Simpler times beckon you from the gracious front porch. Easily enter the home with the key-free system and start exploring the seven acres that you'll call home for the duration of your stay.brbrLet’s take a look around:brbr★★ Foyer ★★ brUpon entering the home off the front porch, you will be greeted by a cozy and inviting foyer area. Take a moment to rest and relax after your journey or kick off your shoes while exploring the rest of the house. brbr★★ Living Room ★★brThe comfy living room is perfect for gathering with your group of up to seven. Post up and make plans for the day, or practice Chopsticks on the antique piano. Set up the mobile projector and stream a movie off your own device, or get cozy on the sofa with a book or game from the library.brbr★★ The Spacious Kitchen / Dining Area ★★ brEnjoy the shared experience of cooking and dining with friends in the sunny kitchen. It comes fully equipped with all the appliances, cookware, and basic pantry items you'll need, right down to the Vitamix blender and Opal pebble ice maker. With a double cast iron farm sink, plenty of counter space, a butcher block island and long, antique farm table, you have options for where you prep and dine.brbr★★ 3.5 Bedrooms ★★brAcross the 3.5 bedrooms, you will find 2 queen-sized beds and 3 twin-sized beds, each fitted with high-quality bedding and mattresses, and topped with antique quilts, just right for a peaceful and comfortable sleep throughout your stay.brbrThere is a unique, secret, semi-private loft library above the kitchen that is a fun place for flexible sleeping for an extra solo guest. We often argue over who is going to get this bed. It's our favorite. Just know that while we call it a bedroom in our listing, it's actually open to the kitchen below, hence the .5 designation.brbrWe also offer a spotless pack-and-play (with sheets and a child-size quilt) for any of our tiny visitors.brbr★★ 1.5 Sparkling Bathrooms ★★ brBrand new bathrooms (one full, one half) have just been installed in the home, which never saw a modern bathroom prior to the restoration in 2022. Your hosts provide a starter kit of toiletries, which includes shampoo, conditioner, soap, shower gel, q-tips, a hair dryer, plus some emergency toiletries, should you forget something critical. Fluffy white towels and makeup removal face cloths are plentiful as well.brbr★★ Outside Space ★★ brThe outdoor space offers a variety of options for dining, playing, or relaxing while enjoying the bucolic countryside . At the front of the house, you can sit on the porch swing and rocking chairs and chat over morning coffee or evening cocktails. In the fully-fenced backyard, take a nap in the shady hammock, play a round of horseshoes, or just gaze out at the pollinator garden we're growing. Gather around the custom-made picnic table for 12, or wrap up in a Mexican blanket and camp out by the fire pit for s'mores or a singalong. A supply of wood for the fire will be provided for you, and there's also a gas grill available for barbecuing.brbrPerhaps the quirkiest and most memorable thing you could do out here is take an outdoor bath in our side-by-side clawfoot tubs, plumbed with hot and cold water and set on a covered platform. Our guests rave about this experience, and have told us time and again that having a soak out here more than makes up for the fact that there's just one full bathroom inside the house.brbr★★ Honky Tonk Bar/Laundry ★★ brRemember how we said there was no bathroom prior to the restoration in 2022 Well, technically, there was. It was this detached privy and bath house in the backyard, which we have turned into a tiny, rowdy, little pub. Set 'em up and play some cards, have some laughs, spin some old country records and have a fun time in this unique little spot. brbr★★ Parking ★★ brThe driveway accommodates several vehicles, plenty of space for all your crew. Please note that street parking and parking inside the fenced yard is not permitted.brbr★★ Dogs Welcome! ★★ brA vacation isn’t the same without your pets, is it With that in mind, you're welcome to bring up to 2 dogs with you during your stay, provided that they are well-behaved and that you pick up after them with the provided poop bags. We provide a bed, food/water bowls, treats, a lighted collar, and a fenced in yard for them. While we do not collect an additional pet fee, you will be held responsible for any damage caused by your pets to the home or garden. Due to allergies, we cannot allow cats.brbr★★ What's Nearby ★★ brbrWhile we think it's fun to just hang out here all weekend, there's a whole lot to do in the area. You'll find water sports aplenty along the Haw River and nearby Lake Jordan. If you're a cyclist, we're just off the Bynum Loop trail. Hikers can explore our seven acres, or the Haw River trail system in nearby Saxapahaw. brbrTake a 10-15 minute drive to nearby towns, including:brbr★★ Saxapahaw★★ brbrLocal shopping, sightseeing, and live music-seeing in the tiny, riverside town of Saxapahaw. Don't miss the restored mill that houses the Haw River Ballroom, one of the best places in the area to hear live music. Every Saturday, all summer long, the town hosts a weekly Saturdays in Saxapahaw event, a popular event for buying local crafts, having a beer, listening to live music, and people-watching.brbr★★ Pittsboro★★ brbrSpend an afternoon perusing the shops and restaurants that dot Pittsboro's charming main drag, or plan an outing to The Plant, a former flower farm turned agricultural wonderland. Pick up some local farm-to-fork spirits, foods, goods, and wander around the gardens. brbr★★ Carrboro/Chapel Hill★★ brbrYou may choose to stay here specifically for business or fun in our nearest big city. Fear not, despite feeling worlds away, we're just a 13 minute drive from downtown Carrboro, and a just few minutes more to Chapel Hill. brbr★★ Treasure Hunters Unite!★★ brbrAll of the Hotsy-Totsy's eclectic furnishings (save for a few things like mattresses and bed linens/pillows) were sourced from the fabulous secondhand/vintage/antique shops around the area. If treasure-hunting is your thing, Jane can provide her list of favorite local shops with like-minded hunters.brbr★☆ Book your stay at The Hotsy-Totsy to experience a relaxing, unique, and unforgettable trip with your traveling companions ☆★

Two story cottage on 62 acre Het Landhuis estate

Pittsboro, North Carolina, United States

The Pool Cobeana (not a misspelling but the combination of our two children's names) is beautifully situated overlooking a large pond with islands connected by a wrought iron bridge. The house has very unique features, from re-purposed chicken house interior tin ceilings to an outside oak bar at the pool. The house was built in 2005 using oak boards from a local sawmill. The tin ceilings were repurposed from a local chicken house; the upstairs and downstairs floor tiles were designed, cut and installed by the owners’ family. The bar in the kitchen was constructed using aged boards from the original Het Landhuis Barn across the street, prior to its demolition. (The current Het Landhuis Barn was reconstructed in 2004) The Cobeana bathroom sink was removed from a demolished Chatham County home and refurbished, the sink cabinet is custom made by the owners. The beds are antique and were given to the owners by family members.brbrThe structure is part of a private Dutch influenced estate that after 20 years of work is now opening its doors to the public. brbrPlease download the Het Landhuis app for directions, additional pictures and more details about this unique property. brbrIf you are looking for an upscale unique property in a quiet country setting this is the right choice for you. brbrBesides the Pool Cobeana there is a Log Cabin guesthouse available as well. This historical building can also be found on VRBO.brbrThe Log Cabin was moved about 6 miles from its original location; it was an unused building that was about to be burned down. A symbolic price of 500 dollars was paid and no expense was spared to move and completely renovate this century old historic hand hewn log cabin. The outside the building was covered with old tiles, these were removed and all the chink in between the hand hewn logs was replaced.brThe second floor was inaccessible and could not be walked on. The floor was reinforced with steel beams and a staircase had to be installed. A wrought iron rail from an old New York apartment building was reworked and serves as the hand rail. The original roof was tin with exposed beams; insulation and boards were added, leaving the unique beams in place. A bathroom was added to the structure, a difficult to find small claw foot tub was installed; the owner custom made the cabinet in which an old ceramic sink was built in.brTo complement the overall feeling of the building, antique pieces were added. The living room wood stove is over a hundred years old; the round piece in the opposite corner is an antique refrigerator. In the old days ice was dropped in the top to cool the bottom part. brbrOther buildings and features of the Het Landhuis Estate are described below:brbrThe Het Landhuis Barn was constructed over a 2 year period and was finalized in 2004. The original barn was a smaller version of the present structure; unfortunately it was the only building that could not be saved on the Het Landhuis 62 acre property. However some original barn items were re-used successfully in the new structure. The sliding door to the back room upstairs is the authentic front door and railing and the bar tops both upstairs and downstairs are constructed from the old barn’s floor planks. brThe barn was originally designed as a private entertainment area for the owners; it was designed to feel majestic and magical. Attention was given to the smallest details thereby offering a new surprise each time you visit. The downstairs area originally served as a garage, this was later changed into an additional entertainment area with a bar, imported antique European church door entrance, as well as custom made double wrought iron doors giving access to the foyer. brThe foyer main entrance floor mosaic design represents the coat of arms of The Netherlands, the French words in the crest stand for We Will Survive. The mosaic was laid over a 2 month period by family members; additional mosaics can be found in the bathrooms upstairs; they are representative of the City of The Hague in Holland, the birth place of one of the owners.brEach of the three bathrooms represents a work of art; most items were repurposed and have been customized to create very special unique rooms. brThick oak boards were brought in from a local saw mill to build the walls and floors; the iron work is designed by the owners and welded together by the father of one of the owners. Each piece is unique, the 12 foot iron double doors upstairs open up to the hallway leading to the back room of the barn. The back room originally was designed as an office, complete with a huge lion faced desk and magical throne chair. The crystal chandelier in the hall way was custom made in Slovakia and was shipped to Het Landhuis in 2008. The round 6 feet diameter iron chandeliers in the main room upstairs were designed, custom made and wired by family members. For fun a shiny disco ball was added.brThe warming kitchen is very well designed and is equipped to service all events. Just outside the kitchen, behind the red door with the stained glass, is a 7 ft high humidor for fine cigars that will delight the pickiest cigar aficionado.brThe fully equipped upstairs bar was designed to create a Dutch “bruin café” look; a place where you can relax and chat for hours. The downstairs bar was built with an iron tree as main focal point, the iron branches crawl out over the walls and ceiling.brThe barn has authentic imported English stained glass windows, the 3 part stained glass entry door was imported from England. Other doors were purchased from surrounding homes in the area that were scheduled for demolition. By recycling them into their renovations and upgrades, Het Landhuis has found a way to preserve history.brbrThe small other log building on the East Side of the Log Cabin is the oldest structure on the Het Landhuis property. It is over 150 years old and was originally used as a smoke house. The dilapidated structure was converted into a climate controlled wine room without changing anything on the outside. It houses collectible wines, as well as the Het Landhuis wine that is being produced from the scuppernong vineyard on the property.brbrThe Het Landhuis vineyard is the oldest vineyard in Chatham County; for generations people have stopped by to taste the scuppernong grapes at harvest time. Het Landhuis has been making its own Het Landhuis wine every year; a labeled bottle is given to each patron as a gift of appreciation for choosing Het Landhuis as the venue for their eventbrbrMake a wish from the pool terrace and toss a penny into the wishing well which was constructed from the original well that used to service the estate. The eagle perched atop a large stone that overlooks the water was imported from Europe where it once overlooked the entrance of the owner’s childhood home. brbrAcross the pond you will find the Het Landhuis cemetery; this family cemetery was built in 2002. It resembles old European cemeteries built of stone, wrought iron fencing, and majestic wrought iron entrance gates. All of the iron work was done by one of the owner’s father.brThe cemetery was built to give Het Landhuis owners, their family, friends and significant contributors a final resting place. It consists of 4 parcels, the first and second parcels are dedicated to the owners and their immediate family; the 3rd parcel is reserved for people who have actually constructed and maintained the Het Landhuis buildings and grounds for the past 15 years; and the 4th and final parcel is dedicated to the owners’ circle of friends.brbrWe welcome you to Het Landhuis, a magical place where you can still see the Milky Way at night and the air is filled with the soothing sounds of nature.br
