Expansive Midcentury Damariscotta River home

Damariscotta, Maine, United States

Piper's Bend is a 3,500 sq ft Midcentury Modern home a mile from downtown Damariscotta. The spacious house is set on two acres and can accommodate a crowd. Sunlight fills every room thanks to walls of glass that allow guests to enjoy nature and water views. Your own private tidal dock is down a grassy path for swimming & boating (paddleboards & kayaks included). Large level yard for our bocci or badminton. Quiet, dead-end road, but only 4 minutes from Damariscotta shops and restaurants.brbrMost of the house is on the 1st floor: kitchen with pantry open to spacious dining area, screen porch with water views for dining or lounging , huge living room with wood fireplace, piano and a stage for performances, 2 full baths, 2 bedrooms, a second sitting room and laundry room. The 2nd floor holds 2 large bedrooms, both with 18-ft ceilings, one with walls of windows looking out to the water and a new en-suite bath.brbrThe walk-in closet off the master bath has often accommodated children. There is a fold-out sofa in the River Room (secondary living room). We also have a few twin foam mattresses (comfortable for children on the floor), a toddler bed and a crib.brbrKitchen is well-stocked. Treadmill in the basement.brbrThere are two incredible swings outside -- one tied 35 feet in the air from an oak tree that allows you (well, your kids!) to swing out over a patch of lupines. It's right next to a cozy fire pit overlooking a field that rolls down to the water. brbrEnjoy exploring the moss garden underneath mature oaks alongside azaleas and rhododendrons. brbrPick organic currants or blueberries. Or head down to the water to gather your own Damariscotta River oysters at low tide.brbrIncluded in the rental are two stand-up paddleboards, two adult kayaks and one child kayak. brbrYou are also welcome to enjoy The Point, a 2-acre peninsula at the end of the road with stairs to access the water, a picnic table, a kayak rack and benches to take in water and island views.brbrPiper's Bend was built by Maine author Bill Caldwell and has always been known for its gatherings. Bring your family and friends, and become a part of the tradition!

Year Round Rental Overlooking Damariscotta River

Damariscotta, Maine, United States

Splendid westerly views and gorgeous sunsets to be enjoyed by family and friends from this tasteful Cape's spacious deck, living and dining rooms, sunroom, and kitchen. Enjoy the wonderful ambiance of this easy-living floor plan with a first-floor bedroom, bath, laundry area, living room with fireplace and built-ins, a large dining area with a wide window seat, and a dining table with room for 10 people. Upstairs are two more bedrooms ( three twins and one queen) and a bathroom with a shower (no tub). The property has incredible perennial gardens with a path that leads down to the waterfront. At the waterfront is an Island owned by the Damariscotta River Association, which can be walked during low tide. The island is a great place to swim during high tide. We have three kayaks that are free to use during your stay, but please be aware that there is a steep path down to the river, we don't have a dock, and there is usually only a four-hour tidal window during which you can kayak. You must sign the waiver forms displayed in the garage to use these kayaks. The property is ideally positioned to explore the coast of Maine via the river, visit Pemaquid lighthouse just a few miles down the road, spend time in the picturesque town of Damariscotta (1.6 miles), or explore further afield by visiting Boothbay Harbor (25-minute drive), Bath (20-minute drive) or Camden (40-minute drive). Damariscotta was recently voted the #1 spot to visit in Country Living's article 40 American Towns You Haven't Heard of but Should Visit ASAP. This property is set back from a busy road 129/130, and when the windows are open, you can hear the traffic - you don't notice it after some time - so complete silence is not something you will get at this property. All of our appliances are new. This house has a split AC in the living room that cools the downstairs and a portable AC in the TV room. We have an AC in every room. This house is well equipped to handle the heat when it gets hot. This property is back on the market with a new deck, a change of sidings, and renovations to the inside of the house. We no longer have anyone living in the independent basement flat. This flat remains empty while we rent our property to guest.
