The property is located in Gateway Mountain, a 3,000-acre hardwood forest and preserve, which offers a peaceful respite from hectic day-to-day life. brbrIn addition to the varied and breathtaking vistas, guests within Gateway enjoy unspoiled, woodland surroundings and amenities including hiking trails, a private lake in which you can swim if you'd like, a spectacular and private waterfall park and picnic area, and even a small catch and release trout pond (no license required). It is a cozy 1,450 sq ft, 3 bed/2 bath, having a 1,000 sq ft wrap around, covered porch, with a huge hot tub, a full kitchen, spacious living area, relaxing outdoor spaces, and specifically designed to allow you to unplug - rain or shine.brbrThe Cottage:brbrWe wanted to create a special place where you could escape from the world for a few days of quiet relaxation - both for our family to use and to be able to share that experience with others.brbrWith this in mind, we purposely chose not to have a TV in the living room. Our goal is to provide a true retreat for guests who want to unplug and unwind. Kayak/canoe users and passengers must sign a waiver. Downstairs recreation room has 86-inch TV, pool table and Infinity Palisade 3D/4D Massage chair. The dining room sits 8 at the table and 4 more at the kitchen island. Baby chair is available. If you go a bit further you'll stumble upon Lake George, where you can enjoy the covered dock with a nice view of the lake and the Gateway ridges. Many hiking/walking loops mapped out in the Cabin's information book. brbrOur first level is open concept with cathedral ceilings that will give you the true log cabin experience. Island counter top and large hand crafted dining room table provide plenty of room to prepare food and gather with family and friends. Living area with smart 50 TV. Two bedrooms - one queen, and one with two twins. The second level is the master suite with attached bathroom. Jacuzzi bathtub and walk in shower. brbrCovered porch and deck encompassing two full sides of the cabin. Weber grill and patio furniture to enjoy the deck to its fullest. Smoker (14 Weber Smokey Mountain) is available to use if you want to try smoking meat for the first time or perform your patented smoke. brbrJotul wood-burning stove for cozy winter/fall warmth. Outdoor fire pit out back to enjoy the stars and mountain peace. Wood is provided.brbrTowns of Old Fort and Black Mountain only 20-30 minutes away. East Asheville 40 minutes. Lake Lure 35 minutes.brbrOld Fort has a growing restaurant/brewery scene, including Hillman and Whaley Farm Breweries. Catawba Falls just outside of Old Fort has reopened with updated hiking trails! Also check out the new G5 Trail Collective! For mountain bikers, just up the mountain from Old Fort is Kitsuma Peak and if you are a serious biker come in July for the Jerdon Mountain Challenge! The Gateway Trails off Curtis Creek in Old Fort have multi-use trails for all skill levels.brbrQuickest route to the Blue Ridge Parkway is taking 80 just outside of Marion. Once on the parkway go NE towards Little Switzerland, Altapass, and Linville Falls. Or go SW towards Mount Mitchell State Park, Craggy Gardens, and get off in Asheville right by the NC Arboretum! The views on the parkway are best on clear days when the peaks are not covered by clouds, take the time to just cruise and stop at all the lookout points.brbrThere are many hikes that are kid friendly as well. Some of our kids favorite are Toms Creek Falls, Bearwallow Mountain, and Lake Tomahawk.brOther places to check out with kids is the WNC Nature Center, Robert Lake Park, Hickory Nut Gap, and our favorite for adults and kids is Whistle Hop Brewery!brbrI could go on and on about places to check out! (There is a drawer full of pamphlets and information in the table behind the couch.) We are at a central location for any outdoor enthusiasts! There is so much to check out around the cabin that you will have to come again to see all that the area has to offer! The full bathroom, complete with a new glass-enclosed waterfall shower, toilet with heated seat and bidet, and luxurious heated floors, can be accessed from the hallway.brbrUpstairs is a traditional open loft with a dedicated workspace, reading nook, and two mammoth LoveSac bean bags to immerse in the year-round views of the mountain vista through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Also in the loft is a king-size bed and en suite bathroom with a walk-in shower, double vanity, luxurious heated floors, and a stackable washer and dryer. There is also a mini split air conditioning unit to ensure comfort year-round. After watching the sun dip below the tree-lined mountaintops, pull the curtains gently closed to create a more private space.brbrContinue to the lower level for the heart of entertainment! Here, you'll find a projector with a 120 screen, elevated recliners, and a cozy daybed with a Twin bed and Twin trundle that will make your favorite family movie come to life. Step outside onto the hot tub entertainment area under bistro-style lighting after a day of exploring, lounge in the Adirondack glider chairs around the newly-added outdoor fire table, prepare a delicious pizza in the new gas-powered Ooni Koda 16 pizza oven, lounge in the suspended hammock overlooking the mountains, or wander through the magical fairy gardens around the property. Sorry, this home is not cat-friendly due to common allergies. This home now offers fiber optic internet with speeds up to 1 GB and a Verizon network extender to assist with better cell phone coverage (i.e., boosts signal to full bars of LTE). There is also an E911 system if a phone signal is unavailable. The scenic journey to the house where gorgeous views await is steep and curvy, yet paved with a small section of gravel before the incline begins. To provide an inviting and grand entrance for guests traveling to the house in the twilight hours, there are thoughtfully arranged landscape lights illuminating the house sign, driveway, and walking paths. brbrNo RVs, boat trailers, camping trailers, or trailers of any kind are permitted in the Gateway Mountain Community, and no parking is allowed on roadways or at gate entrances. As of May 2026, Lake George is closed until further notice and off limits to boating, swimming, fishing, and pet use. brbrThis home offers a 22 kW Generac whole home generator that is also connected to the hot tub, so your vacation won't be interrupted in the unlikely event of a power outage. The home also offers two air purifier units to keep you enjoying that fresh mountain air inside and out!
