In the warmer months, open the windows to invite the sounds of nature and indulge in birdwatching or immerse yourself in one of the specially curated books provided.brbrAs an off-grid property, The Hideout utilizes an electricity generator, focusing on minimizing its carbon footprint. If you want to leave your pet in the cabin while you're out exploring, you may do so if they are in a crate. brbrVERY IMPORTANT TO READ BEFORE YOU BOOK:brbrWe will leave you very clear directions on operating the cabin. We also send multiple videos before checking in to watch before arrival.brbrThe cabin is located 2 miles off a paved road. Our road is maintained and plowed by local residents. During the winter months, it will sometimes be snow-packed, icy, slick, or unplowed. During warm months the dirt and sand road could be rocky, soupy, hard-packed, or all of these simultaneously. There may be small water crossings, and there could be loose sand or mud. All types of cars can make it to the cabin, but before booking, please consider whether you are concerned about the abilities of your car or your driving abilities on varying terrain. We can provide up-to-date road conditions before your trip if you have any concerns. brbrThe cabin is off-grid, and the generator uses gasoline to make electricity for the water pump. There will be enough fuel to provide you with a reasonable amount of electricity to use during your stay (about 5 hours per day). The generator is only needed to power the water pump (showers/dishes/toilet). The lights, refrigerator, stove, and water heater are all powered by propane. Bring along lanterns, headlights, or flashlights to help you navigate at night. Lighters are also a good item to have in your pocket for lighting the lights. If you need to have any device that runs off electricity through the night or for long periods of time, you’ll need to bring a battery-powered solution or reach out to discuss your situation before booking.br brThe water comes from a drilled well and goes through a water softener system. The system has a pressure tank that is filled, so when the generator is not on, you will still have water to wash your hands, do a few dishes, and flush the potty a couple of times. You'll want to turn the generator on before jumping in the shower. brbrWe do not have wifi. You’ll be able to unplug here, truly. Cell service is generally not available in the area. You will be able to call any number that is in the 906 area code from the landline, and you will be able to receive calls from anywhere. brbrAll well-behaved dogs are welcome! Please help us stay dog friendly by cleaning up after your pet around the cabin. brbrDogs may be off-leash if you can maintain control over your dog. This is a remote wilderness area with wild animals, and the safety of your dog and our wildlife friends is important.brbrDogs may not be left inside unattended and are not allowed on the furniture. If you want to leave your pet in the cabin while you're out exploring, you may do so if they are in a crate. brbrThe wood stove is only used by people who know how wood stoves work. No liquid flammables or trash are ever to be used in a wood stove. We provide plenty of wood for your stay. Summer is typically way too hot for a wood-burning fire inside.brbrCampfires are permitted as long as they are properly monitored and extinguished. Clean up your trash around the fire pit before you leave. Do NOT use cabin firewood for a campfire. brbrThis cabin does have one nearby neighbor. Out of respect for them, please limit outdoor noise after 10 pm. No loud music is to be played outside. brbrPlease clean all kitchen items that you use and return them to their place. brbrNo smoking is allowed inside the cabin. A $500 smoke clean-up fee will be charged. brbrAt the end of your stay, please put all linens and towels in the laundry bin and return all items to their original locations. brbrThere have been sightings of coyotes, cougars, bears, turkeys, eagles, hawks, deer, horses, turtles, raccoons, squirrels, mice, and bugs of all types here...please plan accordingly and do not leave food out, or they will come to visit you.brbrPlease only flush toilet paper and natural waste down the toilet. The system is not made to handle feminine products or trash of any type, not even flushable wipes. All food and coffee grounds should be put in the trash, and no food or grease should be put down the drains. brbrThe owners are not responsible for any accidents, injuries, or illness that occurs while on the premises or its facilities. We are not responsible for the loss of personal belongings or valuables of the guest. By accepting this reservation, it is agreed that all guests are expressly assuming the risk of any harm arising from their use of the premises or others they invite to use it.

Private Peaceful Retreat on Stella Lake

Wetmore, Michigan, United States

Escape to tranquility at this modern lake house nestled on 1.5 acres in Hiawatha National Forest right on Stella Lake, where fishing and lake activities await just outside. Embrace wellness with an infrared sauna, workout room, and allergen-friendly, non-toxic space. Enjoy the view of the serene lake from the living room and private yard and feel like you have the whole lake to yourself. Stay connected with Wi-Fi. Whether embracing the outdoors or seeking indoor comfort, this retreat has it allbrThe spacebrThere are 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with a full sized bed. There is a third room that has fitness equipment, including an Assault Fitness manual treadmill, weights, a fitness box and a yoga mat. The lower level has an open concept living room, kitchen, dining room and sunroom overlooking the lake with a sauna. A sliding glass door leads out to a spacious deck. The deck stairs lead to a grassy area where native wildflowers grow and the lake shore is a few yards away. There is a small private beach area that you can wade into the water. The lake is shallow and sandy for about 50 feet beyond the shore. If northern lights are visible, this is a great viewing location because there's a clear view of the northern sky over the lake and there's no light pollution.brbrThis house is about as remote as you can get in the UP while still being able to stay connected with high speed fiber optic internet. Guests can use the internet and work from home by connecting to the wifi and make calls and texts by enabling wifi calling on their phones. The space revolves around the view of lake to help guests disconnect and reconnect with nature so there is no TV but you can stream via Wi-Fi on your own device.brbrThe property is very private because the lake is on the back side and Hiawatha National Forest borders another side. This is the only winter-occupied house on this section of the lake, so you will feel like you have the whole lake to yourself. In the summer, trees block the view of the neighboring house. Neighbors are very quiet so we hope guests will keep the peace as well. Across the water is another section of Hiawatha National Forest, which provides a nice view of nature and a small island.brbrPlease note that there are some minor unfinished trim details in the living room, bathroom and utility room. It shouldn't affect the quality of your stay, but I wanted to make guests aware in case aesthetics are important to you.brGuest accessbrGuests will be able to access the full house, minus one small armoire closet and shelving unit in the utility room where I keep personal items because I use the house when it's not being rented. Garage access is not available. Guests are able to access Stella Lake and Hiawatha National Forest from the property.brOther things to notebr4 wheel drive is required October 1 - May 31. This house is off the beaten path. The road will be plowed year round, but it can be rough with potholes, depending on weather conditions.brbrThe house is in a very remote location and GPS gives incorrect directions. Before you arrive, please see the written directions in the directions section.brbrThere is no cell phone service in the area, but you will be able to use your phone like normal by connecting to the wifi and enabling wifi calling.brbrTo offer a wellness-focused experience, this house has a fitness room with a treadmill, weights and yoga mat, a sauna, stainless steel pots, pans and cooking utensils, glass cookware, spices, olive oil, coffee and tea.brbrI have taken extra care to provide a hypoallergenic space by not allowing pets, using fragrance-free cleaning products, keeping the house pesticide free and providing a dehumidifier and humidifier. I can't guarantee that your specific allergies will be accommodated, but I have gone above what is typical of a VRBO hosts to improve indoor air quality.brbrTo reduce interruptions during your stay, snow removal will only happen after an accumulation of 4 inches. A shovel is provided if you want to remove snow on walkways. For accumulations over 4 inches, snow removal will happen without advance notice. Snow removal may happen at night time during heavy snowfalls to reduce the chance of you getting snowed in.
