Miller Oceanfront Retreat | Salt + Arbutus Cabins

Bowen Island, British Columbia, Canada

Escape to nature and unwind in the newly refreshed Salt and Arbutus Cabins, perched on a bluff right above the ocean on beautiful Bowen Island. This is an unforgettable retreat that combines the charm of seaside cabins with, elegant styling and beautiful finishes. Take in breathtaking views of Howe Sound and enjoy the sound of waves lapping on the rocks. The cozy interiors of both cabins invite relaxation so you can connect with your group. Perfect up 6 people in 2 separate cabins.brbrWe respect your right to quiet, private enjoyment of our beautiful property, but we are only a phone call away if you need anything at all! Please reach out to your host at any time during your stay. Her contact information will provided at booking. brbrWe are in the Millers Landing area of Bowen Island—very close to the main town of Snug Cove, but a world away in terms of quietude and the feeling of being up front and personal with nature. David Road is a small, residential street that winds along the coast, and our family property comprised of a few cottages hugging the hillside that drops dramatically down in to the Howe Sound. We have ocean access via stairs to the water. You can see neighbours on both sides, but the cottages are situated ahead of them and so the space feels very private. brbrThere are 2 oceanfront cabins at the bottom of the staircase beyond the parking area. They are completely private and self contained. Park in the private driveway and walk to the top of the staircase that leads down to cabins. Full instructions will provided at the time of check in. brbrWelcome to our beloved family oceanfront property on beautiful Bowen Island. This listing for the Miller Oceanfront Retreat includes two oceanfront cabins situated on a high rocky bluff directly above the sea. Being right at the water's edge and sweeping views of the Coastal Mountains are what make this place special. If you want a unique, memorable experience of coastal British Columbia without travelling too far from Vancouver, this property on Bowen Island is a solid choice for groups of up to 6 people in 2 cabins. brbrThe main SALT CABIN sleeps up to 4 people in two beds. It offers a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with tub/shower combo, wood-burning fireplace, king bed and gorgeous ocean views, and large patio with comfortable dining and lounge seating, a propane fire table, and BBQ. brbrThe neighbouring ARBUTUS CABIN sleeps up to 2 people. It has a queen bed with ocean views, a private bathroom, and coffee/tea bar. It is just steps away from the SALT CABIN. It has its own patio with cozy lounge furniture.brbrThe two cabins both have sweeping views of Howe Sound—you can't get closer to the water. We frequently see whales, sea lions, seals, and all sorts of other marine and bird life. Sunrises over the coastal mountains are enchanting, and the backlit mountains at sunset provide a gorgeous ambiance for nighttime patio meals. There is access to the water down the stairs, via rocky terrain. Kayak, swim or fish from the rocks! Relax by the water, unwind by the fire inside or out, and enjoy a serene island getaway. Watch the moon and sunrise from any of the outer decks, sip coffee overlooking the ocean while watching the eagles soar overhead.brbrNEED MORE SPACE : This listing is for the Salt + Arbutus Cabins that sleep up to 6 in 3 beds. If you need more space, you can inquire about the availability of the CEDAR CABIN to add sleeping for up to 2 more guests. It sits on a hill above the two waterfront cabins. It has pocket ocean views, outdoor patio with seating, a BBQ and small propane fire table. Inside, you'll find a kitchenette, bathroom with shower/tub, and private bedroom with a queen bed. The living room has a quality pull out sofa. brbrbrOne of the two Bowen Island busses will stop by request near the entrance of Miller Road and it would take maybe 10 minutes to walk to the property from that drop off point. There is no Uber or taxi service on the island. It is recommended that you bring your car to take advantage of all there is to see and do on Bowen, though it IS possible to come to this property without a vehicle by bus, bike (rent and eBike from Bowen eBikes), or on foot. We can provide maps that will get you here via small roads and trails, including crossing one of our favourite nearby beaches. brbrHEATING: In the cooler months, you must be comfortable with using a wood stove to heat the Salt Cabin—firewood and kindling are provided. There are baseboard heaters as well, but to properly get it warm in the cabin in the winter months, the wood stove is essential. There is electric, baseboard heat in the Arbutus Cabin. brbrSTAIR ACCESS: There are several stairs to access the cabins from the parking area, so please make sure you are able to handle stairs. brbrADDITIONAL SPACE: brWe sleep up to 6 guests (4 in Salt Cabin and 2 in the Arbutus Cabin) in this listing. If you need additional space/more beds, you can ask about the availability of the CEDAR CABIN. It includes a partial kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom with a queen bed.brbrGUEST SCREENING AND DAMAGE PROTECTION: To help protect our guests and properties, direct bookings are subject to automated guest screening through Truvi, our third-party screening and damage-protection provider. Cozy suite minutes from the ocean on Bowen Island

Bowen Island, British Columbia, Canada

This private two-bedroom suite in Deep Bay is a short walk from the ferry terminal on Bowen Island. Light pours into the garden-level dwelling from big windows overlooking your private covered patio with comfy lounge chairs. brbrInside is a simple and clean kitchen with a glass range and large fridge and freezer. A BBQ is available for guest use, if you want to venture outside of the kitchen. We have most of the kitchen items you need to cook a meal, but for guest safety we do not provide any pantry basics. We do provide tea and coffee for the first night of your stay (Keurig and individually packaged tea bags). There is a French Press for those who prefer to bring your own favourite roast with you. brbrA table for four sits in the open layout living/kitchen space, which also has a comfy couch and two chairs. There's a smart TV in the living space where you can sign on to Netflix, Prime etc.brbrThe bedrooms are comfortable and quiet, and keep cool during hot summer months. The bathroom is sleek and has a nice deep bathtub - ready for you to have a relaxing soak, or if you prefer a shower there are dual shower heads.brbrYou will be minutes away from many great things to do on Bowen Island - no car required. Pebbly Beach is a rocky beach located on the north side of Mannion Bay on Bowen Island and is a semi-secluded spot for swimming - you can walk there in around 3-5 minutes. Snug Cove (where the ferry comes in) is a very pleasant 10 to 15 minute jaunt away – restaurants, shops etc. Killarney Lake, a great picnic spot with lots of trails, is also walking distance.brbrFor those of you not familiar with the area, West Vancouver and Vancouver downtown is only a short ferry ride away and it is a pretty little trip. Day-trips to the mainland, even all via public transportation are possible- just watch the ferry schedule for the last one home- it is usually around 10pm. Ferry delays are frequent unfortunately. The ferry is the only option on and off the island- so this suite is NOT suitable if you have evening plans in Vancouver later than 9pm as the North Vancouver traffic is unpredictable and it may take an hour or more to get to ferry terminal and you need to be there 30-40 minutes before the sailing even if there is no line up, and much earlier if there is a line up. brbrSpeedy wifi and a serene environment makes this a great option for anyone who works remotely, but wants a break from the city and a chance to see the stars.brbrThis suite is set up for adults, not for children and we are officially no pets. brPlease feel free to message us with any questions about when we may be able to make exceptions with additional precautions and fees. This is a property with strictly no parties or loud late nights - quiet time is from 11 pm to 7 am. No unregistered guests or hosting is allowed. We look forward to seeing you!

BowInn - Sauna & Walkable to Snug Cove

Bowen Island, British Columbia, Canada

Adventure is at your doorstep at The BowInn. We have trails for walking, running, hiking, and cycling just outside. The cozy 2-bedroom suite is nestled in the forest, just a 3-min drive from the ferry and local beaches. Optional add on of a private Forest Sauna for up to 6 people. Fully private with its own entryway, it also has a kitchenette, spacious living area, and outdoor dining area w/ BBQ and outdoor seating. Get local intel about things to do solo or with kids at any time of year.brbrWe would love to interact with and orient you to the BowInn and the island if you'd like that, but we are also fully respectful of your privacy if you prefer no contact and want to just arrive and hide away. We are always just a text or phone call away. brbr 3 min drive from the village/Ferrybr 2 min walk to trails that circumnavigate the Killarney lake and intricate trail systems of Bowen Island. br 15 min walk to Snug Cove/Ferrybr One of the prettiest, quietest country roads on Bowen and it's within walking distance of Snug Cove, Bowen Island's main town and where the ferry comes in. There are trails leading off Collins Road in both directions—out towards the mountains and forests the criss cross the island and back towards to cove and beaches of the east side. br Start your day with a morning hike around Killarney Lake followed by breakfast at a local restaurant and a visit to a few local galleries. Known as a haven for rest, relaxation and nature away from the city, Bowen has a wide range of activities to enjoy.brbrThe suite is on the ground level of the house, with its own separate entrance and parking area. You will hear the resident-host family upstairs on occasion, but guests rarely complain about noise. If you are super sensitive to noise above you, though, this might not be the right place for you. Get in touch or check out some of my other listings! brbrThe BowInn is hosted by Discover Bowen, Saskia’s local company that curates beautiful unique stays and experiences on the island. All of our properties are thoughtfully and beautifully designed, are close to special features on the island, and are hosted to a high standard. brbrABOUT THE SPACE: brThe BowInn has 2 spacious bedrooms with two queen beds, a fold down twin bed in the living room, a kitchenette (double burner induction hot plate, microwave, toaster oven, Keurig coffee machine, kettle, ice maker, and small fridge/freezer) with a island that has bar seating for 4, a large living room with a cozy couch, arm chair, electric fireplace, and Smart TV. There is lots of parking, and an outdoor seating area with soft lighting, a table that seats 4-6 people, and a full size BBQ. If you’re coming with kids, you’ll find a selection of toys (Lego, train set, dominos), books, activity books, and games. We provide tea and coffee. You will have everything you need for a relaxing stay in, or an adventure out! brbrIf you need an extra room for more people, Saskia manages other nearby listings and can work with you to host a larger group all in the same area. brbrFOREST SAUNA: BowInn guests get optional access to our cedar barrel forest sauna—nestled among tall trees on a terrace above the suite. The site has patio lighting strung between trees, an optional fire pit with outdoor seating (for use on dry nights), and space to hang your clothing and towels. We provide towels and a drinking water station, and a bucket of water for light use on the rocks in the sauna (creating a bit of steam). The space is made for 4 but *can* host up to 6, and you would have private use of it and the outside area for the duration of your appointment. Sessions are 90 minutes with the option to extend if you like (just let us know). Inquire for more details after booking to arrange your time. It’s a good idea to book in advance. brbrFAMILIES: We warmly welcome families and kids! Your host has a 12 year old girl and 8 year old boy upstairs. Some toys and games are provided, but please do ask for toys, games, bikes for any age. We are also more than happy to help with pack n' play and other pieces of bulky equipment so you don't have to lug so much from the mainland. brbrPET OWNERS: We welcome dogs at the BowInn, thought there is an additional $35 cleaning fee applied when you bring a dog, since we have to do a much deeper clean after a pet has stayed. We ask that you bring your own towels for mucky paws (all of ours are white!). We regret that we can't allow cats.brbrYOUR HOST: Your host is an avid hiker, runner, cyclist and mother of two little ones—Annika (12) and Aden (8). I am excited to welcome you to my home and to orient you to everything there is to do on our beautiful island. I run several vacation rentals and retreat spaces through my company, Discover Bowen. Some general pointers: brbrCYCLING/ CYCLISTS: Bowen is an amazing destination for cyclists! It's on the map now as one of the big challenges on the lower mainland for road cyclists taking on the (in)famous Bowen Island Man—w/ over 120km distance and 4000m of climbing). Do it in one day or break it into two or more parts while you stay with us. OR, discuss options for lesser known gravel, trail, and road routes criss crossing the island, with stops at beautiful cideries, beaches, and farms along the way. Your host is a road, gravel, and MTB enthusiast. She is happy to offer tips to riders. She can help you plan your route/s, share maps and/or Strava routes for your bike computer. If you are taking on the (in)famous Bowen Island Man ride, she and her hosting team will do their best to support you. We have rehydration tablets, gels, gummmies and other cycling necessities available for purchase (so you'll never run out), excellent coffee to get your day rolling, all basic bike tools for tune ups/maintenance, a bike stand, pumps, wash station and more. We also have a great relationship with the Bowen eBikes company (and can get you a small discount) if you want to explore eBike rental for yourself, friends, or family members. They have chariots to pull kids, and your host can recommend great family friendly routes to explore nearby Bowen trails and beaches. brbrHIKERS/WALKERS: Your host also knows the trails of Bowen for hiking and walking. Feel free to consult her about where to (not) get lost.brbrBEACHES: Bowen doesn't have any long beach walks, but we have beautiful hidden beaches all over the island that don't get busy! Happy to share tips and suggestions for your best beach days. brbrLocal License: 00000746brProvincial License: H104153139brbrCollins Road is a very quiet little road near the cove, and there is also ample free street parking should you need it (but you won't!). brbr1 large parking spot big enough for any vehicle type is provided right next to the suite. More parking is available. brbrThere's a bus that meets the ferry that will get you to the bottom of our road, and from there it's a 5 minute walk up the quiet road, with a 50m hill to climb. Though you can walk or bus here easily, it's a good idea to bring a car if you can because it will give you the best access to the island's many amenities and adventures. brbrCheck out Zoom Zoom scooter rentals, they are a 10 min walk from the property, or Bowen eBikes located right at the ferry terminal. After you book, I am happy to provide discount codes for Discover Bowen guests!
