It is an ideal place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. Stargaze on a clear night as there is no light pollution. The property is a very safe place with few neighbors and places to explore. The house is not shared with anyone, it will be all to yourselves.brbrBoth bedrooms have Roku or Apple TV, comfortable queen sized beds and cozy linens, dressers, full sized closets and a view of the trees in the forest with private doors to the back deck with chairs, patio set and hammock. My home and property are very clean with lots of light and is comfortably furnished. The loft is not a ailanle for yuest use at this time brbrThe house has a full kitchen. Coffee, coffee maker, tea and condiments are provided along with some breakfast items and snacks. No cable or satellite, but the wifi is very good. brbrHarstine Island has a bridge and is less than an hour from Olympia, 1.5 hrs to SEATAC airport and 1.75 hrs to Seattle, less than 1 hr to the Bremerton ferry and about 2+ hrs to the west coast beaches or Portland. brbrThe house is close to the Olympic mountains for hiking, Lake Cushman for kayaking or to go boating or sailing in the Puget Sound. There are some nice golf courses in the area. The air is clean and crisp, there are lots of birds, we're close to the state park and cove. The property has a summer vegetable garden, apples and blackberries in the fall, a winter creek in my private park, and two decks. The fire ring may be used when there is no burn ban in effect. Fireworks are never permitted.brbrThe town of Shelton is about 20 mins. away and has some fun festivals throughout the year. There are some things to do on the island and there is a farmer's market on Saturdays from May to early Oct. There is a great supermarket, quaint restaurants, shopping and antique stores in downtown. About 8 minutes away are some restaurants and gas. The closest restaurant is casual has a great lake view, bar and pool tables. brbrMy place is NOT handicap accessible and it is not childproof. Only babies that are not walking or crawling and kids 12+ allowed. Infants are not counted as an extra guest. Please bring your own pack and play. No pets, extra guests, weddings or events, please. Cigarette, cigar, marijuana smoking or vaping or is not allowed in the house. You must be checking in and staying with your group (no 3rd party booking.) Comb the endless beach for sand dollars, sea shells, driftwood and other treasures while enjoying the solitude of one of Puget Sound's undiscovered gems. Bring your boat or use one of ours. Swim, fish and crab in the clean waters of Puget Sound.brbrMost of the beaches on Harstine Island are privately owned, including all of the beaches you can access by walking from the house. All of the owners allow people to walk along their beaches, but gathering shellfish (clams, oysters and geoduck) by our guests is prohibited on these private beaches. Property owners are very concerned about people taking shellfish from their beaches, so I ask that you please respect their property.brbrThe beach in front of my property has been over-harvested of its shellfish, so to allow nature to recover we are asking guests to only gather shellfish on the public beaches on the island. There is more information below on the public beaches and in the guidebooks at the house. brbrMy bulkhead, made of large concrete blocks, is 100 feet long, and covers the width of my property. My beach goes all the way out to the lowest low tide point. You are free to walk on any part of my beach and neighboring beaches, north or south, but please DO NOT gather shellfish from the beach directly in front of the house or from neighboring beaches. brbrIf you are planning to gather shellfish, you can drive to several public beaches on the island. One is Harstine Island State Park, which requires a short hike to the beach (DNR-24 beach) and is open to the public for clams and oysters all year. You can walk south on this beach for about a mile and you'll reach McMicken Island State Park, where there is also great shell fishing. Plan to be there at low tide for the best shell fishing. If you own an all-wheel-drive or 4-wheel-drive vehicle, drive that if possible. On the way down the driveway be sure to turn right at the white arrow and park where the driveway becomes level. On the way up the driveway use your vehicle’s lowest gear (or 4WD). Stay to the right for better traction. Maintain a constant speed and avoid stopping and starting. Do not spin your tires. If you lose traction, back down and start again.
