You will feel like you are in a treehouse while staying at this lakefront cabin located on Lake Hiwassee nestled in the Smoky Mountains. Lake Hiwassee is one of the deepest TVA lakes that sports over 160 miles of forest shoreline bordered by the Nantahala Forest and so over 90% of the shoreline is undeveloped. The result is that there are few homes on the lake, and very little boat traffic as it is off of the beaten path and mostly surrounded by state and national forests. This is a huge lake located in the Smoky Mountains, and offers the best of both worlds -a pristine lake set in a magnificent mountain range. brbrThis SMOKE-FREE AND PET FREE cabin has four bedrooms, three tiled bathrooms and a loft. Cabin doesn't do it justice as guests are surprised by the comfortable furnishings. There is over 2400 square feet of living space and another 800 square feet ocomprised of screened porches and decks. Two of the bedrooms are located on the main level. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, and the private bathroom has a jet tub as well as a shower. The second bedroom on the main level has a queen-size bed, and the second bathroom is located next to it. Both of these bedrooms have a private deck.brbrThere is a fully equipped kitchen with stainless appliances, custom cabinetry and Silestone countertops. There is a bar area off of the kitchen with bar chairs, and the main dining area is located on the screened porch off of the living room on the main level. We have bamboo trays (sitting on top of of chair on the landing leading to the loft) for when it is cold outside, or if you and your guests want to eat on trays and watch tv. brbrThere are hardwood floors throughout the main level with a bar area and stools located off of the entrance area. The entrance hall has stairs leading to the loft which has a full sized sofa and is a perfect nook for children who want to slip away. Also located on the main level is the great room with a vaulted ceiling, a wood burning fireplace, plenty of comfortable furniture and large French sliding doors that lead to the screened porch which is the perfect place to enjoy your first cup of coffee. In addition to the seating area, there is a long wooden table with benches to provide plenty of room for your family and friends.brbrThe downstairs is carpeted and has a large den with two couches (one two-seater and a full-sized sofa), two bedrooms, a bathroom and laundry room. There is also a built-in desk for a private work area if you are planning on taking a “Workcation”. One of the bedrooms has a queen-size bed, and the other has two sturdy wooden oversized bunk beds. The bottom of each bunk has a full-sized mattress and the top is a twin. Off of the downstairs is another huge screened porch that has a hammock and a ping pong table. We like to sit upstairs on the screened porch off of the main floor and listen to the teenagers as they are playing ping pong or talking on the dock. It is amazing what you can learn!brbrJust off of the downstairs screened porch is the fire pit and grilling area that has a propane grill complete with Adirondack rocking chairs for your comfort. It's just a short walk down the steps to the dock which has an amazing view of the lake and mountains. The dock is the perfect spot to rest, read or just relax and enjoy the view.brbrOur lake house is located in Bear Paw which is a private gated community, and the only residential community on the lake, which offers many amenities including a full service marina, large swimming pool, tennis, volleyball and pickle ball courts, a covered pavilion, basketball court, fishing pond and a children's playground. Please note the swimming pool normally opens Memorial Day then is closed after Labor Day weekend. Currently the pool is closed for repairs, and hopefully it will reopen for summer of 2026. Mountain View Marina is located inside of Bear Paw and has a boat ramp if you want to bring your own boat. The marina will rent boats, kayaks or paddle boards by the hour or day and is a short drive from the cabin and even a shorter ride by boat. They are extremely friendly and have pontoons for rent which are simple to operate for the boating novice. Since this is a TVA lake, during the winter months, the lake level is usually dropped an average of 38 feet. Lake Hiawasee is one of the deepest lakes in the TVA system and is 308 feet deep at the dam at full pool and navigable year round. The cove behind our cabin is about 25 feet deep at full pool, and there is a dock behind the cabin where you can park your boat. Since the TVA lowers the water level during the winter months, you will not be able to dock a boat behind our cabin from about November thrul March. However, the marina has short term slip rentals available so you would be able to rent a slip for your boat and enjoy the lake during the winter season as the marina is located on a deeper part of the lake and has water year round. brbrWe do offer free WiFi, and have a landline that you are welcome to use to make outgoing calls. As for cell reception, it depends on your carrier, and it seems that Verizon works best in the area.brbrThis is the perfect vacation as it offers the perfect get-a-away for everyone whether you like the mountains or the water. We are only a 45 minutes drive to Blue Ridge and are located in Cherokee County, NC where the casino is located. There is transportation (see Town Car Services) to the casino. World class whitewater rafting is nearby on the Ocoee River or on the Nantahala if you want a calmer journey or just want to enjoy tubing down the river. Secluded 48 acres in Murphy (about 16 minutes to downtown). Near: John C. Campbell Folk School (about 12 minutes away); Nantahala River (about 35 minutes away). Roam the property and swim in the spring-fed pond. If you are a camper or want to try camping, then you will love glamping (glamorous camping) at the chapel! A wood-fired sauna experience is available for an additional charge. (Read more about that below.) brbrMy vision is that my property (which I've named Kingdom Come) would be a place of rest, retreat, and enjoyment for others. I am going to build a few cabins for lodging, but my first major project was building a chapel, so that it would be the centerpiece and heartbeat: a place for reflection, meditation, and prayer. brbrI built the chapel myself (with my own hands, and the hands of a couple of friends). As I work on building the cabins, I have decided to use the chapel as a glamping site (better than using it as a divine storage building!).brbrMy mother was an artist and when she died I ended up with a lot of her artwork. Some of her paintings now fill the chapel. They also fill the space, I hope, with her grace and love and creativity.brbrThe chapel features beautiful timber frame construction. As to glamping . . . there is no running water/plumbing, but you'll have all the fresh water you need for showers, drinking, etc. Limited electricity for running the kitchen appliances. brbrNo AC, of course, but the fan will keep it comfortable in warm weather. As to cold weather, the chapel has an electric heater that keeps it fairly comfortable in cold weather: not blazing hot, but comfortable; if it gets VERY cold, then the heater just takes the chill off.brbrZinus Ultima Comfort Memory Foam 6 Inch mattresses are very comfortable! Using the outdoor solar/camp shower is wonderful. The privy is clean and well-ventilated. brbrAppliances: fan; toaster oven; microwave oven; coffee maker; and, small micro-fridge. brbrLighting is provided by four rechargeable lanterns. Screens on the windows to keep the bugs at bay. brbrOutdoor deck with comfortable Adirondack chairs, fire pit, and Weber charcoal grill. There are generous firewood bundles available for you to purchase at the chapel, if you wish. Bring charcoal if you want to use the grill.brbrThe play area offers opportunities limited only by your imagination. We named our cabin to reflect both our heritage & the cozy cabin vibes for which the folks in Norway are known. Ideally situated in the southwestern corner of the state, to our south we are a stones throw from the areas of Blairsville & Blue Ridge, Georgia. To the west we are a short drive to Tennessee & the Cherokee National Forrest. Your activities itinerary can be as full as you can handle!brbrWe know that you want your trip to the mountains to be all about outdoor living, and we’ve got just the porch you’ve been searching for. Rock the day away on the front porch, relax on the side porch in the swing with a book, grill up dinner and eat inside or out, and then finish off the night around the campfire in our locally made Adirondack chairs or a soak in the hot tub. Our cabin is secluded without being isolated. You will lose cell coverage but our high speed internet will keep you connected! We have a lovely view of our community pond (where you can watch the deer come by for a drink as the sun sets), and a whole acre for the kids to run around. We even have a hiking trail that begins just at the end of our drive.brbrCouples and friends are welcome, of course! But, we are set up for the needs of families like ours, just in case. After years of traveling to the mountains with kids we know what families need! Our primary suite is just right, with a Casper mattress in a proper queen size bed and your own en suite bath. The kids have run of the bunk room with two bunks (four twin beds!) that we’ve decorated to make them feel adventurous and a hall bath they can share. We’ve even brought a pack n play in case you’ve got a really little one. The deck has gates at both ends so that your kids or your pups can have the run of the deck without being able to run off entirely. We have our own porch dawg, and are happy to welcome yours without charging a pet fee.brbrThe kitchen is fully stocked, and not from 32 different yard sales! Cook, bake, or heat up leftovers from the pizzeria down the road (it’s pretty legit!) The road to the hytte is nicely paved, no gravel until you get to the driveway and no crazy hills to slide down while you try and find us in the dark.
