The Johnston family erected the house to showcase their accomplishments because they were highly renowned in thier native Virginia. The owners of this lovely property for the longest period of time were A.Z. Litz and his wife Etta V. Stauber. May lived in the mansion with first wife Matilda May, who sadly passed away. Jack remarried Nelle Bly and had a son Colonel May. Nelle remained in the home and turned it into a school for a couple of years before it was sold to the longest owners on record, A.Z. Litz and wife Etta V.
