Cottage At Nubble Lighthouse - Directly on the water!

York, Maine, United States

You can't stay any closer to The Nubble Lighthouse. Adorable 2 bedroom cottage with a loft. Amazing waterfront view! Wake up every morning and enjoy your coffee right on the water or relax at night with a glass of wine while you watch the waves hit the rocks. There is an ocean view from every room of this cottage. Plenty of yard space to spread out and play. Quick walk to Fox's Restaurant to get some ice cream or catch the Trolley and enjoy the scenic route around town. Here's a little bit about the cottage. The kitchen, living room and dining area are open concept. Converse with family and friends while preparing meals, all the while capturing the sites and sound of the ocean. There are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with an Ikea versatile sleeper. During the day, it can be a great second living area with a couch. At night, it converts to two twins or one king! It is very comfortable in any configuration. The loft is a cozy place for the kids, and can sleep one up there. This charming cottage provides a rare opportunity for the perfect vacation in Maine. The perfect spot to make for a relaxed and comfortable week (or two!) at the seacoast, reminiscent of the way life used to be or as we say in Maine, the way life should be. Come, park and play! The Sohier Cottage is located so close to everything you can literally park the car and leave it for the week while you enjoy walking or take the Trolley to two beaches and downtown York Beach. If you are familiar with the Short Sands area, then you know there is plenty for everyone to do. Of course there is a sandy beach, but also a large modern playground, penny candy, casual and fine dining options and of course, ice cream shops! York Beach is unique in that it offers entertainment for the family that will remind you of yesteryear. York's Wild Kingdom is a small amusement park with a very nice zoo. We have our gazebo near the ocean where you can listen to live music many nights a week plus arcades and bowling. For those of us looking for more mature amusement, there are a few nicely appointed bars within an easy walk where you can sit outside and enjoy a refreshing adult beverage while enjoying the sights and sounds of our beachside town. If you do want some day trip excursions, there is so much to do in our area! Here are some great ideas for family fun: Whale Watching out of York Harbor or Perkins Cove, day trip to Ogunquit to enjoy that 5 mile sandy beach plus great restaurants and shopping or play at one of two public golf courses in York. York Village is robust with colonial history featuring historic museums where you can travel back in time. Perhaps you might enjoy fresh or salt water fishing. There are locals here who will offer deep water fishing or guided kayak excursions. There is scuba diving, tennis courts, paddle boarding and so much more! The Cliff House, located on Shore Road between York and Ogunquit, is a world wide destination with a dramatic $100 million renovation that was recently completed in 2016. Enjoy a relaxing spa treatment or indulge in their gourmet dining. Perhaps live theatre is something you would love to enjoy on your vacation...well, we have it! Check out the Ogunquit Playhouse where nationally known stars are known to perform throughout the summer. Portsmouth, NH (just over the border and about 10 minutes away) also has fine live theatre at the Music Hall. Speaking of Portsmouth, let's not forget this wonderful small city. Always known for being a unique seaside port town, a resurgence has occurred over the last decade making this city a nationally recognized destination vacation spot on its own. Fine dining, live theatre, and unbelievable shopping attracts thousands of visitors each year. Contact us for more details on the Sohier cottage and availability. Whatever you decide to do, enjoy our comfortable cottage as your home base. We will do our absolute best to ensure you love your time here and want to come back year after year.

Stunning Nubble Lighthouse & Ocean Views, 3891 sq. ft. 267' of rocky coast!

York, Maine, United States

Spend warm summer days on the deck, listening to the waves or winter days in front of the fireplace with Nubble Light peaking through the windows. Take postcard photos from a 5 bedroom oceanfront home about 1500 feet from Nubble Lighthouse; a mile to the nearest beach. All of the rooms have ocean views; half of the rooms have a view of the Nubble Light House. From the deck, lower level sunroom, or sunny dining room there are panoramic views from Long Sands Beach to the Nubble Light. On a clear night, you can see four lighthouses(from left to right): Nubble or Cape Neddick Light, Boon Island Lighthouse, the Isle of Shoals, and Whaleback Light. No bedroom is more than 7 steps from a bathroom. There are four queen bedrooms, and one with two twin beds. Watch the dawn strike the Nubble Lighthouse; the rhythmic waves crashing against the rocks; the sea birds, the pleasure, lobster and fishing boats, and kayakers. Explore rocky pools at low tide. The perfect place to relax or to walk. Enjoy the cries of the seagulls and the salt air. There are two 46and a 55 HDTVs, an XBox One X, 5 Sonos wireless speaker units, and a surround sound set, (for hooking up to Internet radio or sync your music with your smart phone, iPad, or iPhone). Enjoy WiFi, and a multifunction printer to print your boarding passes. Free long distance to U.S. and Canada.brWhy stay here For a family gathering or retreat, there are five levels and a .61 acre yard allowing places to be apart or together. There is a separate game/family room for the children, just out of earshot from most of the rest of our home, another living room right by the kitchen and dining area, a deck off of the dining area, and a first floor sunroom for a get away. The Nubble is magical for us at any time of day or year. The leaves in York were stunning again this fall. My sister says that the Christmas lights on the Nubble makes it even more enchanting, as you can see from the picture Michael Blanchette took. The storms can be majestic showing the awesome power of the waves as they roar and spray on the rocks. Each dawn seems different, the dawn mist, the red in the morning, or the break of any day on the Nubble. No matter what you are doing you can enjoy the incredible light as it changes through the day. Some of the sunsets are spectacular, too. On moonlit nights, gazing on the shimmering waves, sometimes I hear 'Clair de Lune' other times, 'Moonlight Sonata' or 'La Mer.' We love the sound and smell of the ocean, and the cries of the seagulls, even as they drop shell fish on the rocks. We hope that you will, too. No weddings or large parties. First booking priority is given to returning guests for the same week(s) in the next year. There are reduced rates from September to May, and three day weekends are available from late October until the end of April. May to September are minimum weekly bookings. br brWe have seen stand up paddle boarders on calm days go out toward the lighthouse. On anything but a really calm day, I wouldn't want to try it. :-)br brOr kayak in the ocean or up the York or Cape Neddick rivers and time your trip with the incoming or outgoing tide.br brThere are many fine restaurants in the area, and some are award winning. brMore things to do: Stonewall Kitchens, which is just about opposite the I-95 exit for York, and it is a lovely place to shop for delicious goodies, have lunch, or just sample and browse until you make up your mind. br brSome people fish off our rocks, or go on a boat to sightsee or to fish.brFor history buffs, there is an old wharf owned by John Hancock, An Old Gaol (jail) which is also a museum, Inns and other historic things such as an old cemetery with death angels on some of the grave stones.brbrThere are three or four golf courses relatively near. One is a top 100 public course.brThere is an outlet complex just over the state line from the NH -- ME border in the next town of Kittery, or go a bit over an hour north to Freeport for their mall and L.L. Bean.. York, has no shortage of art, craft or touristy shops. You can almost always find something to do, and when you can't, Boston is 68 miles away. :-)
