Cabin

Welcome to our Rock Creek Fortress of Solitude.

Philipsburg, Montana, United States

Our cabin is nestled in the Sapphire Range of Lolo National Forest about halfway between Philipsburg and the Rock Creek Lodge, 20 miles east of Missoula. brbrIt’s easily accessible year-round, and every season is spectacular in its own way. Winter access is from the Philipsburg side ONLY, as much of the Missoula side is not maintained.brbrThe cabin has 2 bedrooms on the main (2nd) floor, each with a queen bed. The 200 square foot loft has a queen bed and a twin bed. On the ground floor there’s a room with another queen bed and a twin roll-away. The photos make it look larger, but know that the ground floor and second floor are each about 850 square feet. (24’ x 36’). The interior stairs are steep and wide, so if you have small kids, you should know that. brbrThe bathroom on the main floor has a tub/shower, toilet and sink. The bathroom on the ground floor has a shower, toilet and sink. Laundry facilities are on the main floor. brbrThe main floor has a living area with a couch, loveseat a chair, a TV/DVD player, a dining table that seats 6-8, and a fully stocked kitchen. There’s no dishwasher. There is a second kitchen in the garage. The garage is more party zone than garage. There’s a sitting area with 2 couches and a cart converted into an awesome coffee table in the garage. brbrOther features include a 430 square foot deck with a table with room for 6. There’s also a propane fire pit with seating for 4 and 4 other chairs. brbrIn the warmer months, there’s an outdoor shower with on-demand hot water that you just won’t want to leave. brbrA 6-foot fire ring gives you plenty of room to get everyone around the fire. For smaller gatherings, the portable 3-foot fire pit works much better. There’s also a propane fire pit on the deck. There’s a propane grill on the deck for outdoor cooking. brbrPlease note that there’s NO computer, NO WiFi, NO cell service and NO cable TV, but there is a landline. brbrThere is a SiriusXM satellite radio boom box, or you can connect your device to the Bose TV speaker. We also have 30 or so DVD’s along with board games, cards and cribbage boards. brbrLuckily, you’re likely not here to sit inside and look out the window. Rock Creek is famous for excellent fishing. We have Rainbow, Brown, Brook, and Cutthroat Trout. Our cabin isn’t on the creek, but public access is a 3-minute walk upstream. The Wyman trailhead is a quarter mile downstream. It’s popular with anglers, hikers, and it’s a great place to play in the water. Other trails are nearby to offer opportunities for hikers to enjoy the area. brbrIn addition to the fish, you’re also likely to see deer, sheep, eagles, owls, bats at dusk, and moose. If you’re lucky, you might see an elk or a bear. brbrSo bring your raft, drift boat, tubes or kayaks and get in the water! Note that you cannot fish from a boat after June 30, but you can still float the creek. People will tell you otherwise (some of them quite sternly and even aggressively), but they’re misreading the fishing regulations. There’s typically enough water to float until the 2nd or 3rd week of July. With few others floating the creek, you’ll likely have it all to yourself. brbrIf you choose to visit in the colder months, you may enjoy sitting inside the warm cabin watching it snow. Curling up with a book, watching a movie or playing games are great ways to pass the time on cold winter days. During the winter, you’ll only see a handful of vehicles pass in a day. It’s really quiet. brbrPhilipsburg, voted one of America’s Prettiest Painted Places, is a 45 minute drive and features the great Philipsburg Brewing Company, several restaurants, the Sweet Palace Candy Store, Gem Mountain Sapphire Gallery and small town shopping. brbrDiscovery Basin Ski Area is only 45 miles away, (about an hour and fifteen minute drive).brbrThe Skalkaho Road is 18 miles upstream and offers a beautiful but slow drive to Hamilton. Skalkaho Falls is spectacular in the spring. There’s also a sapphire mine where you can find your own stones. The Skalkaho Road is a great place to spend an afternoon. brbrWe’re dog friendly, but please control them as there are other dogs in the neighborhood. brbrFinally, we have a very minimal cleaning fee that almost covers the cost of fuel to drive out there to clean. We ask that guests leave the cabin as they found it.

The Eaglesnest Is A High End Cabin Over Looking Rock Creek.

Philipsburg, Montana, United States

Montana's Rock Creek is a 52 mile long blue ribbon trout stream that parallels the Sapphire Mountains in Southwestern Montana. The terrain ranges from gentle to rugged. If you come you will see snow peaked mountains, vast wilderness, sheer granite cliffs, canyons and most importantly Rock Creek has very cold trout water that house rainbow, cutthroat, brown, white and bull trout. It is a fisherman's paradise. Hunters also come to hunt big game in the fall. My most famous guest was Jim Lovell of Apollo 13 fame. He came hunting in 2013. He liked my cabin and said it beat the moon!brWe recently added a 12x12 sitting room with a wood stove and made our our porch into an all season porch. My guest love it.brRock Creek has been a ranching, mining, and logging community for over 100 years. Gem Mountain is a world famous sapphire mine that is just 5 miles up the road from the cabin. You can try your luck at mining your own sapphires. In the 1800s many Indian tribes and mountain men had their rendezvous right in our canyon. If you are lucky you can still find Indian arrow heads.brbrThe Eaglesnest is a high end cabin that has it all. It has 1500 sq. ft. of comfort, beautiful paintings, high ceilings, fans, log beams and a stone propane fireplace to cozy up to in the winter. The cabin has 1 half king and 3 queen size very comfortable top of the line Simmons Beauty Rest beds with pillow tops. Our couches and chairs are cloth or leather. Our pub table will seat 6 and the chairs are padded. It has a complete kitchen with quartz counter tops and a microwave and dishwasher.brbrThe upstairs has a kitchen, one bedroom, a large bathroom with shower tub combination, a washer and dryer. The living room has a 40 inch T.V, Wi-Fi, and a propane fireplace.brbrThe down stairs has a family room with a 48 inch T.V. with a blue ray DVD player and lots of movies. The downstairs has two queen beds and half a King and one bathroom. The cabin can sleeps 5.brbrThe large covered porch is great to just sit and listen to Rock Creek or to view the wildlife. We have seen grizzly bear, black bear, bobcats, Mountain lions, wolves, elk, moose and lots of whitetail and mule deer. The large covered porch has a dining set so you can eat outside. There is a large propane grill outside to cook with.brbrThe Eaglesnest is located 18 miles southwest of Philipsburg on the Skalkaho Pass or highway 38. We are 1 mile from the famous Ranch at Rock Creek. We are 98 miles from Missoula Airport. We have good paved roads all the way.brbrDiscovery Basin Ski hill is 30 min. from the cabin. Just park as far to left of front of main house facing the fence (so house guests still have room for 1-2 cars). Fence slides open offering a walking path to the cottage. Cottage is attached to east side of garage. Open gate to access covered area off cottage. You will need to walk through the yard (about 80 feet) if you park out front. Also, for safety reasons, please use shovel and ice melt (provided) around cottage as needed during your stay. Thank you! And sorry about the inconvenience.
