Three Generations Built This House. Now It's Yours For the Week | The Bird Coop

Highlands, North Carolina, United States

This Rent In Highlands vacation rental home is pet friendly for one small dog, under 20 pounds. Pets must be pre-approved. An additional non-refundable pet fee is required and is not included in the rental fee. Please call our office for approval and to pay the pet  fee. Failure to adhere to this policy will result in a $1000.00 fine.brbrOnly adults (25 years old and older) may reserve this property and an adult must occupy the property at all times.brbrThree Generations Built This House. Now It's Yours For the Week.brbrIn 1940, a family built a house in the Highlands mountains. They loved it enough to keep it. Loved it enough to add on as the family grew. Loved it enough to pass it down, and then pass it down again, until the third generation inherited both the property and the responsibility of honoring what it had always been — a place where a big, sprawling family could all be together under one roof.brbrThat's what this house is. And no amount of renovation changes the feeling that comes with walking through the door of a home that has been genuinely, continuously loved for over eighty years.brbrThe updates are real — modernized, comfortable, and thoughtfully done — but the 1940s bones are still here: in the proportions of the rooms, in the character that only time produces, in the particular way this house feels lived-in rather than staged. Six bedrooms. Six bathrooms. A game room. A second kitchen downstairs. Five smart TVs. A fire pit for s'mores and a gas grill for everything else.brbrIt grew with one family for three generations. It's ready for yours.brbrA Layout Built for Crowds Three levels give everyone room to find their own corner without losing the feeling of being together. The main level anchors the house with two ensuite bedrooms — one king, one queen — that give the adults in the group genuine privacy and comfort without climbing a single stair. Downstairs, the lower level functions as a nearly self-contained wing: a mini eat-in kitchen for independence, a new game room for the inevitable tournament that breaks out by night two, a queen bedroom, and a full bath. It's the level that teenagers and young adults quietly claim as their own, which keeps the main floor considerably more peaceful.brbrUpstairs, the upper level handles the rest of the group with room to spare. A very large bedroom with four twin beds — perfect for the kids, who will love the dedicated space that feels like their own — comes with an ensuite and dressing area. A king bedroom and a queen bedroom with two additional bathrooms round out the floor, giving the upper level enough variety to accommodate however the group happens to be configured.brbrEvery bedroom has its own TV. Five smart TVs across the house. Nobody negotiates the remote.brbrOutside: Two Fires, One Grill, Zero Complaints The open porch off the living area handles the social side of outdoor living — seating arranged around a fire pit table, a patio dining set for al fresco meals, and a gas grill ready for whoever volunteers to cook. When the evening calls for something more elemental, the wood fire pit pulls everyone together for s'mores, stories, and the kind of unhurried night that only happens around an open fire under a mountain sky.brbrTwo outdoor fires in one property. It turns out that's exactly the right number.brbrThe Location Downtown Highlands — acclaimed restaurants, boutique shopping, waterfalls, hiking trails, and eighty-plus years of people making memories in these mountains — is just minutes away. But with six bedrooms, a game room, a second kitchen, and two fire pits, this house has a way of becoming the destination rather than the base.brbrThree generations of one family figured that out a long time ago. You'll understand why by the end of day one.brbrWhat our guests are saying…brbrExcellent Property. This is a fantastic property for a group of adults or a group with kids. Very close to highlands. Every bed room has an attached bathroom which is a huge plus. We really enjoyed our stay. - Rent In Highlands Vacation Rental Guest, Kate U.brbrRent In Highlands Vacation Rental Cancellation PolicybrbrPolicy (A)  for reservations less than 20 days:brA reservation canceled between 0-45 days prior to arrival is not eligible to receive a refund. One Level. No Stairs. No Compromises. | Little Bear Pen

Highlands, North Carolina, United States

This Rent In Highlands vacation rental home has a strict NO PET policy. Failure to adhere to this policy will result in a $1000.00 fine.brbrOnly adults (25 years old and older) may reserve this property and an adult must occupy the property at all times.brbrSometimes the best vacation home is the one that gets out of its own way — where the layout just works, the outdoor spaces flow into each other naturally, and by day two everyone has found their spot and settled in like they've been coming here for years.brbrThat's Little Bear Pen.brbrA beautifully renovated single-level home with a bright, open floor plan, multiple private bedroom suites, a screened porch with a wood-burning fireplace, and a wraparound deck with more entry points and seating areas than you'll know what to do with. Easy to navigate, genuinely comfortable, and designed for the kind of trip where relaxing isn't an afterthought — it's the whole point.brbrInside: Open, Bright, and Surprisingly Easy -The single-level layout is one of those features that sounds practical and turns out to be transformative — no stairs between bedrooms and kitchen, no navigating the house in the dark, no one feeling separated from the group. The open floor plan keeps the living, dining, and kitchen spaces connected without crowding them, and the well-equipped kitchen with its gas stove anchors one end of the home with a large rustic dining table that makes group meals feel like an event worth lingering over. Each bedroom comes with its own private bathroom — a detail that eliminates the morning negotiation entirely and somehow makes the whole trip run smoother.brbrOutside: Where Little Bear Pen Really Lives. The outdoor layout here is quietly exceptional — and more expansive than it first appears. A covered front porch with two sets of rocking chairs handles the slow mornings, the afternoon reads, and the evenings when the view is enough. Off the dining room, a screened-in porch with a wood-burning fireplace and its own dining table becomes the natural gathering point for everyone — sheltered enough for unpredictable mountain weather, open enough to feel like outside. An uncovered deck connects the screened porch to the kitchen on one side and to the primary bedroom and guest room on the other, creating a continuous outdoor loop that means someone always has somewhere comfortable to be.brbrMultiple entry points. Multiple seating areas. One very well-designed outdoor experience.brbrThe Flow is the Feature What makes this property special isn't any single room or any single view — it's the way everything connects. Primary bedroom to deck to screened porch. Kitchen to deck to rocking chairs out front. Dining room to porch to fireplace. The house was designed for people to move through it freely, find their corner, and not feel like they have to go looking for comfort. It's just there, wherever you end up.brbrDowntown Highlands is a short drive away — restaurants, shops, waterfalls, and trails all within easy reach. But between the rocking chairs, the screened porch fireplace, and a deck that wraps the whole home together, you may find that leaving requires more motivation than expected.brbrWhat our guests are saying…brbrPerfect mountain getaway. The house is the perfect location in the mountains and only a very short drive into The downtown. I really did not want to leave. We had cozy fires and they even provided the firewood for us! Will definitely want to come back! - Rent In Highlands Vacation Rental Guest, DinabrbrRent In Highlands Vacation Rental Cancellation PolicybrbrPolicy (A)  for reservations less than 20 days:brA reservation canceled between 0-45 days prior to arrival is not eligible to receive a refund. A Private Dock. A Lake That Goes Quiet After Sunset | Sequoyah Lakeside Lodge

Highlands, North Carolina, United States

This Rent In Highlands vacation rental home has a strict NO PET policy. Failure to adhere to this policy will result in a $1000.00 fine.brbrOnly adults (25 years old and older) may reserve this property and an adult must occupy the property at all times.brbrWhat is The 100 Collection™ brbrThe 100 Collection™ imprint on a property indicates it is part of a collaborative effort to set the gold standard for vacation rentals. The professionals caring for these properties must meet the highest hospitality standards. Additionally, properties in this collection must pass specific quality, safety, and cleanliness inspections. Only locally owned and/or operated vacation rental brands are invited to be considered for this stamp of approval, which is issued by a trusted peer-to-peer collective of leading industry owners and managers.brbrTwo Miles From the Best Town in the Mountains.brbrThere's a particular kind of morning that only happens at a lakefront property — the one where you're outside with coffee before anyone else is awake, the water is completely still, and the mountains are just starting to catch the light. Lake Sequoyah does this exceptionally well. And this home, with its private dock, newly renovated deck, and unobstructed lake views from nearly every room, puts you right in the middle of it.brbrFour bedrooms. Three bathrooms. A full entertainment level that keeps everyone happy when they're not on the water. And two miles of easy road between you and downtown Highlands whenever the outside world calls.brbrThe Main Level Lives for the View - The great room announces the lake immediately — bright, open, and oriented to make the most of the water views that stretch out beyond the deck. Casual meals happen at the bar, longer ones pull everyone to the dining area, and the two king bedrooms on this level give the adults in the group the quiet, lake-facing retreats they came here for. The primary suite is luxurious in the way that actually matters — calm, comfortable, and waking up to water. The second king room delivers the same peaceful lake views with slightly less ceremony, which is not a complaint.brbrDownstairs, the Trip Gets Fun - The lower level is where vacation momentum builds. Ping pong. A gaming table. A cozy library for whoever needs a quieter corner. A PS4 for movie nights or gaming sessions that run later than anyone planned. Two additional bedrooms — a bunk room that the kids will claim immediately and a fourth king bedroom for overflow adults — share a full bathroom with walk-in shower. A laundry room on this level means longer stays are fully supported and packing light is a legitimate strategy.brbrThe Dock, the Deck, the Whole Point Step outside and the property reveals its best feature: a newly renovated deck and patio flowing down to a private dock on Lake Sequoyah. Kayaks in the morning. Fishing off the dock in the afternoon. Sunset from the deck with something cold in hand as the lake goes from gold to still. This outdoor sequence — from the patio to the dock and back — is the kind of thing that fills the days without any planning required and generates the photos that make everyone else wish they'd come.brbrLake Sequoyah is quiet, clean, and genuinely beautiful. Having a private dock on it is the kind of thing that turns a good mountain trip into the one your group talks about for years afterward.brbrHighlands, Two Miles Away - Waterfalls, hiking trails, acclaimed restaurants, boutique shopping, the Old Edwards Inn and Spa — all of it is two miles down the road. Highlands is one of those towns that rewards every season: mild summers perfect for the lake, fall color that stops you mid-sentence, winter scenery that makes the fireplace feel essential. Come whenever you can. The dock will be waiting.brbrWhat our guests are saying…brbrNew Years 2022. Highlands Lake Sequoyah Lodge was everything we had hoped it would be. Beautiful view of Lake Sequoyah off the back porch. Spacious rooms to accommodate all guests. We had a blast being able to use the kayak's on the lake. Thank you so much for an amazing weekend stay and we look forward to returning in the future! - Rent In Highlands Vacation Rental Guest, LoganbrbrRent In Highlands Vacation Rental Cancellation PolicybrbrPolicy (A)  for reservations less than 20 days:brA reservation canceled between 0-45 days prior to arrival is not eligible to receive a refund. NOTICE: DO NOT BOOK THIS PROPERTY WITHOUT MESSAGING US AND PREAPPROVING YOUR PETbrbrThis Rent In Highlands vacation rental home is pet friendly for one small dog, under 20 pounds. Pets must be pre-approved. An additional non-refundable pet fee is required and is not included in the rental fee. Please call our office for approval and to pay the pet  fee. Failure to adhere to this policy will result in a $1000.00 fine.brbrOnly adults (25 years old and older) may reserve this property and an adult must occupy the property at all times.brbrThis home has an exterior camera overlooking the driveway for security purposes.brbrEnd of the Road. Top of the Ridge. Beginning of the Best Trip You've Taken in a While.brbrThere's something about a house at the end of a road, perched on a hill, with a creek running through the ravine below and practically zero traffic noise despite being five miles from Main Street Highlands — it just feels like it was put here on purpose. Like someone knew exactly what a vacation was supposed to feel like and built accordingly.brbrThis is that house.brbrThe Kind of Quiet You Actually Have to Seek Out Tucked behind a ridge off Highway 64, the property sits in a pocket of genuine stillness that's surprisingly hard to find this close to town. The summer temperatures rarely climb above 80 degrees. The creek below the screened porch runs year-round. The neighbors are far enough away that you'll forget they exist. And yet downtown Highlands is a five-minute drive, Cashiers is six miles in the other direction, and everything in between — waterfalls, hiking trails, rivers, lakes, golf courses, restaurants worth planning a trip around — is well within reach.brbrInside: Bright, Open, and Built for Staying In Soaring vaulted ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows flood the great room with natural light the moment you walk through the door — the kind of architectural move that makes a space feel twice as large and infinitely more inviting. A stacked stone wood-burning fireplace anchors one end of the room, a 55-inch smart TV and Sony sound system anchor the other, and a reading nook tucked under the stairs quietly makes the case for the most underrated seat in the house. The open kitchen and dining nook — table for six, fully equipped, no hunting for what you need — keeps everything connected without crowding anyone out. Two sliding doors lead to the front deck, so the inside and outside flow into each other the way they should.brbrThree Bedrooms, Every Base Covered The main level hosts two queen bedrooms — a primary suite with a private ensuite and a guest room with a full bath just across the hall. Head upstairs and the king primary suite waits with its own private ensuite and genuine separation from the rest of the house. The loft outside the upper bedroom adds a sleeper sofa for flexibility, plus a fully functional office with monitor and laser printer for anyone who can't completely unplug. Every bedroom has its own flat-screen smart TV loaded with cable, HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax — because sometimes the best mountain activity is a good movie marathon with the fireplace going.brbrTwo Outdoor Spaces, Two Completely Different Moods The screened porch on the side of the house looks out over a small ravine with a creek threading through the trees below it. Shaded, cool, and serenaded by moving water, it's the kind of place you sit down in and then realize an hour has passed. The front deck operates on different energy — open to the sky, outfitted with a Weber gas grill and dining table, and positioned to catch glimpses of the sunset through the trees, especially in the cooler months when the leaves step out of the way.brbrMorning coffee on the screened porch. Dinner off the grill on the front deck. Repeat until checkout.brbrThe Surrounding Area Five miles to Highlands. Six to Cashiers. In between: some of the best hiking in the Southeast, waterfalls you'll want to photograph, rivers worth floating, lakes worth fishing, and restaurants that consistently surprise people who thought they were just coming up here for the mountains. The mountains are reason enough. Everything else is a bonus.brbrPlease respect the neighbors privacy and do not use any adjoining driveways to turn around.brbrWhat our guests are saying…brbrGreat New Year! This property sits in a nice neighborhood directly between Cashiers and Highlands, as advertised. The community is quiet and you feel like you are in a tree house. There is a stream that runs through the community and it is so soothing. Very walkable throughout the community too. Inside was extremely clean and we personally love that the kitchen was well stocked. The vaulted wood ceiling made the place feel so open. 2 patios, one screened in and one not which was also another benefit. Lake Views, a Pool Table, and a Porch Swing. The Perfect Mountain Trip | Lakeview Hideaway

Highlands, North Carolina, United States

This Rent In Highlands vacation rental home has a strict NO PET policy. Failure to adhere to this policy will result in a $1000.00 fine.brbrOnly adults (25 years old and older) may reserve this property and an adult must occupy the property at all times.brbrThere's a moment when you settle into the porch swing at the front of this house, Lake Sequoyah shimmering just across the road, rocking chairs on either side, the kind of mountain quiet that makes your shoulders drop two inches — and you realize you picked exactly the right place.brbrPerched high on a knoll above the lake, recently renovated, and closer to downtown Highlands than it has any right to be given how peaceful it feels, this three-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath home hits every note. Stone fireplace. Garden tub. Pool table downstairs. French doors opening onto a deck with a gas grill. And that porch swing, waiting for whoever claims it first.brbrThe Main Level Gets Everything Right - A gorgeous stone gas fireplace anchors the living room and sets the tone for the whole house — warm, unhurried, and easy to be in. The light-filled dining room with French doors onto the deck keeps indoor and outdoor living connected in the way mountain homes do best, and the cozy kitchen with its breakfast nook and pass-through to the dining and living areas makes the whole main floor feel like one continuous, welcoming space. The main-level primary suite completes the picture with a spacious private bath and a garden tub that earns serious appreciation after a day on the trails. No stairs between you and anything you need — a detail that matters more than it sounds.brbrThe paved parking area out front includes an access ramp that makes loading, unloading, and accessibility genuinely easy — a thoughtful touch that larger groups and multigenerational families will quietly appreciate.brbrUpstairs, the Guest Rooms Deliver Two generous bedrooms on the upper level — one queen, one king — share a full hallway bath and provide comfortable, well-appointed space for the rest of the group. Simple, solid, exactly what guests need after a full day in the mountains.brbrDownstairs, Things Get Fun - The lower level is where the trip loosens up entirely. A family game room with a pool table and comfortable couches handles movie nights, rainy afternoons, and the kind of low-stakes tournaments that somehow become the most talked-about part of the vacation. It's the room that keeps everyone in one place without anyone trying.brbrOutside, the Lake Steals the Show The front porch — rocking chairs, porch swing, lake views — is the kind of outdoor space that turns a vacation into a ritual. People come back to this house because of that porch. Off the dining room, the open-air deck with its gas grill and bistro dining set handles the other end of the day: long al fresco dinners, good conversation, mountain air doing what mountain air does.brbrTwo porches. One lake. Zero reasons to be in a hurry.brbrDowntown Highlands is just minutes away — restaurants, shops, waterfalls, and trails all within easy reach. But Lake Sequoyah is right there across the road, and the porch swing has a way of making that feel like enough.brbrWhat our guests are saying…brbrFirst time Highlands getaway!  We had a great time in Highlands it was a perfect location. Magazine Worthy. Two Blocks From Main Street.| Sweetwood Cottage

Highlands, North Carolina, United States

This Rent In Highlands vacation rental home has a strict NO PET policy. Failure to adhere to this policy will result in a $1000.00 fine.brbrOnly adults (25 years old and older) may reserve this property and an adult must occupy the property at all times.brbrThe phrase French charm gets used loosely in vacation rental descriptions. Here it's earned — natural stone, honey-colored wood, whitewashed walls, a footed soaking tub in the primary suite, and a front porch swing aimed directly at Satulah Mountain. This cottage was built in 2011 but feels like it was designed by someone who spent considerable time in the French countryside and came back with very specific opinions about how a home should feel.brbrLight. Warm. Effortlessly put together and two blocks from downtown Highlands, which means Harris Lake is a short walk, Main Street is around the corner, and the porch swing sunset view over Satulah Mountain is available every single evening at no extra charge.brbrA Great Room That Does Two Things at Once - The soaring open-concept great room is the kind of space that appears in shelter magazines and then surprises you by actually functioning in real life. Two distinct seating areas — one gathered around the fireplace for reading and conversation, one oriented for movie nights — give a large group somewhere to spread out without feeling separated. The kitchen flows naturally into the space with ample counter room and large windows that pull the outdoors in, keeping whoever's cooking connected to everything happening around them.brbrThe elegant primary suite earns its description - a footed tub, a walk-in shower, and a spa-like finish that makes the morning routine feel like an event worth lingering over. Everything about this room was designed for the kind of slow, restorative rest that a real vacation requires.brbrUpstairs, the Math Works - Two upper-level bedrooms, each with two double beds, plus a loft with a trundle — flexible, functional, and genuinely comfortable for families or groups traveling with kids of varying ages. The layout gives the upstairs its own identity while staying connected to the warmth of the great room below.brbrThe Front Porch is the Highlight - Reel A porch swing. A gas firepit. Lounge seating on one side, a dining table on the other, and Satulah Mountain straight ahead. The front porch of this cottage is the kind of outdoor space that people describe when they tell friends about the trip — the specific detail that gets mentioned every time. Morning coffee. Afternoon swings. Sunset with a drink. Evening fire. It handles all of it, and it handles it beautifully.brbrAround back, a patio just off the kitchen with a grill and a charming iron bistro set for two offers a quieter, more private outdoor counterpoint — perfect for an early morning before the house wakes up or a late cookout dinner when the front porch has already done its work for the day.brbrTwo Blocks From Everything - Harris Lake's walking path is steps away — ducks, geese, water, and the particular calm that a lake path delivers before the day gets going. Main Street Highlands is two blocks in the other direction, with acclaimed restaurants, boutique shopping, the Highlands Playhouse, and the Old Edwards Inn and Spa all within easy walking distance. This cottage manages to sit at the center of everything Highlands offers while feeling like a private retreat the moment you step inside.brbrSatulah Mountain at sunset from a porch swing. That's the pitch. Everything else is a bonus.brbrWhat our guests are saying…brbrWhat a blessing! Nearly Six Private Acres. A Spring-Fed Trout Pond. Shortoff MountainViews | Shortoff Mountain View

Only locally owned and/or operated vacation rental brands are invited to be considered for this stamp of approval, which is issued by a trusted peer-to-peer collective of leading industry owners and managers.brbrThere's a moment — usually somewhere between spotting the trout pond and stepping onto the screened porch with its wood-burning fireplace and panoramic mountain views — when it becomes clear this is not a typical vacation rental. This is a property. Nearly six acres of it, private and wooded, with a creek threading through, Shortoff Mountain on the horizon, and a contemporary four-bedroom home at the center of it all that manages to feel both architecturally impressive and genuinely comfortable at the same time.brbrThe bunk house above the garage seals the deal for anyone traveling with kids. The steam shower in the primary suite seals it for everyone else.brbrA Home Designed Around the View - Floor-to-ceiling windows in the great room ensure that Shortoff Mountain is never more than a glance away, framed by a soaring fireplace that anchors the space with the kind of presence that makes the room feel complete even before anyone sits down. The open floor plan flows naturally from the great room into the dining area and out onto the screened porch — a continuous indoor-outdoor sequence that keeps the mountain in sight from the kitchen, from the table, and from the rocking chairs on the porch where most evenings will inevitably end up.brbrThe screened porch, for the record, earns its place as the soul of this property. Wood-burning fireplace. Classic rockers. A plush patio sofa. A bar-height dining table for casual meals with a view that stretches further than you expect. Cool mountain evenings were made for this porch, and this porch was made for them.brbrA second uncovered deck off the foyer — gas grill, comfortable seating, ready for whoever calls lunch duty — adds another outdoor dimension, and the main-level primary bedroom connects directly to the back deck and screened porch for mornings that begin outside before the rest of the house wakes up.brbrSleep: Everyone Gets Something Worth Having - The upper-level primary suite is quietly exceptional — wood-paneled ceilings overhead, a steam shower, a freestanding soaking tub, and heated floors that make the bathroom feel less like an amenity and more like a destination. A loft with additional seating sits just outside, and two more bedrooms with private bathrooms complete the upper level with comfort and privacy for additional guests.brbrThen there's the bunk house. Perched above the garage with its own full bath, two sets of bunk beds, a sectional sofa, and a wide-screen TV, it's the kind of space that kids claim immediately and refuse to leave — which, from a group-travel perspective, is exactly what it's supposed to do. The adults get the steam shower. The kids get the bunk house. Everyone wins.brbrThe Acres Are the Amenity - Nearly six private acres means the property itself is worth exploring before you ever leave for a trail. Follow the creek. Find the spring-fed trout pond tucked into the landscape — a genuine surprise that rewards whoever wanders far enough to discover it. The mountain air here is the kind that makes you understand why people build retreats in these hills and then spend the rest of their lives finding excuses to come back.brbrDowntown Highlands is close enough to make every meal, hike, waterfall, and shop easily accessible. Far enough away that none of it intrudes unless you want it to.brbrCome for a long weekend. Start negotiating a return trip before you leave.brbrWhat our guests are saying…brbrPerfect weekend getaway! This house had everything we needed for a great weekend get away. The house was very clean, communication was great, and the house was plenty big enough to host my large group.
