Simply perfect home for Maine adventure; equally close to the harbor & the lake

Camden, Maine, United States

Ironwood Glade Cottage is a cape, nestled in a 100-year old naturally-established glade of Ironwood oak trees just 2 miles from downtown Camden and 1 mile from Megunticook Lake. It feels like a far-away woodland setting and has the luxury of space, lawn, and firepit, with the convenience of being close to the village. brbrOwned by an interior designer, Ironwood Glade consists of two units: The Cottage House and the Tree House. This listing is for the Cottage, which is prominently located and surrounded by established gardens and a huge yard. The smaller hidden Tree House unit has separate amenities and will periodically be occupied by the hosts during the summer of 2023. It is completely hidden from guest view as one arrives at The Cottage.brbrbrThe Cottage is freshly painted. Each bedroom is well appointed and comfortable with important details that make a house a home. brbrThe jumbo-king guestroom looks out over the back garden and is fitted with a vintage bed frame holding a luxurious new custom mattress. Caned white oak nightstands and custom ginger-gar lamps bracket the bed. This bedroom has a full closet - freshly painted white - with built-in shelving and rods.brbrThe front (queen) guestroom looks out over the front garden. It is fitted with a headboard made from vintage window shutters and woven reading lights, providing a backdrop for a new mattress and custom bed skirt. The cozy upholstered chair is ready for coffee and a book. This bedroom also has a closet - freshly painted white - with built-in shelving and rods.brbrThe front (queen) guestroom has an adjoining Den (a separate room accessed by functional doors). This is the third bedroom, if needed. The Den overlooks the front porch and garden and is furnished with a vintage Thonet rocker and a new sofa that folds into a the most comfortable (full sized) bed in the house. The Den also has a full closet - freshly painted white - with built-in shelving and rods.brbrIronwood Glade Cottage has a large fully-fitted Kitchen (I am a chef!), a brand new stove, good ventilation, and many cabinets and drawers containing appealing dishes, glassware, as well as cooking tools including Quisinart and Instapot. A 52 wide Sub-Zero fridge-freezer makes fresh food storage easy. A bamboo-framed breakfast table overlooks the back garden.brbrThe Kitchen adjoins and looks into the Living Room, which makes low-key Maine-living natural. Everyone gravitates to the kitchen; what is better than these two spaces connecting in an effortless way brbrThe Living Room has swivel chairs, a long sofa, a conversation nook with two additional newly upholstered chairs, and sliding door which allows access to the huge deck and back garden with bubbling brook.brbrThe Dining Room adjoins the kitchen on the opposing side and overlooks the front porch and front garden. It sits 6 comfortably and 8 good friends.brbrAt the far side of the Cottage there is space for business with a large desk, lateral file drawers, and an HP printer/scanner. The desk area blends into the mudroom and generous laundry room with storage closet. The laundry room has a pair of current model machines; the dryer is gas and highly efficient.brbrArtworks featured in The Cottage are fresh, fun, and thoughtfully selected paintings and photographs from local artists. brbrOutside Ironwood Glade Cottage a wide lawn and manicured perennial gardens are tidy and maintained with a bubbling brook winding through the back garden. A spacious deck, BBQ grill, and fire pit allow for your days to dial down with outdoor meals and s'mores under the stars. Additional amenities included are contactless check-in, a rigorous cleaning protocol between guests, high speed WiFi, Roku TV, rubbish collection, weekly lawn maintenance, bi-weekly gardener, and pet-safe electric fence. We adored it! We have traveled extensively in the US and throughout Europe, but this is at the top of the list of where we want to return. The house is utterly charming--so comfortable, fully renovated, completely equipped kitchen, the ideal place to come home to each and every day. It is perfectly situated at the edge of town--we started each morning with a stroll past the harbor to the local bakery, returning to the house to dine al fresco on the side terrace. Ah, I wish I were there now! The third floor of this home is a special treat--a tree house of an attic garret, full of light, the perfect place to read a book or gaze at the stars through the skylights. Be sure to enjoy hot chocolate in front of the fire in the living room on a cold morning, a glass of wine in the rocking chairs on the porch, and interesting conversation around the table in the fascinating dining room. The town itself is a dream--gorgeous white wooden houses, a perfect Main Street stretched along a harbor filled with wooden schooners, fun shops, delicious dining, a terrific library, overflowing window boxes...just walking through town is a treat in itself, and this house is truly in the ideal spot. Everything is within walking distance! The locals are so friendly--the people at the corner grocery store knew us by the end of our stay, and when my daughter needed ginger for the cookies she was baking, she just traipsed down to her favorite bakery in town and they happily gave her some!! Camden truly is what you picture when you think idyllic New England town. And there's so much to do nearby--hiking, boating, swimming in the lake, eating lobsters at a lobster pound right on the water, canoeing and kayaking, beautiful gardens, interesting art galleries...I truly cannot say enough. Camden--and this house--have become our new favorites!!!! You can't go wrong, and will truly feel lucky to have stayed here.brbr...and,brStaying in Mary and Dave’s home was one of our absolute favorites. Their home is warm, artistic, and full of character, with meaningful pieces from their travels and lives woven into every corner. It’s not just a house, it’s a life. We felt incredibly lucky to be invited into it, even just for a few days. Mary and Dave themselves are absolute treasures. We had the chance to meet them in person during our stay, and it was an instant connection. They’re warm, curious, and thoughtful people with incredible stories and deep roots in the community. You can feel their love for Camden. Camden itself was a perfect home base for exploring the coast of Maine. From mountain-top views and cliffside walks to cozy coffee shops, farmers markets, and world-class food (at basically every restaurant), we truly loved every minute. We’ll always cherish this exchange and feel so grateful to have crossed paths with Mary and Dave.brbrWhen rating your stay, please consider Short-Term Rentals Rating Scales are different than traditional hotel star rating systems.brVacational Rental Platforms considers anything below a 4.6 as negativebrWe always strive to give our guests a 5-star experience.
