Besides visiting the Park there are plenty of lovely places to visit outside of the Park for hiking, boating fishing and swimming. Check out the Lookouts in Flathead National Forest or access the North Fork River from outside the park for fishing, floating or picnics by the river. brbrGlacier National Park announced Wednesday that it is ending its ticketed-entry system, which has dictated summer access to some of the park’s most popular areas for the past five years. Instead, it will introduce new parking limits at Logan Pass and a reservation system for shuttle buses along the Going-to-the-Sun Road. brbrLate last year, Superintendent Dave Roemer said the park was likely to discontinue the ticketed-entry system for the west side of Going-to-the-Sun Road, which has long been one of Glacier’s most congested areas. However, since then, National Park Service officials have remained silent about their exact plans, saying they were still assessing options. In previous years, Glacier typically announced its plans for the following year in November or December.brbrIn a press release Wednesday, Roemer said he hoped the new system would enable more people to visit Logan Pass, the Continental Divide and the summit of the Sun Road by implementing a three-hour parking limit there. Park officials stated that this would give visitors enough time to see the Visitor’s Center, participate in an interpretive program, or even take the short hike to the Hidden Lake Overlook. brbrThose planning longer hikes from Logan Pass, such as the iconic Highline Trail to the Granite Park Chalet, would need to use one of the express shuttles from either the east or west side of the park. brbr“With the new trial measures, we aim to improve the public’s ability to visit Logan Pass for short durations and allow the shuttle system to perform more reliably for a more specific purpose,” Roemer said in the release. “This initiative reflects our continued learning and listening as we refine park transportation and access to better serve the public and safeguard the integrity of the park’s resources.”brbrParking limits at Logan Pass were expected to begin on July 1, typically around the time the entire Going-to-the-Sun Road opens. Meanwhile, the new express shuttle system will provide direct service from the Apgar Visitor Center and Lake McDonald Lodge on the west side to Logan Pass. Unlike previous years, it will not stop at the Avalanche Lake or Trail of the Cedars trailheads. The shuttle will make afternoon stops at the Loop, a popular endpoint for hikers from Logan Pass. On the east side, the shuttles will depart from the St. Mary Visitor Center and Rising Sun. brbrShuttle reservations will cost $1 per person and are required for anyone 2 years and older. Tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis through the Recreation website. A portion of tickets will be made available 60 days in advance, beginning at 8 a.m. on May 2. The remaining tickets will be released at 7 p.m. for next-day entry starting June 30. brVisitors are encouraged to check the park website frequently for updates and additional information.brThere are no services north of Columbia Falls, get your supplies and ice there before you head up.brWe have have maps and guide books and information on our favourite hikes. [November 7, 2024] – Glacier National Park will once again implement a pilot vehicle reservation system in 2025, from June 13 to September 28, 2025, for the west side of Going-to-the-Sun Road and the North Fork. Visitors can begin making advance reservations on February 12, 2025. Reservations will be required from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. As in previous years, visitors may enter reservation areas without a reservation before or after reservation hours.brNew in 2025, the park will be piloting timed entry reservations for the west side of Going-to-the-Sun Road and the North Fork. Visitors will enter the park according to the time block they have reserved and can remain in the park for as long as they like on the day of their reservation. Visitors who miss their reserved time block can enter after 3 p.m. Multiple time blocks will be available between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Additional information regarding time blocks will be announced in a separate press release.br“In 2025 we are continuing successful measures from the 2024 season, including access to Apgar Village, Two Medicine, and the East Entrance to Going-to-the-Sun Road outside of the vehicle reservation system. Within that successful framework we are going to try timed entry to see if we can minimize congestion, optimize visitor arrival, and improve visitor experiences,” said Glacier National Park Superintendent Dave Roemer. “Timed entry has proven to be a valuable tool in other popular national parks and should reduce congestion and wait times at the West Entrance to Going-to-the-Sun Road.”brWest EntrancebrOne timed entry reservation per vehicle will be required to travel Going-to-the-Sun Road beyond the Apgar Village area from June 13 through September 28, 2025, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors can enter before 7 a.m. or after 3 p.m. without a vehicle reservation. Like previous years, visitors with lodging, camping, transportation, or commercial activity reservations can access their intended service within the Going-to-the-Sun Road reservation area with proof of their reservation. Only commercial reservations that originate beyond the Apgar vehicle reservation checkpoint and west of Logan Pass will provide entry in place of a vehicle reservation.brbrAs a reminder, lodging, camping (including Fish Creek and Apgar campgrounds), and commercial activity reservations originating in Apgar will not provide access beyond the Apgar vehicle reservation check point.brNorth ForkbrOne timed entry reservation per vehicle will be required at the Polebridge entrance station June 13 through September 28, 2025, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors can enter before 7 a.m. or after 3 p.m. without a vehicle reservation. A reservation is not required to access the community of Polebridge which is located outside the park entrance.brTwo Medicine Valley and St. MarybrAs in 2024, vehicle reservations will not be required to enter Two Medicine Valley or the St. Mary entrance to Going-to-the-Sun Road in 2025. Entry may be temporarily restricted at certain times of day (typically between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.) when areas become too congested. Visitors with service reservations (e.g., boat tours, lodging, horseback ride, guided hikes) in these areas will be permitted entry during temporary restrictions.brMany Glacier ValleybrAs the park has previously announced, the Swiftcurrent area of Many Glacier Valley will be closed to public access during the summer of 2025 due to ongoing construction. The closure will greatly reduce the amount of available parking in Many Glacier Valley. The park is currently researching access alternatives for the valley in 2025. More information about 2025 visitor access options will be announced in a separate news release.brVehicle reservations and entrance passesbrVehicle reservations will only be available on Recreation.gov, the Recreation.gov mobile app, or through the Recreation.gov Call Center (Reservation Line: 877-444-6777).
