20 minutes from downtown (Tennessee Aquarium Imax Theater, Chattanooga Choo Choo, Ruby Falls, Rock City, and so much more)brbr Get away from it all and still have high speed internet and multiple TVsbrbr Spacious outdoor deck with refrigerator and sitting area right next to river, three comfortable decks off the back of the house (one screened in), plus a huge attached patio with a grill and dinning table for six, a floating dock for those who bring a boat, and both bedrooms and entertainment room and kitchen overlook the Tennessee River.brbrJust recently, renovations were made to the house that include updated bathrooms and kitchen, full paint job and new flooring in parts, and all new furniture. The key to this rental home is the setting, huge grass yard, pavilion and dock, fabulous views of the river and surrounding mountains, and tons of clean/renovated space for ten. And for full disclosure, we inspect the home inside and out just before any renters arrive, so the interior should be perfect, but there is a chance that our local spiders and bugs might build some webs in the interim so be ready to be away from the city and in nature. brbr This cabin comfortably sleeps ten (10), with 1 king sized bed in the master bedroom on the main level with a full bath and a bunk room off the bathroom for little ones (these twin beds are in the back closet of the bathroom and should not be considered for use with adults or anyone who wants their own bedroom...think of this as a pull out couch in the greatroom...doesn't apply to everyone, but can be very useful for some), one (1) queen sized bed with it's own bathroom, and (2) twins in another bedroom upstairs (you have to go through this bedroom to get to the master....a weird layout...we agree)as well as one (1) queen sized bed with a full kitchen and bathroom in a large TV/game room with games and a pool table (all downstairs with it's own entrance).brbrThere are two fireplaces inside the home, but they are now decorative and do not burn wood or gas logs. There is an outdoor fire area on the patio, but the indoor fireplaces do not function.brbr Maximum occupancy at all times is 10 people.brbr This property is about 12 miles from downtown, but sometimes feels further because of the slow, narrow, winding river road. The view is fantastic however, and provides a wonderful way to slow down from hectic daily life!brbrSwimming: The home is on the Tennessee River which is an active river with water flow. The ability to swim in front of the house depends on the amount of water flow the dam upstream is releasing. There is also a shallow cut out area downstream from the dock that allows you to get in and out easy (yes, it is muddy as it is a riverbed), but it is very gradual. I would equate the question of age and ability to swim as I would to swimming in the ocean. If there are huge waves and an undercurrent, you know to stay near the shore. If there is a lot of water flow in front of the dock, I would stay near the shore. Most of the time, it is safe for swimmers to swim off the dock and off the shore, but of course, you need to look at conditions and use your best judgement.brbrDock: The home has a nice dock that will hold up to a 20 foot boat easily. There are boat rental places around (as of this message, Hales Bar Marina Rents them as well as a place on Suck Creek Road (just Google Boat rentals in Chattanooga and make sure they are on the river). Also, Jesse, with River Gorge Excursions (www.rivergorgeexcursions.com) will give $20 discount if you enter vacation at checkout. Gas is either in Chattanooga or Hales Bar so keep that in mind. You are more than welcome to bring your boat (and that is one of the benefits of this home with a large covered dock), but as I said, keep fuel replenishment in the back of our mind. There is a nice long boat put in on the way to the home if you are coming from Chattanooga. There is plenty of room to store the trailer at the house, but it is a tight and winding road to get there, so be careful make sure you know how to pull a trailer if you bring it to the house.brbrGrill and firewood (for the outdoor fireplace only): There is a charcoal grill on property. We have provided charcoal and firewood in the past, but some renters use it all up before we can restock, so please bring your own. If that is a challenge, let me know and I will see if we can ensure there is some for your stay.brbrBugs/snakes/critters/spiderwebs: I want to be very clear on this. We are obsessive about providing an extremely clean property, but this home is on the river and is out in nature, so if you see some of nature, please know that we have done our best. The home is on the river and basically surrounded by woods, so there will be spider webs and water bugs and other things found in nature. We spray all the time for bugs, and we get rid of spider webs before each guest, but they do come back. Also, if lights are left on outside next to the river, you will have a ton of waterbugs show up. If the inside has issues with any bugs, it is on us, if it is outside, then it is a gift from Him. THERE IS A LARGE CHANCE THAT YOU WILL SEE BUGS AND SPIDERWEBS OUTSIDE, ESPECIALLY IN THE SUMMER....AGAIN, YOU MOST LIKELY WILL SEE BUGS AND SPIDERWEBS OUTSIDE DURING YOUR STAY. With 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms, the Glenn Falls Cottage sleeps 6 and is ready to host your next family getaway! Only 4 miles from downtown Chattanooga where you can enjoy some of the best restaurants, art and music in the south; and only 4 miles to Rock City, Ruby Falls and the Aquarium, the Glenn Falls Cottage is central for exploring Lookout Mountain and Chattanooga!brbr· Parking: The parking area for the Cottage can accommodate 2 cars easily. To turn around, we've found that backing up to the forested shoulder of the opposite side of the road is the easiest way to turn around. Using the steep driveway adjacent to 5538 can sometimes lead to bottoming-out problems.br· Glenn Falls road is winding, narrow and steep in some parts. It's only about 1/2 mile long, but if you're not used to mountain roads, then we would suggest checking in during daylight hours.br· Toilets: Please do not flush anything down the toilet aside from toilet paper. We are on a septic system and feminine hygiene products or any other man-made substance will not biodegrade.br· Water: the water from the tap is city water and is safe to drink.br· Kids: We did not baby-proof the house, so please do whatever baby-proofing you need to once you arrive. brWe suggest that you keep a close eye on your kids on the decks and outside as there can be yellow jackets and other potentially harmful critters. br· Bugs: You’re in the South, in the woods, in a 100 year old house – there will be bugs. We do regularly treat the house for cockroaches, ants, and spiders, but please let us know if you see an uncomfortable amount and we’ll spray right away.br· Bonfires: You are welcome to use the fire pit in the backyard. Please put out the flames completely before leaving the fire pit unattended. You're welcome to gather and collect dead wood from the forest but please do not use the purchased cut wood meant for the indoor wood burning stove.br· Wood-burning Stove: A memorable component to your stay , feel free to use the fire starters, chopped wood, and kindling to have a fire in the wood stove.br**Please no fires on the morning of your departure.**br**Please see the Wood Stove Instructions later in this binder before building a fire, even if you are familiar with wood stoves.**br· Barbecue: Please enjoy the charcoal grill on the back porch. Most people don’t know this road exists! However, there are coyotes, bobcats, and even a mountain lion and bear have been spotted in the area so forest-wanderings at night is for the brave of heart.br· Glen Falls Trail: To access the Glen Falls trailhead, walk down the road the way you drove up from St. Elmo, and at the sharp turn right, look ahead into the forest for the trailhead. A landmark for the trailhead is the caged drainage access to the left. Follow the map at the back of this manual to reach Glen Falls (approx. 25 min. hike). There are many trails branching off of the main trail, so we’d recommend snapping a photo of this map and taking it with you.br· Poison Ivy: It’s best to stick to the main trails to avoid an encounter with poison ivy. “Leaves of three, let them be.” Not to be confused with kudzu, which we also have plenty of.br· Chickens: Free-range chickens roam the property and you’re welcome to feed them 1 scoop of scratch grains per day. The container is hanging outside the back door, labeled “Bird Feed.” Please sprinkle feed in the grass to protect little chicken beaks from hard surfaces.br· Cistern: An old cistern is in the side yard. All 3 bedrooms have queen beds with memory foam mattresses and the living room has a queen pull out sofa bed. Enjoy a large tiled walk-in shower in the master bedroom or relax in the jacuzzi tub for a evening! You can gather around the kitchen and dinning area for meals or a game night. The kitchen is full stocked with plate-ware, cookware, glassware, and silverware for your stay. We have a Keriug and provide a medium roast or a dark roast for coffee! Crescent cottage is only minutes from Chattanooga and 7 minutes away from some of Chattanooga's best restaurants! Attractions like Rock City, Ruby Falls, and the Incline railway are all between a 12 and 15 minute drive. brbrThings to Know!br1. Location - Please know that this home is located in Southside Chattanooga which, like most of Downtown and surrounding Chattanooga areas, is in the revitalization phase. Neighborhoods and homes surrounding this one are being rebuilt as the area is expanding with growth from the city. This home is located in a quiet urban community with friendly neighbors and it is conveniently located near most of the city's best attractions and restaurants!br2. There used to be a rooftop balcony above the home, but this is no longer a functional space on this property. Please do not climb on the metal circular stairway behind the house! br3. Lady Bugs: You may see some lady bugs in the home. Majority of the homes in this area have them. To stay ahead of this we are on preventative monthly pest control maintenance for all of our properties. Unfortunately they are still VERY hard to get rid of! Thankfully, they are harmless!
