Asheville is also home to tons of craft breweries, live music, the Friday Eve Drum Circle, art studios and galleries, and unique shopping opportunities. Brevard and Cashiers are even closer and both offer fabulous shopping, art, and dining. Brevard Music Center offers evening concerts from May to the end of August. Cashiers also has outdoor live music in Summer. The thespians at The Historic Flat Rock Theatre provide wonderful evenings out. For a more local experience, head to the Lake Toxaway Community Center on Friday nights for western NC Bluegrass and a home-cooked meal to boot!brbrTransylvania County boasts 250 known waterfalls! Pisgah and Nantalahala National Forest are minutes away and there are many waterfalls and trails in each. Gorges State Park (10 minutes away) has waterfall trails that range from half a mile to 5+ miles. Just 20 minutes away, Whitewater Falls has a quarter mile paved path that gently rises to a spectacular view of the tallest waterfall east of The Rockies. You shouldn’t stop there, though! The stairs to the right lead down to a viewing platform whose view rivals any in the world.brThese are the closest hiking opportunities, however, there are 247 more waterfalls to explore within an hour!brbrShopping is minutes away in either direction. Within a tenth of a mile, there is a lovely market with staples, a good wine/beer selection, and local organic meat, produce, and dairy products.
