We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the Studio. The owners are considerate and helpful, available but never intrusive. Pros: The beach! We watched a pair of bald eagles fishing in the waters right off the beach- twice. What a treat! The quiet here makes for a great night’s sleep. The bed was comfy, and the bedroom glows beautifully at sunrise. The studio is stunning and immaculate. Artsy. Dee has a great eye for decor and detail. She was generous in allowing us to use the freezer in the very near Cabin (also for rent) to store some of our food, as it was unrented at the time. It is in a great location for accessing the best of the Penninsula. Cons: We loved that there were cooking facilities, but think “warm up soup” or a quick batch of muffins. The fridge is teeny, and sadly not working properly while we were there. Our lettuce froze, but the little freezer has a warm zone that ruined a pint of ice cream and some meat. A star was lost over the fact that the largest (main) room has no comfortable space to hang out. The entire thing has cooking necessities in nice cupboards in every corner, but the space is not utilized well so it becomes a poorly designed, awkward kitchen, rather than living space that happens to have a little kitchenette. The tiny round dining table and tray size rack between stove and sink are the only work surfaces, but they are frustrating to use since they are small & not really for food prep. There is no couch nor comfy chairs to relax inside in case of rain or cool temps. The bedroom offers a chaise for one. The other person has to sit in bed, which is tough for reading or chatting since there is no headboard. To lean back, you would lean into the windows. The two basket style, swivel dining chairs in the main room are comfortable for a brief sit, but not for settling in after a day of exploring. There was a strong smell of mold in the bathroom. We were there mid October, and noticed there is no ventilation in the bath or kitchen. Condensation on the inside of exterior doors and windows dripped to the floor even with some opened windows, so sill rot is a likely outcome. Also, be aware the adjacent cabin is very close. Shrubs between, but not enough for privacy. If you are a quiet person, you might be driven mad by children or lots of people in such close proximity. Also, the water view from the studio is minimal, and thru trees. Most of these are easy fixes, though. Overall, this place is charming, & CLEAN.

First of all our host, Dee was fabulous. She let me know we could check in early and that we could use the cottage deck with great views of the water and Cadillac Mountain in AcadiaNational Park!! The studio was adorable and furnished with an artistic flair. The heat is radiant so you could walk on the floors barefoot and feel the warmth. Everything was clean and tidy!! It was super peaceful and not hard to get into your zen place. Thanks Dee!

We had a terrific week at this great property in Downeast Maine. The studio was very comfortable and well equipped. Many nice touches. We truly felt like we were staying in someone's home rather than just a vacation property. Dee was easy to deal with and we definitely plan to return in future years. Perfect location to see the surrounding sights and to top it off, there is a lobster shack just three miles away. Heaven on earth!

Perfect spot for a get away; comfortable, well kept, Dee was welcoming, great suggestions on eating places and touring. Enjoyed most sitting on back deck, listening to the waves, and strolling the beach area. A special thin place.Would love to return.

The Studio by the Sea is an amazing, cozy retreat, right by the waters edge. While it may technically be a studio, it was plenty spacious for us and meticulously appointed with everything we needed. Dee, the owner was a lovely and gracious host with lots of great suggestions for things to do. Hopefully you get to meet her dog Conrad too. We loved sitting out on the deck, sipping coffee or drinks, reading and relaxing with the nice ocean breeze keeping us cool and comfortable during what was a hot week. The ocean temps were perfect for swimming which we did nearly every day. You must have a fire on the beach and roast some marshmallows - delightful! We loved the lobster rolls at Perry's just down the road, the hike up Blue Hill Mountain, the shops and restaurants in Blue Hill, the beaches in East Blue Hill, and even ventured up to Winter and Prospect Harbor as well - so quaint. Be sure to check out Lee Glass in Gouldsboro and U.S. Bells in Prospect Harbor. Also, we rented kayaks for the week from the Activity Shop and paddled out in the bay (they deliver them right to your doorstep!). If you're into the craft brews (who isn't these days), head on over to Strong Brewing in Sedgwick - just a short drive from the cabin. We chose to avoid MDI and Bar Harbor to avoid the summer crowds but would absolutely stay here in the future for a fall visit to Acadia given the proximity. It was the perfect getaway for us and we left feeling relaxed and recharged. You won't regret renting this place. It's lovely!

Hagen and I spent Jul 28- Aug 4 in this beautiful studio cottage. Dee met and warmly welcomed us. We settled in immediately & went right down the beach which was glorious. We were blessed to have perfect weather throughout. Our cottage was well appointed, very tidy- with everything we needed. Perfect for a couple. We were able to easily prepare breakfast and coffee in the morning and have a good size studio fridge for our snacks and beverages. While we spent the majority of our time down on the rocky beach reading and walking, we did take daily trips to Blue Hill, Ellsworth, Schoodic Pt & Acadia. Dee gave us terrific recommendations for local eateries and attractions. While we live in southern Maine, it was nice to have a local’s perspective on best places to go Downeast. We highly recommend Thurston Co. in Blue Hill and Provendors in Ellsworth for a great dinners. Day trip to Schoodic Point/ Winter Harbor is a must. Lunch at the Gallery and Wharf in Corea ME was amazing. See our reviews on trip advisor. This visit was the highlight of our vacation experience these last several years, most definitely for 2018. Dee and Jon were lovely hosts, with a beautiful home, and the even shared their adorable dog Conrad with us!

Lovely, private spot. Nice for hikes down the road, along the shore, and dark, quiet evenings.

The studio is a charming 1 bedroom that provides all the comforts of home (shampoo, conditioner, soap, towels, fans, etc. provided) and is well decorated. Walking down the stairs to the private beach was my favorite part of staying here...the view of Acadia in the distance was beautiful. The owner (Dee) is incredibly nice and helpful. If you ever had a problem she would be very quick to help.

My wife and I spent the second week of June at the Studio by the Sea near Surry and we loved it. Dee has it set up to maximize the space and there are so many touches that we loved: artwork on the walls, hand-painted furniture, plenty of lamps for reading, a well-equipped kitchen, heated floors which make mornings so comfortable. Then there's a deck with chairs, a chaise Longue and umbrellas, flowers both inside and outside, a path that takes you down to the shore in a minute or less, where there are countless shells to admire and beautiful views of the mountains on Mount Desert Island. The town of Blue Hill is only a short drive away, with several restaurants and shops, and if you don't want to drive that far there is Perry's lobster shack just down the shore from the studio a short way. It was hard for us to get going some days because it was so nice sitting on the deck with coffee in the morning or a cold beer/wine later in the day, perfect for reading or taking short hikes near our place. And Dee was a great host, making sure everything was okay and filling us in on things to do and see ( there are some very interesting art galleries in Blue Hill). When we wanted to check emails we headed in to Blue Hill two or three times to a cafe or the library, and at the end of the day it was always a great to get back to the Studio by the Sea, our Maine home for a very pleasant and relaxing week. Thank you Dee for a great time! Jeff and Charlotte Disch

When my wife and I booked this property we had no idea how fantastic it would be. The studio itself was pristine. Super clean. All the Linens and towels looked brand new. The bed was super comfortable. And it was nice to have the option of a stove if we wanted it. The grill outside on the back deck was nice. We used it a couple of times. The view in the morning from the bed with the sun coming through... On the days we did have sun... It was a great way to wake up. And falling asleep to the sound of the wind through the trees and the waves crashing on the beach below us it was more relaxing than I could imagine. Our host Dee was fantastic! She gave us all the inside tips of where to eat and where to go especially for great hiking. It was the first vacation for my wife and I. And it was the first vacation that either of us did not want to come home. It was a bit of a drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park but we knew that. That was part of the reason I picked the studio because of the seclusion. There's no TV and no distractions from the outside world. And not until you're there do you realize how much you do not miss it. As opposed to staring at a TV screen or a computer screen we could sit out back on two Adirondack chairs and just stare at the Atlantic Ocean while drinking a nice ice cold beverage. While this trip was great in June I Can Only Imagine the Fantastic scenery come the fall once those trees start to change. Maybe that will be our next trip! I highly recommend this studio for a vacation rental. And my wife and I cannot wait to go back! Thanks Dee!!
