As Sept 23 renter says Glory Be is glorious indeed. We took full advantage of it. Swimming, kayaking, and hiking every day. Right from the house. Location is prime. This spot is 8 miles down a 9 mile road, nestled on the bank of Union River Bay which overlooks the mountains of Acadia National Park. Newbury Neck is the primo spot for biking, and serenity. Lots are huge and owned by just a few families. There is little traffic since the peninsula dead ends in 1.25 miles. New beach steps attached to a boardwalk, built spring 2025. Given the deep water frontage you may have your friends visit, anchor in the bay, sail in and sail out. Open ocean is just to the south. Glory Be is an authentic contemporary style house built in the 1980's with a 1200 sq ft wrap around deck, a long private drive flanked by blueberry fields and protected by nature conservancy land, with woods to the north and panoramic ocean views to the east. We have high speed WIFI but do not offer TV. We have loads of books. Across Union River Bay are the mountains of Acadia, one of America's most visited US National Parks - an easy 50-60 minute drive to parts of the park and Bar Harbor, and other scenic sites of Mount Desert Island. Also discover the nearby Blue Hill Peninsula, Deer Isle, Stonington. A short drive from Bar Harbor and a 5 minute walk to the sea, our cottage lets you enjoy the Maine countryside as well as the scenic shoreline. Relax on the deck, swim, antique, hike, and take in the charm of coastal Maine from our cozy home. brOur delightful, spacious, four-season cottage comfortably sleeps up to five people; there are two bedrooms, one on each floor of the house, both with queen-size beds. All bed linens are provided. There is also a separate loft area with a twin bed. Both bedrooms have closets and ample room for storage. The ground floor of our home features an open-concept dining area, living area, and kitchen, with french doors that let in lots of light. These open up to a large deck where guests can dine, grill, and relax. The kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, coffeemaker, refrigerator and microwave. There are three full bathrooms, one on the first floor, one on the second floor, and one in the basement. The basement and second floor bath have showers, and the first floor features a large, convenient bathtub. Towels, hairdryer, shampoo and soap provided. Free Wifi is available. br brThe cottage is located on an acre of private land and is situated between a lush forest and an open meadow. We have a large and grassy front yard and back yard, as well as a deck and a patio area (with a grill) for enjoying the outdoors. brbrOur cottage is just a quick walk to the shore and the forest, and a short drive to many local sites and activities. We recommend having a car at your disposal. brI or my associate will meet you upon arrival to welcome you, show you the cottage, and give a short orientation to the area. At times, as I live quite a distance from Surry, I will be unable to greet guests personally. In these instances, one of my dear friends and associates (a neighbor and long-time resident of Surry) will meet you and introduce you to our cottage. We are all happy to provide information about Surry, the surrounding towns, and other area attractions.
