Booking now for summer & fall 2026-explore Acadia, Bar Harbor, Downeast Maine

Franklin, Maine, United States

Clean, comfy, well stocked-off beaten path but very close to lots of things—15 min to Ellsworth, Acadia National Park starts at the top of the street and you’re surrounded-it’s all over (it encompasses Mt Desert Island, Bar Harbor & Winter Harbor). About 20 min to Winter Harbor, Schoodic Point, Hancock Point, Lamoine, approx 20-25 min to Mt Desert Island & Visitor Ctr, another 10 min from beginning of island- all depending on traffic-to Bar Harbor, Cadillac Mountain. So many places to stop along coast, tons of cute towns, art, antique shops along route 1... brbrThis isn’t a sterile rental setup quickly to bang out fast cash. It’s our family home so it’s furnished just the way we like it, we rent it so we can afford to pay the bills. It’s an old house, not a fancy house, but to me & most people a very cozy & magical house. brbrI want to reiterate that this is our house, it is old, it’s quirky, we LOVE it but it’s not perfect in every single way. If you’re looking for perfect or modern please go to the the Ritz Carlton where you can expect perfection & demand a refund if you aren’t getting it. brbrI’m not striving for perfection here, my goal is a cozy, comfy, peaceful escape from my normal world. The windows are old held open by old fashioned window sticks & I don’t want to update them for convenience. I love the old windows, etc. I have a few fans & now 2 new air conditioners to use if you wish but the house is not a brand new, fully air- conditioned, modern house with every modern convenience. For me it’s about nature, simplicity, peace & quiet. It’s about a different way of life. It’s not the congested touristy trap of Bar Harbor. It’s the real down east Maine and I Iove it! If that’s what you’re looking for then you’ve found it.brbrHowever, the kitchen is fully stocked & fairly easy to cook in, there’s a microwave, toaster, blender, pretty much every appliance but no dishwasher or disposal as we’re on septic. Smart TVs upstairs & down. The kitchen & baths are updated & all appliances are new. Beds & bedding are new, clean & comfy. brbr*PETS* i don’t particularly want pets in the house -as the homeowner as it’s more wear an tear & extra cleaning, BUT I understand that we love our pet children & want them with us on vacation. There is an additional pet fee because I like to keep the house extremely clean & it takes my housecleaner a couple of more hours to clean after people have come. A few people have snuck in dogs & then I need to spend extra hours & money on cleaning which is not fair. I’ll send you double the cleaning bill if you choose to sneak your dog in without registering them & paying the pet fee which helps pay the cleaning bill & is also necessary for the insurance policy if your dog happens to destroy something. Please reg your pet & pay in advance. Or use zelle, Venmo or PayPal if you wish to avoid Vrbo taxes and fees. brbrPlease don’t steal-Most people have been lovely but a few people think it’s OK to take whatever they want-those people were charged and the police were called. Please don’t do that. This is my home & I’m trying to make it nice for you. Im renting it out so my kids & I have the opportunity to keep my great-grandmother‘s house in the family. Please be gentle & thoughtful & be a good person. br* Please note there are 2 sets of stairs. Please only use the main stair case. Back stairs are steep and for emergencies only -such as a fire *brThanks for agreeing to these basic rules.

Private Cottage with dock, kayaks, swing set, near Acadia NP on Georges Pond

Franklin, Maine, United States

Robin’s Nest is nestled on just over 2 private acres with 267’ on George’s Pond. This year round, 2 bedroom cottage sleeps 4 and is fully equipped and furnished to make your vacation a truly memorable experience. The most recent renovations in 2013 & 2014 only enhance your enjoyment.brGeorge’s Pond is has been a local favorite for generations of owners and renters who keep returning to this idyllic location year after year. The pond itself is 358 acres in size, with about 150 camps that vary in size and home to abundant wildlife, notably the fish populations, mostly brook & brown trout, pickerel, perch & small mouth bass. One of the most popular features on the pond is nearby “Dive Rock”. Dive Rock is a large boulder in the middle of the pond that has an Olympic diving board installed. Folks on the pond love rowing out to Dive Rock and leaping into the warm waters. Dive Rock is not a far paddle from Robin’s Nest. brbrOn the approach to George’s Pond, the camp road is shaded by a canopy trees. Next, you wind your way through classic stretches of farmed blueberry fields and then back under the canopy of trees. Your vacation is about to begin and you start to feel a sense a slowing of life’s sometimes hectic pace. Pulling into the driveway, this notion is confirmed as the cottage comes into view, surrounded by towering trees and framed by a shimmering, freshwater pond. You have arrived at Robin’s Nest.brbrOn the shore of Robin’s Nest, a dock extends out into the pond with a larger platform at its end. Here you can plainly see the gorgeous sand bottom this private, “cookie bite” cove enjoys. Our shore is sheltered and just perfect for children to enjoy the warm, summer water of George’s Pond. Kids aren’t the only fans ~ wildlife loves this cove and the ever bubbling spring, right on our shore. Loons, ducks & ducklings are commonly seen at this spring oasis. Add in a swim float moored in the middle of the cove, a kayak & paddleboat armada for exploring the pond (lifejackets required!) a pondside hammock & fire pit and you’ll see why Robin’s Nest is a unique hideaway for your Maine vacation.brbrThe interior has an eat-in kitchen, where a recently installed French door in the kitchen opens onto the deck so the dining area now enjoys views of the pond. The kitchen is fully equipped for your cooking needs. Views to the pond from the main living spaces are immediate and very private. The living room has ample space for relaxing, playing games, watching TV or reading a great book.brHeading down the hall from the living room the first room on your right is a full bathroom with laundry facilities which has seen extensive updates and really stands out from what one might expect for “camp” living. It includes a stack washer dryer, combination tub shower, vanity and a fully stocked linen closet with everything you need including beach towels, paper products, laundry detergent and fabric softner. Both bedrooms exude that “cabin” charm and offer a comfortable sized living space. There is a queen bed in the larger bedroom at the end of the hall and two twin beds are in the slightly smaller bedroom. Both bedrooms , the living room and the kitchen have ceiling fans.brA gas fireplace in the living room provides plenty of warmth after a midnight swim or a romantic atmosphere on a rainy evening and the wrap around deck provides a perfect setting to chill out on summer evenings while BBQing with your friends & family.brbrHigh speed, wireless internet service is on hand, as is cable TV & phone, though most guests recommend you keep the TV off. brAll your shopping needs in Ellsworth are only 15-20 minutes away and we recommend you stock up on your way to camp as there are only small convenience stores nearer the pond. Legendary Acadia National Park is a 40 minute drive, with the village of Bar Harbor a few miles beyond ANP Visitors Center. Even closer, just a mile before you turn off RT. 200 onto Cousins Road is the Downeast Sunrise Trail, part of the East Coast Greenway, which stretches from Maine to Key West, FL and allows you to hike or bike through beautiful country side not seen from any main roads. Donnell Pond Public Reserved Lands is a hidden gem of conservation land boasting the same bald eagles, granite peaks, extensive forest hiking and pristine freshwater ponds as Acadia with one thing missing: all of the other visitors! Countless other treasures hidden away in gorgeous Downeast Maine are not far from the doorstep of Robin’s Nest. Maps and more information are at the cottage.brbrThank you kindly for considering us for your Maine vacation.
