is located across the harbor (five minute drive away) and is a great spot to view the marina and have a great meal. When you first arrive you will drive down a long secluded beautiful driveway offering Maine wildlife, the driveway is nearly 1/8 mile long. When you arrive to the house you will be greeted by a cedar shingle home with detached barn and plenty of parking for 6 vehicles. Upon entering the home you will walking a breeze way with a hallway closet. Exiting the breezeway to the right is a private bedroom offering a queen size bed and a bathroom with a big shower. The washer and drier are also located here. Exiting the bedroom and you will find your way to the dining area which is in the middle of a nice large living room, offering plenty of seating for everyone and an amazing view of the York River. There is access to the deck from this room. On the other side of the dining area is the kitchen offering plenty of prepping space. The dining room offers access to the deck. As you walk through the kitchen there is another outdoor seating area, perfect for sipping your morning coffee with the ocean breeze, or a special evening drink watching the sun go down. Upstairs offers three bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. At the top of the stairs to the right is a nice size secluded bedroom offering a double size bed. To the left of the stairs is a nice walkway leading to bedroom number three with 2 twin size beds and a full bathroom just outside the room. Further down the hallway is bedroom number four which is a nice generous space with three single beds and a half bath. Outside in the backyard is the York River. There are stairs to access the water as well as a dock. To the left of the stairs leading to the water is another access point to the water, however this access offers a unique pully system handy for getting the kayaks in and out of the water. The deck and backyard offer ample space for entertaining and games. The bonus loft can be found above the detached barn. There is a TV and couch up there, perfect for the kids to play and relax. There is no bathroom in this space. Past guests have set up an inflatable pool for kids, a canopy for shade, and of course yard games. The harbor is fun for fishing, paddle boards, kayaks, etc. but bring some water shoes (the harbor is muddy)! There is a grill ready for you, with extra propane tanks.brbrThere are a few things you should know. The decor of the house is older. There is a long-term tenant who lives in a basement apartment; both spaces are secure from one another with separate entrances. The dock is utilized by about 10 boats; it is fully booked but sometimes a visiting boat can be accommodated. There is separate parking on the far side of the house for dock members. There is a security camera on the exterior of the house. The pool that you might notice in satellite photos belongs to a condo association and unfortunately is not open to the public.
