Witness the annual flock migrations as they fly by at eye level, and watch them dive for the rich bounty of the harbor.brbrIn Winter, the view becomes dramatic. A roaring fireplace keeps everyone toasty while watching the storms roll in over the harbor. The best time of year for the hot tub:-)brbrHigh-speed internet for those working remotely, top-level Comcast speed. Lots of separate workspaces; two bedrooms have desks, an office area in the kitchen, and a kitchen table with the best view of all.brbrAn open-concept demonstration kitchen, spacious and with views from every window, allows for lots of group cooking and entertaining. A gas high-BTU stove makes it easy.brbrDining table accommodates 10 for dinner. The piano in the room ensures everyone is entertained! brbrThe massive deck is the best of the house. Watch the boats navigate to and from the Quartermaster Yacht Club, as well as the marina, all day long. Surrounded by towering 200' trees, eagles and cormorants are amazing to watch. Very private, you cannot see neighbors and have your own private beach. A gas grill is provided for your use. Dock for your boat.brbrA state-of-the-art eight (8!) person Grandee Hot Springs Hot tub overlooks the harbor as well. Using silver-ion technology for cleanliness, it relies on bromine, for those with sensitivities and is completely sanitized between guests. It features a color-lightshow option for evening fun. brbrThe Fourth of July Vashon Fireworks display, which rivals Seattle's, is shot from a barge anchored in the inner harbor, DIRECTLY IN FRONT of our deck. Definitely the best place for the 4th.brbrThe Inner Harbor is calm and full of areas to explore. Two marinas, a Kayak Center, boat launch and park are all walking distance. We offer a rowboat and two stand-up paddle boards, as well as all sizes of life vests. Seals, herons, cormorants and a huge variety of crabs and clams are all there to observe and enjoy. brbrVashon is rural country, but you can walk to the best General Store left in the county, Harbor Mercantile (The Burton Store), a gorgeous 10 minutes walk. Also walking, the friendly Burton Coffee Stand is across the street. The Burton Loop, with its renowned Kayaking Center, parks and summer camp, is also a walk away. You can flag-stop Metro buses at the front gate of the house, for a ride into Vashon, the ferry, Seattle or Tacoma. If you're driving, there is room for 4 cars.brbrIn July and August, we have a 5-day minimum stay. Blackberries rule Vashon, and the sweetest and fattest come from this part of the island, everywhere you look. Recipes for ice cream, preserves, pie and sauces are in the cupboard, as is a terrific ice-cream maker. The sweet fragrance permeates the island!

Classic Westside Farmhouse w/ Fruit & Water View on 10 acres with AC and Hot Tub

Vashon, Washington, United States

Our peaceful retreat can be a haven for a long weekend or a week-long stay on Vashon Island, just 15 or 20 minutes from Seattle or Tacoma by ferry. We have a 24 hour period between each guest stay for cleaning and sanitizing. This summer, we also have two portable AC units for hot days and our hot tub is open and ready for a soak at the end of the day. brbrWe have availability for folks looking to take a break or work remotely. We have excellent wifi and Internet resources combined with the relaxing feeling of “being away from it all.” A recent guest said This was the first time I experienced the true Vashon experience even though I have visited the island many times. brbrDrive-up our long, quiet drive, open our gate to privacy, peace, fruit, and contemplation available for two people to four couples. Three night minimum and week-long rentals available at our beautiful craftsman home on one of the last full original 10 acre homesteads from the 1920's located on Vashon Island's west side with park-like landscaping and a view of water and Olympic Mountains. Entire home, three historic barns, and property are yours! brbrArts and crafts 1922 farmhouse in excellent condition with original features. Four bedroom, 1.5 bath, updated kitchen and two family rooms for vacation rental or as weekend stay as part of your wedding. Lounge on our lovely sunny front porch for breakfast and enjoy beautiful sunsets on the back porch in the evening. Situated on a 10 acre farm with western exposure. Exquisite landscaping, gardens and apple, cherry, pear and plum orchard around home, most of the land is in pasture grass. Water view (Colvos Passage) and peek-a-boo view of the Olympic Mountains. 2 car garage available. Pasture and fields available for walks. brbrHouse and garden are available also as a wedding venue for wedding party dinners, venue only, or stay the whole weekend and host your wedding at the house, barns and gardens for up to 50 guests. Pricing for this is separate from accommodation.brbrBlue Sky Vashon is in a perfect location to enjoy Vashon Island. It is 10 minutes from the northern ferry dock to and from Seattle. It is about five minutes from the quaint and fun downtown of Vashon itself, home of great restaurants, gift shops and the movie theater as well as the downtown Saturday Farmer's Market. It is a wonderful location to start a bike ride on Westside Highway or take the ferry to Tacoma and venture two hours to Mount Rainier National Park to the east or two hours to the Olympic range or peninsula National Park to the west for amazing hiking.brbrThe farmhouse was built in 1922 and its original fir floors and wavy glass windows are still intact. The lower floor includes a big light sitting area with breakfast nook and eat-in kitchen with all new appliances, dishwasher, and central island. Extras include blender and a breakfast basket, typically with a selection of bars, oatmeal, coffees and teas. Walk through the open plan living room and dining room and eat your breakfast on the big old fashioned front porch with a view east and lovely morning sun. On the east side of the lower floor is the open living room and dining room with plenty of comfy seating for four to six people. There is an extra bedroom/home office on this floor with a sofa with comfiest pull-out double bed, desk, and the half bath. Wifi and internet access are available through-out the house and outside close to the house. brbrUpstairs you can chose between three nice sized bedrooms each with full or queen beds, windows that open onto views of the garden and larger property. All bedrooms have new pull down shades for privacy and better sleep. brThe front bedroom is the smallest with a full bed, but it has arguably the best view out the front of the house and to the east. The master has its own AC unit in the summer and looks south and west to the water view. The north bedroom is the most quiet with a peak-a-boo view of the Olympic range and the sunset. It also has its own AC unit in the summer but they are also rollable in the upstairs bedrooms. brEach bedroom has a large, cedar-lined closet with plenty of hangers. Each bed is new with IKEA linens and new duvet comforters which are fluffy and comfortable. Some of our review comments include sleeping on clouds and very comfortable.br brThe full bath is on the 2nd floor with an old fashioned claw-foot tub and a modern shower along with plenty of towels and a basket of supplies should you have forgotten anything. The view is amazing from the bathroom window looking west to the water and the Olympic mountain range. On clear days, you can see many of the mountains. The sunsets are gorgeous. brbrTo top it off, at the end of the day, you can wander down and soak in the hot tub off the back porch. It is on our circular patio surrounded by privacy trees with a view to the east and west. We have it set at outside temperatures as it has been a hot summer, but it makes for a refreshing plunge after a hot day in the summer. brbrRelax! This property is so peaceful. The main sounds are the many birds and the family of bald eagles living in the trees along the bluff. We also rent this property for small group and spiritual retreats, which is a testament to the quiet and restfulness of the house and surrounding garden. You can walk the entire property to see the arboretum of unique trees or just sit and enjoy the sunset. brbrSometimes the input from another guests says it best. Here are the comments from a Bay Area guest who stayed for two weeks last June with his family:br“A slice of heaven is insufficient to describe Blue Sky Farm on Vashon Island. It might just be the whole dang pie. And speaking of pie; if you bring supplies to make a crust, there is no shortage of pie cherries to be picked in late June to make one yourself. There are also bing cherries dangling from gorgeous tree just beside the house you can see from almost every room. Many of the resident birds (we identified nearly two dozen species on the farm alone) also eat to their hearts’ content. But that’s not a problem. There are plenty to go around. This is the land of abundance. And harmony. And tranquility. And in the late summer and early fall, it’s evidently the land of apples. We just happened to be too early to enjoy them. We stayed for two weeks at the end of June and we are already plotting our return. Tilda’s hospitality and attention to detail are second to none. She was such a pleasure to communicate with and was always prompt to reply. We loved our walks among the wide array of mature trees dispersed throughout the property. The sunsets over Colvos Passage were majestic from the back porch. From upstairs you can catch a glimpse of the Olympic Mountains. Everything here exudes charm — from the bird mural in the stairwell, to the stained glass in the bathroom, to the aging, but by no means dilapidated, barn, stable and studio buildings that dot the landscape. As a photographer, I was never able to find a bad angle. The farm is just a short drive from town where there are plenty of dining and shopping options. It’s also nearby a number of gorgeous parks, beaches and trails. On the island, you are never more than five minutes from a public space where you can take in nature. Our favorite hike was at Burton Acres which featured older second growth trees and gently graded trails. KVI was our favorite beach to visit but Fern Cove felt like a private nature preserve. Try to time your beach visits for low tide and bring some sandals or boots. Tilda supplies a superb local guide book that details all of the beaches and trails the island has to offer and how to get to them. If you are looking for somewhere to be rejuvenated, discover peace and experience what heaven might actually be like, look no further than Blue Sky Farm.” brThank you, Jonathan. brbrHope you will visit Blue Sky Farm and Vashon Island soon.

The Washington State Ferries (WSF) system runs three primary vehicle ferry routes to the island, landing at either the north end (Vashon Ferry Terminal) from Southworth (west) or Fauntleroy (east/Seattle), or the south end (Tahlequah Ferry Terminal) from Point Defiance (south/Tacoma).brbrExplore Vashon Island and Seattle’s Charms brbrLocated in the heart of Dockton, this retreat is minutes from Vashon’s vibrant offerings. Stroll to the Vashon Village (6 miles) for eclectic shops, cozy cafes like The Ruby Brink, or farm-to-table dining at May Kitchen + Bar. Wander the trails at Maury Island Marine Park for breathtaking Puget Sound views or beachcomb along Point Robinson Lighthouse, a historic gem with a keeper’s cottage straight out of a storybook. Art lovers can explore local galleries like Vashon Center for the Arts, while outdoor enthusiasts can kayak with Vashon Watersports or hike the lush trails of Island Center Forest. Visit the Vashon Farmers Market (April-October) for local produce, crafts, and a taste of island life. For a city adventure, hop on a quick ferry to Seattle (20-30 minutes), where you can explore iconic landmarks like Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, or Chihuly Garden and Glass. Enjoy Seattle’s vibrant dining scene, stroll through historic Pioneer Square, or take a scenic waterfront walk along Puget Sound, all easily accessible for a day trip from your magical island retreat.brbrFerry Schedules & Tickets: Check live schedules and purchase tickets via the WSF website or app. Round-trip fares for vehicles and passengers are paid when heading to the island; exiting is free. To ensure a smooth voyage, plan to arrive 45–60 minutes early during peak travel times (summer and weekends).brbrThe entire castle is yours to explore, enjoy your magical stay!brbrReaching and roaming this enchanted island is part of the adventure! Since Vashon Island is only accessible by ferry (or by broom, portkey, or private boat for the especially magical), most guests arrive via the Washington State Ferries. Once on the island, having a car is the best way to explore its winding forest roads, hidden beaches, and charming villages at your own pace.brbrThe castle is just a short drive from shops, trails, and local eateries, and there’s ample parking on-site for your carriage (or vehicle of choice). For a slower, storybook pace, bicycles are a delightful way to see the island — just beware of the occasional mischievous hill!brbrFerries to and from Seattle, Tacoma, and Southworth run daily, making day trips to the mainland both easy and scenic. Keep an eye on ferry schedules, especially in summer, when island wanderers abound.brbrHowever you choose to travel, the journey to and around Vashon is all part of the spell.
