The Crosstown area is right downtown and a very safe area, but you will most likely encounter someone who appears homeless or experiencing addiction issues or panhandling in the neighborhood. There is 24 hour security at our building that you can phone if there are any issues of concern. We live in the heart of Chinatown and although it is very vibrant, fantastic, and safe you will see homeless people and people in active addiction in the neighborhood. For the most part, these folks are harmless, but it can be sad and heartbreaking to see. There are multiple reasons for this - far too many to delve into here; all three levels of government are working on making it better. While our suite is several blocks south of the epicenter you are likely to encounter homelessness or addiction issues. Please note this is prevalent throughout downtown Vancouver, and if you are uncomfortable with these encounters you may prefer to stay at a high-end hotel or choose a property outside of downtown. We have lived in the neighborhood for over 12 years and have never experienced any violence or problems and neither have any of our guests.
