All furnishings are new, or carefully restored - not grandma's hand-me-downs! brbrThe Cape Charles Beach Bungalow features a downstairs primary suite with a full bath, queen bed and smart TV. The open living, dining and kitchen areas allow for easy first floor living. A luxury sectional sofa maximizes seating around a wall-mounted smart TV. The dining table seats 7-8, plus seating for 4 at the kitchen island. The fully stocked and equipped kitchen includes under-cabinet lighting, brightening prep areas. Recessed lights (inside and outside) are controlled by dimmers, allowing for individualized lighting control. Also downstairs, a 1/2 bath is directly inside the front door/covered porch. As a newly built home, there are lots of conveniently located electrical outlets. brbrLocated upstairs are two private bedrooms + a sleeping loft/secondary living area. One private bedroom has a queen bed and one private bedroom has two twin beds. The sleeping loft has two double/full platform beds (perfect for kids & teens), as well as another smart TV. The upstairs rooms share a full bath, with plenty of hooks for towels. All beds have new mattresses and lots of pillows. Solid surface flooring downstairs, carpeting upstairs. brbrOutside, rinse off in the corrugated metal shower, enjoy swinging in the Nags Head Hammocks swings, and gather with friends and family in the mature, tree-shaded back yard, which has seating for 10! The covered front porch has a comfortable second dining area, providing sunset views. brbrAs seen in the photos, the beach is located at the top of Washington Avenue, a direct walk or cart ride from the Bungalow. Located a block away from Cape Charles's Central Park, four blocks from the beach, and two blocks from Mason Avenue, the Captain's Cottage is in a prime location in Cape Charles.brbrThe Captain’s Cottage is a historic cassat cottage consisting of four bedrooms and two full baths. There are six beds to comfortably sleep up to nine guests total. The Mermaid bedroom has a queen-size bed; the Seahorse bedroom has a full-size bed; the Nautical bedroom has a twin-size bed and a twin-day bed trundle; the Captain’s Quarters bedroom has a king-size bed as well as its own private balcony. Each bedroom also has its own TV available for streaming and ample bedroom storage during your stay. There is a full bathroom on each floor. The downstairs bathroom features a relaxing soaking tub and a double-headed shower. The upstairs bathroom has a standing shower and a brand new single vanity with storage. Towels, shower essentials, and a hairdryer will be provided during your stay.brbrDownstairs there are two living spaces to gather, stream your favorite shows and movies, and relax. Off the living spaces, there is a small sitting room that features a built-in cabinet bar to enjoy a drink with friends and family. The bar will be equipped with a cocktail maker set, glasses, and an ice bucket. From the sitting room, you will find the beautiful eat-in kitchen outfitted with brand new stainless steel appliances, quartz and marble countertops, and a kitchen island with two barstools. The farmhouse table was originally from an estate sale on the Eastern Shore. The kitchen has all your essentials including a Keurig, french press, hot water kettle, toaster, pots, pans, utensils, spices, plates, and drinkware. Welcome to The Catch of the Cape!brbrOne of the things we loved about this home is how spacious all the rooms are, in particular each bedroom is oversized and the house has several additional spaces that we have found to be unique for most of the homes in the historic district. There is a sunroom to sit and enjoy your coffee in the morning while looking out over the canal and open green space, the pool table room is a great space to enjoy some indoor time after fun in the sun, the dedicated kids space has its own television and couch/trundle bed combo for the kiddos to enjoy, and the comfy tv watching room has plenty of space to kick back and enjoy the game or binge watch your favorite streaming shows. brbrOne of our other favorite things about this property is the large amount of outdoor space, once again a very unique feature for a home situated in the Historic District of Cape Charles. Outside you can enjoy the oversized patio with seating, a pavilion for some nice cool shaded time while outside, a dedicated fire pit space with adirondack chairs, an outdoor shower, and lots of green space for yard games. brbrYes this is a beach house but our hope was to make it a place that offers guests many ways to kick back and enjoy while vacationing in one of our favorite places.brbrThe one question we get from first time renters more than any other is whether being a few blocks from the beach is a hinderance in any way and from our experience it is not, actually there is a lot that we have come to love about being just on the east side of Fig St. The first thing to know is that golf carts are a big part of the Cape Charles experience, if you are coming to stay here we highly recommend you rent a golf cart. With a golf cart you can pretty much be anywhere in town you want to be, including the beach, in just a minute or so. And let's be real, life is always better when riding around in a golf cart :) brbrThe unique benefits of this location is that you get to enjoy lots of green space and views, never have to battle for space to park, and get to have a quiet and serene experience. Here's why: brbrThe movie The Sandlot has long been a favorite of our family. Set in the summer of 1962, it tells the story of a group of friends who play baseball together, go to the pool (and fake drowning to hook up with the smoking hot lifeguard, Wendy Peffercorn), hang out in tree houses and just, generally, get in trouble. It's a nostalgic take on the friendships of our youth, all centered around baseball (the favorite pastime of our family). Every time I watch it, I long for those simpler, easier times depicted in the movie... when the only care in the world was how best to retrieve a baseball that went over a fence. brbrLikewise, that longing for a simpler, easier time is why we fell in love with Cape Charles. My wife and I instantly became enamored by the old-fashioned charm of the town. From the old school hardware store to the breakfast counter at the pharmacy to the beautiful old houses, it really reminded us of some of the iconic scenes depicted in The Sandlot. We, literally, could envision Cape Charles being THE town that Benny The Jet, Scotty Smalls, Ham Porter, and the legendary, Michael Squints Palledorous once lived and raised havoc. brbrSo, we kept coming back. Every summer we would look forward to spending time together as a family on the beach, getting ice cream at Brown Dog, riding bikes around town, eating pizza at DeadRise Pies and just generally, unplugging from our hectic Northern Virginia lifestyle. It was our respite and sanctuary from the chaos of it all.brbrWe knew we eventually wanted to have our own place at Cape Charles and, one day, the perfect house became available. It was just steps to the beach, the downtown shops and Central Park. And, just as importantly, it was big enough for our family and guests.
