Art-filled home, 2 mi to town, Pets ok. Hot tub! Winter special!

Asheville, North Carolina, United States

Winter special: book any three nights January 4 to March 30 and get a free night added the night before or after your booking. Book the three nights and I will reach out about which fourth night you want! (If you llove this house but it's booked for your dates, please see my other large home: TreeTops Lodge at www.vrbo.com/710321 )brbrNow, about the house:brbrWelcome to The Art & Pottery House, an art-filled modern gem on two floors of living space with two separate 3 bedroom homes that share a common deck, patio, fire pit and outdoor space. This is one of the three closest 5-6 BR houses to downtown on VRBO. It's a 3BR, 2BA upstairs unit and 3BR 3BA downstairs unit, always rented together as a 6BR, 5 BA home with an exterior staircase that unites the whole building. brbr6-7 person Hot tub added July 1, 2024. Drained, scrubbed and refilled before each arrival!brbrI bought the house from a well-known local potter/ceramicist, who built the home. To honor his vision, I have maintained the focus on local and regional pottery and art throughout the house, and have not tried to construct an interior staircase.brbrThe upper great room has 13-ft ceilings , with radiant in-floor heat/cooling under gorgeous polished concrete floors. The kilns have been removed downstairs, and I’ve remodeled the sunny lower level into a 3-bedroom, 3-bath space, bringing the property to a total of 6 bedrooms and 5 baths with over 4400 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor living space. brbrThe home is filled with his works and those of many of Asheville's best-known River Arts District potters and artisans. There is information available at the house about the creator of each piece with contact information when available.br brTHE MAGIC OF THE UPSTAIRS (MAIN LEVEL) OF THE ART & POTTERY HOUSEbrbrEven before you enter, you'll be swept up by the outdoor art at House. The giant pot on the front steps was made by River Arts District potter Cayce Kolstad at Odyssey ClayWorks. brbrUpon entering you are greeted by a folk-art pony (made from children's blocks) that I found at Asheville's treasure trove, Antique Tobacco Barn. (To get a real taste for Asheville, spend an afternoon wandering through the gigantic tobacco drying barn on Swannanoa River Road filled with antiques and more!)br brThe living room of The Art & Potter’s House features one-of-a kind armchairs from Italy and a rich, deep couch. At least ten people can gather around the gas-fired fireplace in comfort. Using the cushioned built-in benches near the fireplace, the room can even easily seat 12. Pottery displayed throughout the main room reflects the River Arts District but also pieces I collected in Mexico, China, Slovenia, Crete and Peru. (Don’t worry! The house is very child and pet friendly. The more valuable pieces are well-secured to walls and tabletops, and the others are pretty but replaceable.)br brThe kitchen is huge and includes a bar area that seats four. In the cabinets you will find dinner service and utensils for 16. The drawers are fully stocked with everything you need for in-home cooking. (I do mean everything. You will not find a better stocked kitchen in a vacation rental.)brbrThe dining room table seats 8 comfortably, with easy access around it to reach the French doors that open onto the deck. The deck area includes a four-burner gas BBQ grill and dining table with giant retractable awning and six patio chairs.br brThe three bedrooms of the upper level of the House flow compactly through the space. The large Master Bedroom looks onto the fields around the house. It features a giant king sleigh bed and several craft pieces with local history. The luxurious master bath has an incredible walk-in shower and the bedroom features a private relaxing screened-in porch that faces the sunset. (The walk-in closet contains a twin rollaway bed for use in the Master bedroom if needed.)brbrThe other two bedrooms share a bath. The blue room features a queen bed with a fabric headboard made of Uzbeki tapestries. The green room contains another queen bed. In addition to access from the hall, this room's French doors open onto the great room, but can be closed and curtained when the bedroom is in use. There is enough space in this room to add the twin trundle bed if needed. (It is stored under the queen and rolls out into place.)br brTHE TRANSFORMED LOWER LEVEL POTTER’S WORKSHOPbrbrThe Potter’s Workshop, below and accessible from the back, second driveway, once contained five kilns, a ceramics drying room and several clay washing and prep areas. Because the potter spent most of his day here, he designed it with nine-foot high ceilings and five sets of French doors. I have repurposed his space into another 3-bedroom, 3-bath space. brbrThe art here is mostly from Latin American trips. The two shelves of pottery highlight only local North Carolina potters. brbrThe large country kitchen is also fully stocked for any and all cooking needs (with place settings for another 16), with an island prep area that seats three. The open floor plan encompasses a large seating area and a big dining table that seats ten or more. (The wicker table on the adjacent covered porch can be added to the table to create a seating area for 16 or more.)brbrThe downstairs master bedroom has a king size bed and private bath. Done in dark blues and grays, the room is large but feels warm and cozy – as it should as the former kiln room! Nearby is the smaller queen-bed blue room with its own bath across the hall. Lastly in the back is the festive orange and brown queen bedroom that has its own private door to the outside – and was once the ceramics drying room. The nearby bath (with a huge 7-ft by 3-ft walk in shower – is accessible through the laundry room and serves this bedroom, which also has a futon couch that converts to a twin. (A sofa in the living room also converts to a twin, providing sleeping space in the Workshop for a total of 8.) brbrThis lower unit has a screened porch on the front for evening relaxation, and the 3 sets of French doors on the side open onto a large covered patio with hot tub and expansive open-air flagstone patio with a fire pit and seating for 16. The lower unit has its own BBQ grill as well.brbrThe house looks out on a huge expanse of open grassland behind the house (mostly owned by the neighbors and their very friendly dog who likes to play in it). The row of small bushes in the middle is the property line, and I ask you to stay on my side nearer the house, so the neighbors have some privacy. Be sure to check out the upstairs hall closet for the croquet set, the bocce balls or the volleyball net for outdoor use. The same closet also contains a pack-n-play crib, indoor rainy-day board games, and a child's highchair for infants, if needed, as well as a portable wheelchair ramp for the front step. Downstairs also has these items in the closet in the master bedroom.brbrIn total, the Art & Pottery House and Workshop sleeps 16, eight in each unit, although 12 is more comfortable. The connection between the two units is made by the exterior staircase that unites the upper deck with the lower covered patio. brbrUpstairs, parking is available for three cars on the two parking pads in front. Please pull all the way in so neighbors who share the drive can pass through. Downstairs, parking is available for up to six cars via the gravel drive in the back. brbrThere are two slight steps up to the front door upstairs. There is a portable handicap ramp in the front hall closet for those with mobility issues. While the house is accessible to your visitors with mobility issues, the baths are too tight upstairs for wheelchair access for overnight guests. The lower unit is accessible via the patio without stairs and the larger bath with the walk-in shower is accessible, although the bathroom entry doors are 32 inches wide.brbrEXPLORING THE REGION FROM THE HOUSEbrbrYou are only about a five-minute drive away from the River Arts District, home to one of America’s largest artists’ communities. I know several potters and other artists to whom I will gladly make introductions. (Across the river is the New Belgian Brewery, offering probably the best beer tour in Asheville.)brbrThere are brochures at the house for local inner tube rafting, zip lining, hot air ballooning and more. But there is also info on yoga, massages, pilates, fine dining and golf for the less adventurous. brbrYou are about a ten-minute drive to the famous Grove Park Inn, where every visitor to Asheville should take in the panoramic Smoky Mountain views. Twelve minutes’ drive south takes you right to the front gate of the Biltmore Estate, Asheville’s (and America’s) most stunning single-family home. The downtown art galleries and restaurants are also just about 10 minutes away.brbrThe Art & PotteryHouse is located in Richmond Hills, the neighborhood of Northwestern Asheville, just across the French Broad River from University of North Carolina at Asheville's campus and the turn-of-the-century mansions of the historic Montfort District. brbrIt's a rural part of town, so there are not sidewalks or local cafes, like you would find downtown. But full-house rentals within the City limits are not allowed, so this is one of the very closest options.

The nearby dining room features a massive dining table that can seat 14, hand-made by a local artisan using local sustainably harvested hemlock. Both the high-ceilinged living room and dining room contain art pieces I have acquired over the years, much of which is by local River Arts District weavers, potters, sculptors and oil painters.brbrWhether you cook every meal at home, or just grab a bite in the morning and sample the great local restaurant at night, you'll appreciate the massive kitchen off the living room, with its own six-person breakfast nook, ample granite countertops, two refrigerators, two ovens, two sinks, and state-of-the-art gas appliances.brbrBeyond the kitchen in the south wing is the master bedroom with king bed (and a trundle daybed that sleeps two more), with the largest of the private bathrooms with jacuzzi tub, walk-in shower, double vanity and giant walk-in closet. The Mission-style king bed and daybed in this room were both hand-crafted by a local artisan using locally source Appalachian pine.brbrThe other two large king-bed bedrooms on the main floor are in the north wing. They share one and half baths, including a large marble-lined shower. The plantation-style king in one room is also handmade by the same artisan who build the Mission bed in the Master. The other king headboard is made from two queen headboards that Asheville's historic Grove Park Inn used in the 1920s which were sold to the public in 1976 when the Inn was remodeled. Both rooms also feature local art. There is a additional half-bath off the entryway near the Great Room.brbrDownstairs features a very large family room with regulation-sized pool table, a second small kitchen and bar, an additional two full baths bath -- and the remaining three bedrooms - a queen room that sleeps two, a room with two twin-over-full bunk that sleeps four (or even 6) and the kids' bunkhouse bedroom with two bunk beds for four more. brbrThat adds up to a total sleeping count of 20. brbrThe house, however, is not designed to support 20 adults. The bunks are better used for kids, and I generally prefer to rent to no more than 12 adults. Most of my booking are large extended families coming to Asheville for family events like a wedding or a reunion. I try to be thoughtful of the neighbors, and renting to families keeps the number of cars and noise level in the neighborhood to a minimum. I ask guest to please park in the large driveway and parking pad, not on the main road, as a courtesy to my neighbors.brbrThe house is situated on a steep hill, surrounded by 3.5 acres of forest, out of sight from neighbors. The road to the house and the driveway are NOT steep. But with the hillside falling off quickly below the house, so there is not a lot of yard. The huge deck seems to float among the tree tops, offering shade when you want it, but magical views of far-off mountains. It will be easy to forget that you are less than a mile from Starbucks, fine dining, groceries, breweries and other conveniences. brbrThe house itself is on level ground, with only one step up onto the porch to enter. Once in the house (up that one step), the entire main floor and deck are handicap accessible and wheel-chair friendly. Past guests with elderly or frail parents or grandparents have found the house well-suited to those with limited mobility. There is a portable wheelchair ramp in the hall closet near the front door that can be used for that one front step.brbrI have lived in or visited Asheville on and off for more than 20 years. There is so much to do and see here. If you are planning a trip, book tickets to the Biltmore early. My house has lots of brochures about other local activities, and I can always provide a restaurant idea or two.brbrI hope you will choose to stay at TreeTops Lodge. Regardless of where you choose to stay, and whether you are coming for the art or the beer, please enjoy your time in America's most magical and relaxed mountain town.brbr If you are more than 12 people, I may have to raise the cleaning fee by $100. It can take two people most of a day to clean up after larger groups. If your stay creates a turn where staff only have five hour to prepare the house for the next guests, I will also need to charge an additional $100. I value my cleaning staff and there families, and I compensate my cleaning team ( and landscaping and maintenance people) and at a living wage, well above the minimum. Please join me in supporting our service workers in Asheville's tourist economy!

Green and Serene West Asheville Getaway

Asheville, North Carolina, United States

A lovely private 1 bed/1 full bath apartment with private entrance in West Asheville is available for monthly rentals (30 day minimum). The location is great right in east/west Asheville right in the middle of West Asheville and RAD - River Arts District. It's walkable to restaurants (Taco Billie's, Pizza Mind, WALK, Admiral, Ghan Shan, Early Girl), cafes (Owl Bakery, Hole, and BattleCat coffee), breweries (Archetype, Urban Orchard, and Cellarest) and some shops. (10 min walk, 2 min drive). And 10 min is Carrier Park.brbrThe apt has a fully stocked kitchen (pots, pans, essentials like olive oil etc.) with stove, microwave, French press, coffee maker, full fridge, dishwasher and dining table; a large living room with extra work space in back if needed and a smart TV; full bath; and private bedroom with QUEEN bed and closet space. brbrYou have a green outdoor space, covered porch and bistro table with the sound of birds and squirrels playing. Walkable to many restaurants, cider house, cafes, breweries, and Carrier Park. Serene location, yet close to it all!brbrThe floors are a gorgeous stained concrete with 9 foot high ceilings, non-VOC paint, PVC free shower curtain, all natural Jute throw rugs. The one bedroom can be closed for privacy from the living room/kitchen. You have an Austin Air filter, which is one of the best kinds that also takes care of viruses and bacteria and gives the added benefit of white noise if you need. (but it is very quiet here as it is).brbrLimited laundry (washer and dryer) in the garage which is just off the apt - you just need to coordinate times with me and small space in garage for bikes.brbrI provide you with most everything you need - including soap, shampoo, conditioner, paper towels, cotton balls, Q tips, pens, paper, hand sanitizer etc. upon your arrival to get you going for your month or more stay. I also provide 1 gallon of reverse osmosis filtered water for your stay to get you going until you can get to the store and there is organic coffee and tea (if you need cream, please request this)! Extra blankets in the foot stool.brbrThis is a quiet place with no road noise...only the sounds of birds ! And while it's officially a basement apt, it doesn't feel that way as the ceiling are high and you have windows with great sun. The apt is not underground. On the map, it is the general location of the neighborhood. Upon booking you will receive the address - but it's a wonderful location and very secluded. I live upstairs on the other end of the house and am very quiet and don't use shoes in the house (not heavy footed) and used to being quiet for guests as this has been a successful listing on another site for 6+ years.brbrI am chemically sensitive and have a hard time when I travel due to fragrance and harsh chemicals, which are unnecessarily used in cleaning and laundry. I am happy to offer effective safe cleaning products, like 70% alcohol spray for sanitization and non-toxic products in laundry, cleaning, bath and kitchen proven to target pathogens to cater to those with chemical sensitivities too. I ask that you don't have heavy scents like hairsprays or perfumes etc. while staying here. Essential oils are ok and some of the products I offer have essential oils in them. For totally scent free products during your stay, please just request as I have these too. But for MCS, please inquiry first with me. I also leave hand sanitizers, paper towels and alcohol spray.brbrExtra info: please inquire with me first before booking to see if we are a fit. Also, I block my calendar in 30 day chunks, but if you need a longer stay, that is possible - please inquire.
