If you take a long hot shower, you may run out of hot water and need to wait for it to heat back up (~1 hr) so plan accordingly to space out showers if you have multiple people showering and conserve hot water (ex: wait to wash dishes until after showering).brbr- *** BURN RESTRICTIONS*** Please note that from February 15 - April 30th, the Virginia Department of Forestry restricts burning until after 4pm, which includes open-air fire (no use of the fire pit and charcoal grill during restricted times). Burning is allowed between 4:00pm and midnight so long as the burner takes precautions and attends to the fire at all times. brbr- The creek is usually shallow unless we have a lot of rain and is best enjoyed from the decks or in the meadow/at the fire pit. Enter at your own risk and use caution as the banks can be steep.brbr- The cabin has no central air conditioning or heating. There is a window AC unit installed in warmer months. It is warmed with a propane heater in cooler months and an electric heater in the bedroom. The space is only about ~400 sq feet but may be chilly or warm upon arrival depending on the weather. Turn on the heaters or AC in the bedroom to quickly warm or cool the space.brbr- The driveway is gravel and runs along the hillside to get to the cabin. If you're used to rural roads you may think nothing of it, but if it's your first time on the driveway, you may want to arrive in daylight to acclimate. It's not very long but it does slope at an incline to get down to the cabin from the main road. There is only parking for one vehicle and the parking space is just slightly larger than your average parking lot spot.

If you would happen to get your vehicle stuck in the snow or ice the guest are responsible for paying a towing company to pull them out. We will gladly give you recommendations on who to use.brbrOur mountain properties are nestled in the woods, which means you're truly immersed in nature, it s part of the charm! That said, while we take every measure to keep our properties clean and comfortable, you may occasionally see a bug or critter during your stay along with other wild life including bears and deer. This is completely normal for a forested environment and part of the rustic experience. We recommend keeping doors closed and food sealed to help minimize visits from curious insects. If you're especially sensitive to nature's little visitors, feel free to pack some bug spray for added peace of mind!brbrWe are confident that you are going to love this rental and the location. The Firefly sits amongst the trees, just a few ft from the noisy creek bank. A nice rock path takes you into the crystal clear water that is stocked September- May. This safari tent has lots of solar lighting, power, a refrigerator, composting toilet that is odorless and clean, and an outdoor hot and cold water shower. Enjoy the outdoor soaking tub by the creek, a charcoal grill, drip coffee maker, and plenty of stacked firewood by the firepit. There is a hard surface road to the property and then a gravel drive. Only three miles to Hillsville for shopping and dining. We allow pets but please clean up their waste. Sit by the creek and let the sound put you to sleep, hike nearby trails, visit The New River Trail for mountain biking and hiking, flea markets, ziplining at Buffalo mountain ziplining, visit local breweries and wineries, and six miles from I-77 and The Blue Ridge Parkway. The winter months are heated with a propane wall heater and a pellet stove. These keep it toasty warm in single digit weather but be aware that if it’s below freezing, the water lines do freeze under the tent, so you may not have running water at times. There is the conventional bathhouse at the top of the hill but it freezes as well in single digit weather.
