This quaint 3 bedroom, 1.5 bath has a full kitchen stocked with cooking essentials, a back patio looking out to the backyard and ocean, and a kid`s playroom at the front of the house making this a perfect home away from home for you and the kids. However, we ask you to help us with the following pet rules while staying with us.brbrbrbr1. Please don`t leave your pet in the rooms unattended.brbrbrbrWhy Because they miss you and from our experience of being professional hosts since the 90`s, when they are lonely they howl or bark causing others to lose the quiet enjoyment on the property. Lonely pets also use the bed or other furniture to snuggle on while you are away. This is super tough for our housekeepers to remedy because blankets or comforters need to be washed or replaced, also furnishings can take hours to remove hair from so we can present a clean space for the next guest.brbrbrbrMaine is a very pet friendly place and since you brought them on vacation we hope you keep them with you so they can enjoy `Vacation Land` as much as humans do.brbrbrbr2. Please pick up all the poop/excrement they may have.brbrbrbr3. Please have your pup on a leash when enjoying the common areas.brbrbrbr4. Paradise! Share our private peninsula & beach, vacation or year-round

Milbridge, Maine, United States

Nov. 8 update: Maine is beautiful in winter and spring! Consider a stay from November through May. brbrbrGENERAL NOTE: We now give priority to longer-term visitors. But always ask about dates you may be interested in, including for a stay of just a few days or a week, in case there are quick changes in the schedule. We'll gladly accommodate you if we can. brbrbr** IMPORTANT ABOUT BOOKING REQUESTS: INQUIRE any time, and we'll be happy to give you a customized quote for your needs, very promptly. :) Just please don't formally Request dates till you've gotten that response from us. It hurts our standing on the rental platform if we decline booking requests that we can't fulfill.brbrREVIEWS: Since March 2020, we've mostly had long-term, private-booking renters, hence the slight age of most reviews here.brbrNow about that DESCRIPTION...brbr===============brHello! Here at Fish Point we’re unique in welcoming not only summer and fall vacationers, but also, year-round, business travelers or medical personnel needing a longer stay, and people desiring artist-retreat rentals: writers, visual artists, and composers/songwriters. * brbrWhile we know some travelers look for a stand-alone house, this is not just an apartment. As one happy guest remarked when he first walked in: You have a palazzo [a palace] here! This palazzo is also handicap-accessible. We're highly respectful of our guests' needs for peace and privacy. Meanwhile, we're available for special needs, help in emergencies, the latest tips and advice about the area.brbrWe call our rental business THE 'GUST' HOUSE for the sea winds that make things exciting! brbrOur home was built in 2002, on a 3-1/2 acre property with a fascinating early American naval-defense history. The house is right along quiet Fickett's Point Road, on the back side of Narraguagus Bay just minutes from Milbridge's center. It's a great road for scenic walks & biking. Cross the broad field behind our house, and you come first to a beautiful gazebo facing the bay (new in 2020), then to a footbridge leading to our own wooded peninsula, used only by our family and guests, which gives you 270-degree views of the ocean, bay, town, and spectacular sunsets across the water. Enjoy the sights from the gazebo, the trails, the benches, or take a meal out to the picnic table at the end of the Point! Sunsets are spectacular out there.brbrA set of stairs leads you down to the beach, one of the rare sand beaches on the Maine coast--along with the large boulders characteristic of the area. We're near the town marina, and kayak rentals are nearby. brbrWe live in the adjoining house, which we've made sonically and visually private from the 1300 SF apartment. The rental apartment is all on the ground floor, with its own private entrances, garden, and a patio/terrace facing the water. It's handicap-accessible, with wide doorways and hall, and flooring of tile, wood and low-nap carpeting--smooth surfaces for walkers or wheelchairs.brbrBedrooms are large for this part of Maine. One has a king bed and the other 2 have queen beds. The king BR has its own private ensuite bathroom with shower. The other two BR's share a bathroom with a large tiled shower. The fully appointed kitchen has excellent appliances, including dishwasher and high quality LP gas range/oven. And of course a lobster pot! The dining area adjoins the large living room, and the apartment has its own washer & dryer. Decor and furnishings are charming, restful--and unique, not off-the-rack.brbrOther amenities: Up-to-date flat-screen television with Spectrum TV, Roku with Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc., plus internet music programs and other bundled services. (BYO Roku device if you have one.) Spectrum fiber-optic internet, blazing fast. Cell services work fine in our location. Small library, games for rainy days, etc. brbrSince acquiring this home in April 2014, we've been gradually restoring the lovely garden beds that surround the entire house. They combine native and wild plants with more formal plantings. The apartment has its own secret garden area, and private patio with a view across the fields and bay, and its own BBQ grill.brbrThough 2014 was our first year at Fish Point, we owned a vacation cottage in Milbridge from 2008-22, and have rented to travelers since 2009. We've gotten raves from our renters at both properties! brbrLOCATION, LOCATION: Guests often tell us how happy they are about our geographic location, too. Milbridge is a great small town, and we're about equidistant from Mt. Desert Island (Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor) and the farthest-east coastal towns like Lubec and Eastport -- and Campobello Island! Do bring passports if you plan to visit Campobello, since it's Canadian. It's easy to make a day or half-day trip to these famous, fascinating vacation spots from our place. brbrWe're less than an hour's drive from ACADIA NATIONAL PARK. The main part of the Park is on Mount Desert Island, about 50 minutes from us. But a less-known section, Schoodic Point, is just about 20 minutes away, and is quieter, fewer crowds, same breath-taking views. Schoodic Point, the part of Acadia that Mainers tend to frequent, also has a fine information and conference center and campground, and is near many art and craft studios. brbr* Our guests' vacation and retreat rental fees help to support the work of Sunrise County Arts Institute, the small Maine non-profit we founded in 2014 as a resource for quality music, theater, writing and visual arts activities in Milbridge and the DownEast/Acadia area.

Charming Oceanfront Cottage-Great Views and 20 Feet from Shore

Milbridge, Maine, United States

Sea Smoke is a delightful cottage offering a peaceful and cozy getaway with spectacular, long views up and down the lovely ocean bay surrounding Rays Point.  This comfortable 2 bedroom, 1½ bath cottage is located in a quiet neighborhood of other cottages and farms on one of Washington County’s most scenic peninsulas. There are wonderful panoramic views of the ever changing tides with many granite points and islands to explore. brOne of Sea Smoke’s biggest advantages is its location – there are only a handful of rental cottages close to the services and amenities of the quaint fishing village of Milbridge, yet far enough away to offer wonderful oceanfront views and countryside privacy. Unlike many of the very remote areas around us, Sea Smoke is conveniently located just 5 miles from Milbridge’s small village center where you will find a good modern grocery story, two restaurants, pharmacy, gas station, public library, medical center, and a couple of cute gift shops to explore. Although there are other lovely cottages to rent across Downeast Maine, you’ll find the convenience of our location combined with Sea Smoke’s scenic, rural atmosphere to be a big plus. brOffering numerous amenities, this clean and comfortable cottage is just 20 feet from the water's edge. Sea Smoke's close proximity to the shore ensures terrific up close water views. Visitors have direct access to the shore via a short set of stairs located in front of the cottage.  A waterside patio is the perfect spot for relaxing with a book while basking in the sun’s warmth and enjoying the refreshing cool afternoon breezes that come off the ocean and bay.  brSea Smoke cottage takes its name from the occasional and brief summer fogs that roll in gently and peacefully from the open ocean and down the bays along the rocky coast of Downeast Maine.  From the cottage you can enjoy watching the clammers as well as the lobster and pleasure boats that come in and out of the channel leading to the open ocean.  You'll delight in watching the late afternoon sun create a spectacular show as its rays light up the pink and orange granite shores of nearby Blaskett Point and Peace Point.  At night you can watch the moon rise across the bay, enjoy thousands of stars, and even the occasional display of the northern lights. brSea Smoke is the perfect size and location for a small family or for couples wanting to get away from it all. The interior of the cottage is decorated with a seaside Maine cottage flair, centered around its water views and rocky shoreline.  The main bedroom offers a queen bed, large closet and an attached private half bath. The guest room features two twin beds. The cottage also has a fully updated center bath, with tub & shower. There is a glass fronted great-room that includes a dining area, living room with electric log fireplace, satellite TV with DVD player, Wi-Fi Internet, and a well equipped kitchen. Cell service is good in the area for most carriers including ATT, Verizon, and US Cellular. brThe waters off of Sea Smoke are wonderful for kayaking or canoeing with the tides to “seal island” where you will see numerous seals and nesting birds.  This is a tidal bay with DownEast tides changing by as much as 14 feet every 6 hours. So, launching from the cottage is limited to hours around high tide; there is a deep water launch site in Milbridge. brThere are several pairs of Bald Eagles nesting nearby, and they are often seen flying over the bay in front of the cottage. You will likely see seals, terns, loons, ducks, and other shore birds along with the foxes, porcupines, and deer that call the Rays Point Peninsula their home.  In July and August you can pick wild blueberries and raspberries along the road. The area around the cottage is perfect for walking or biking. brWith the cottage's central location along Maine’s beautiful Downeast coast, vacationers have many options to choose from when planning the day’s excursions to take advantage of the area’s plentiful sights, activities and cultural events. br In the immediate area of the cottage we recommend hiking and exploring the beautiful ocean side McClellan Park in Milbridge or doing a boat tour of the local islands or the Puffin colonies at the beautiful Petit Manan light house. brYou can also visit Petit Manan Wildlife Refuge (Recently renamed Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge). The coastal hiking trails are spectacular and the seabirds colonies are a wonder to watch.  Petit Manan also allows public access and picking in the refuge's enormous wild blueberry barrens. brAn absolute must is the 15 mile drive to see the stunning mainland section of Acadia National Park at Schoodic Peninsula with it spectacular granite cliffs and large crashing surf.  The park offers wonderful walking trails and you can drive to the top of the 'mountain' for breathtaking views of the ocean, islands, forests, and other mountains in the area.  Along the way visit the small but charming walking villages of Corea and Winter Harbor where you will find a passenger ferry service to Bar Harbor.brTake a day trip to Bar Harbor (60 minutes), or travel up the coast to explore Campobello Island (Canada) and FDR's beautiful summer home (60 minutes).  In the same area, you will find the breathtaking Quoddy Head State Park Lighthouse, the easternmost point in the U.S., with wonderful hikes and walks including an arctic bog nature walk. brWhatever your interest, this terrific area will not disappoint vacationers looking for the real Maine experience.brSea Smoke cottage is 1½ hours from Bangor and the Bangor International Airport, 3½ hours northeast of Portland, 5½ hours from Boston, 8½ hours from New York City, and 2 hours from St. Stephen, New Brunswick. Cottage

Oceanfront Cottage in Downeast Maine with solar power: Two Jetties Cottage

Milbridge, Maine, United States

PLEASE NOTE: The minimum stay is 6 nights (Sunday noon to Saturday 6 pm). We will typically open our summer calendar for booking in late January/early February of the same year. We do NOT have internet/WiFi.brbrThis unique cottage is in a very scenic area, still largely off the beaten path. Two Jetties Cottage is perched on a granite ledge a stone’s throw from Pigeon Hill Bay. It has superb views of the ocean, the shifting tides (tides run 10-14 feet), colorful sunsets across the bay, wildlife such as great blue herons and eagles, the fir tree-clad coastline and islands, and lobster boats at work. The two jetties, made of massive granite blocks, are the remnants of a dock.brbrThe cottage is “off the grid” - not attached to electric power lines. Solar panels on the roof provide electricity to operate the water pump, run electric lights, and charge your cell phone and other electronic devices. The refrigerator, wall lamps, hot water heater, and the magnificent vintage range run on propane gas. The living room includes a large collection of books, as well as some puzzles and games, for those foggy Maine days. The kitchen is equipped with every sort of non-electric gadget you are likely to need, plus an electric coffee grinder. brbrIn addition to the queen bed in the master bedroom, there are bunk beds (2 beds) and a queen bed in the second bedroom. The twin bed on the sun porch allows you to sleep with the stars while still comfortably indoors! Finally, we have a tent platform in the woods by the shore.brbrThe shoreline is rugged pink granite, not sand. There is a beach on the other side of Tom Leighton Point, not far away, that has a natural seawall and sometimes a sand beach, though there are some years when the currents carry most of the sand away from the shore. The water is cold, but the bold do swim in it! There are several lakes in the area that provide excellent swimming. Depending on the season, berry-lovers can find blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, lingon berries, and finally cranberries in the fall. Clams cannot be dug without a license. brbrMilbridge, which is about five miles away, is more of a working town than a tourist town. It has a supermarket, library with computers and also WiFi that you access from outside the library at any time, post office, pharmacy, laundromat, art gallery, and several restaurants (not fancy!).brbrThere are many wonderful options for day trips in the area, with Acadia National Park at the top of the list. It has hundreds of miles of hiking trails and carriage paths, a rugged dramatic coastline and “mountains,” and even a few sand beaches, and of course the tourist town of Bar Harbor. It can be very crowded in the summer, however. The town of Ellsworth, on the way to Acadia, offers plenty of options for shopping. Route 3 between Ellsworth and the national park has a number of amusements. We have a notebook in the cottage with descriptions and maps for finding good hikes and other activities. brbrOur cottage and the rugged terrain around it may not be ideal for toddlers. Dogs are welcome at our cottage (with an additional $50 pet fee). However, be aware that there are hazards in the woods for dogs--especially small ones--including owls, fishers, and porcupines.brbrYou can still find a number of small towns along the coast where the harbor is full of lobster boats. There are some good restaurants, too, though you have to track them down. Campobello Island, where you can visit Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s summer “cottage,” lies just over the border in Canada (bring your passport). brbrPlease note that we rent by the week only, and our rental week is six nights and seven days. Arrive on Sunday at noon or later, and leave on Saturday in late afternoon. brbrWe do not have WiFi. We do not have a grill or fire pit, but we do have a vintage gas range with an excellent built-in grill.brbrThe Town of Milbridge collects garbage on Tuesdays; you will need to bring your trash, and any trash generated by the guests the week before, to a nearby collection point on Tuesday morning. If you stay for two or more weeks, you will need to wash towels and other used linens at the laundromat partway through your stay. brbrKeywords: Cottage, Cabin, House
