Cottage

Charming Sapphire Blue Owls Head Waterfront Cottage

Owls Head, Maine, United States

Sapphire Blue Cottage on Mahalas Lane with a weekly rental schedule of Saturday to Saturday.brbrMaximum number of guests - eight - with a weekly rental schedule of Saturday to Saturday.brbrLocated in Owls Head, this quaint and unique 1930s cottage is nestled near the end of a private lane. A guest of the cottage, the author, Marianne Cushing, has had published (December 2013) her debut novel, Mahalas Lane (the lane of the cottage and hence our address), which uses the cottage as a point of reference for her investigation-romance work of art. Overlooking Crocketts Beach and Penobscot Bay, Mahalas Lane is serene and relaxing, a true seaside get-away.brbrCrocketts Beach, when the tide is out a bit, is a perfectly sandy beach all the way out into the water. Children, less fragile than adults, do not seem to mind at all the refreshing aspects of the Maine water, and enjoy the swimming without having to negotiate bothersome rocks with their feet. (Adults seem to appreciate this pleasing aspect as well.) brbrCrocketts Beach is especially well-suited for kayaking and provides for a nice ability to explore, by kayak, Little Island (a very small island about 1/4 mile off the beach which you can almost walk to at low tide), nearby Crescent Beach, Ash Island and Sheep Island. There are really only about three other cottages-homes on Crocketts Beach, thus the beach is private and unique in that sense as well. brbrOn the south side of the property line landscape by the beach house, there is a walking path that runs through the trees along the south side of the beach house down to the shoreline that residents of the lane have used and are and have been permitted to use for at least going over the past 86 years. brbrAny other non-guest foot traffic to the shoreline through the cottage property is not permitted. The cottage provides for our guests its own private access to the shoreline from its own private cottage property grounds which run to and meet the shoreline, the perspective of which is captured in the accompanying photographs.brbrThe cottage is architecturally unique, reminiscent of a ship with a bowed front, pristine white ship-lap throughout, a number of small, port-hole windows and a built-in, ship's cabin-like bed.brbrAt the front of the cottage, there is an ample yard and natural gardens surround the house. It is a pleasing space at any time of the day; especially for sitting on the patio for morning coffee and watching the sunrise over the ocean. Then it is also pleasing to stroll down to the ocean-front beach house for an afternoon of reading.brbrThe main house (cottage), approximately 196' from the shoreline, and the beach house, approximately 72' from the shoreline, has three bedrooms which includes two king and two twin Danforth Mission style platform beds from The Bedworks of Maine, a built-in twin-sized bed and, beneath one of the two twin Danforth Mission style platform beds from The Bedworks of Maine, a trundle twin sized bed. brbrThe first upstairs bedroom is an open-space concept with a built-in twin bed that mimics a ship's bunk, a small, port-hole window and two large casement windows that open towards the ocean. Two twin beds, a love-seat sofa and the built-in twin bed described above. This bedroom also provides a trundle twin-sized bed, from The Bedworks of Maine, that is placed beneath one of the two twin beds. brbrThe downstairs and upstairs master bedrooms have Danforth Mission style platform king beds from The Bedworks of Maine and ocean views and adjoining bathrooms.brbrThe well-equipped kitchen has spectacular views of the ocean and opens into the living room and dining room areas, both with ocean views. Windows offer natural light and light sea breezes.brbrThere are two bedrooms upstairs and one full bath. The first bedroom upstairs is an open space bedroom where children and young adults often stay and provides two twin Danforth Mission style platform beds from The Bedworks of Maine, a love-seat sofa and one twin built-in bed that mimics, as mentioned above, a ship's bunk. A twin sized trundle bed is also provided beneath one of the two twin beds. This open space bedroom has a view of the ocean and enjoys ocean breezes and the sound of the ocean striking the shoreline - especially at night when reading a book or falling asleep. brbrThis open space provides the sense of breadth, the flow of both natural light and late-night catching-upwith friends or family, peace, relaxation, wing-span and comfort for the bonding of families and friends. brbrThe second upstairs bedroom, a master bedroom, has a private bath and one Danforth Mission style platform king bed from The Bedworks of Maine with an ocean view with comfortable furnishingsbrbrThere is also a beach cottage on the property, located at the water’s edge. The guest cottage offers a Danforth queen Mission style platform bed from The Bedworks of Maine, as well as a campaign style desk-table, two slipcovered sitting chairs, a state-of-the-art BioLet 65XL composting commode situated in the beach cottage's exterior closet, an under-counter refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster oven, a flat screen television, cable television, Blu-Ray DVD player and Internet WI-FI, a countertop water dispenser and a spacious deck with a panoramic view of the ocean. This is the perfect place to sit and watch the day come to an end.brbrThe location of Mahalas Lane is ideal. Owls Head is home of the Transportation Museum and the Owls Head Lighthouse where Spot, the Springer spaniel, is buried by the lighthouse bell (see the true story of Lighthouse Dog to the Rescue). brbrOwls Head is a small, quiet community just minutes from Rockland (the Farnsworth Art Museum, the Primo Restaurant, In Good Company wine bar, Fiore premium Artisan Olive Oils and Vinegars and Jess's Market for lobsters and fresh seafood - Down East Magazine's readers' choice for best seafood market in Maine). The General Store in Owls Head offers breakfasts, the famous 7-Napkin Burger and is an authentic, old style general store.brbrThomaston, Rockport and Camden are also nearby. Rockport is the setting for the Samoset Resort (the well-appointed La Bella Vita restaurant with a magnificent view of Penobscot Bay, the tranquil, fresh, clean, seaside aesthetic of The Spa and a beautiful seaside, championship golf course) and Maine Sport Outfitters (offering for purchase or rental items for almost any conceivable sporting interest ranging from kayaking, biking and running to camping and winter sports). brbrThese larger cities offer museums, restaurants, shopping, festivals and endless cultural activities. Cape Air flies into (and out of) Owls Head (the Knox County Regional Airport) from Boston (a one hour flight) and other regional locations. Car rentals (Budget) can be made from the Knox County Regional Airport.brbrThe cottage offers a washer and dryer, Bosch dishwasher, hair dryer, hand held clothes steamer, cable television in the cottage and at the beach house and Internet Wi-Fi connection in the cottage and the beach house. The outdoor patio has a Char-Broil 4 burner LP grill.brbrNotes: brbrWeekly rates by month: May, $2,500; June, $2,800; July, $3,200; August, $3,300; September, $3,200; and October, $2,500. brbrCleaning fee: $250 - if more than eight guests - $300. brbrRefundable security deposit: $250.brbrMaine sales tax is .09%. Universally, the service fee associated with a VRBO rental goes to VRBO and not to the property owner. brbrAccess: Access to the cottage is provided by dead bolt lock to the front door and the numeric combination code to pad affixed to the front door is 1717. SCHOONERS LANDING Luxury Oceanfront Home With Lighthouse Views

Owls Head, Maine, United States

Leave the stress of everyday life behind and enjoy the peacefulness of a passing tall masted sailboat, watch the sun rise, feel the ocean breeze and take in all the coast of Maine has to offer. A stay at Schooners Landing will surely make your vacation one of your most memorable. Located on over five private acres with 300 feet of shore frontage in the charming village of Owls Head, just minutes from Camden, Rockport, Rockland, museums, shops, restaurants and lighthouses, our home affords you a perfect destination for a family gathering or a get together of friends. With three levels, everyone can have their own space yet share memories laughing and visiting together. There are water and lighthouse views from every room.brbrWe rent our home only from Saturday to Saturday May 1st through November 1st. After November 1st we can be flexible on requested dates.brbrEnjoy the many summer festivals or come for the 4th of July and sit on the deck and take in the fireworks going off over the harbor! We are blessed with a peaceful and tranquil spot on the water, yet very close to wonderful places to hike, swim, bike, golf, shop, dine, farmer's markets and three major chain grocery stores so you don't need to buy your supplies at the local gas station. :-)brbrThe modern house which was built with characteristic New England charm, is classic shingle-style architecture with much detailed interior woodwork and three stories containing approximately 5,000 square feet of living space with large oversized rooms. Windows and decks take in the spectacular sunrises, passing sail boats, lobster boats pulling up their traps just off the front deck and lighthouses. Rockland harbor to the north is home to the country's largest fleet of tall masted sailing ships and many pass by the house each day. The house sits at the end of a 750 foot long driveway. A small stream runs year round through the property through evergreens and apple trees. The house is private yet not isolated like many Maine homes that force you to take a lengthy drive to shopping, dining or just to get milk. We are also blessed to be on a city water line so water pressure and excellent water quality, which are so often issues at many homes in Maine with well water, are not an issue at our home. brbrYou enter through an antique leaded glass and oak door and as you stand in the large entryway, to your left through double glass doors is the formal dining room with seating for eight with a side door to a pantry area and the kitchen. The library/den is on your right. Straight ahead is the kitchen with a large eating area, granite counter tops, sitting area, smart tv, gas log stove with antique oak mantle, side-by-side refrigerator, dishwasher, five burner Viking gas cooktop, electric oven, KitchenAid mixer, over 50 cookbooks, lighted cabinets with leaded glass doors, microwave, small wine refrigerator, lobster pots, etc. and everything else you need to cook a gourmet meal. The kitchen area looks through curved windows out over the lawn to the water. There is also a six foot round table from Windsor Chairmakers in Lincolnville, Maine with seating for 6. Also straight ahead on the main floor is the living room with an antique marble fireplace, writing desk, two large couches, large binoculars mounted on a tripod, smart TV and sliding doors out to the curved 40 foot wide deck with great views of the Rockland breakwater and lighthouse, Seal Rock, Penobscot Bay and seating for 12. Also on the main floor is the primary bedroom, which opens to the deck. This bedroom has a king size bed, sitting area with upholstered rockers, windows on three sides with wonderful views of the water, two walk in closets and two baths; one with a whirlpool tub, the other with a steam shower. Also on the main floor is the laundry area, the library/den with oak bookcases, desk, printer/fax and a couch to sit back on and look out over the water and enjoy a good book. There are also over 600 books at the house if you enjoy relaxing with a good book. The library cabinets contain over 40 board games, puzzles, etc. brbrThe second floor has two oversize bedrooms and a large sitting area with smart tv, DVD player and book case. Each bedroom has a king bed and a twin bed. Each bedroom also has its own bath with marble floors and oversized marble showers. Both bedrooms and the sitting area have lighthouse and water views. The second floor also has two decks, one with ocean views and one facing west with a seating area perfect for sunbathing in the afternoon or watching the sunsets. brbrThe lower level has a fourth bedroom with a king size four poster bed and built in bookcase with smart television and windows all with water views, a large game room with pool table, Foosball table, antique bar, mini refrigerator, futon, two arcade games, round table for playing cards or doing puzzles, bookcase, electric fireplace, stereo and plenty of windows with water views and a double glass door opening to a stone patio with a swing and plenty of seating. Also in the lower level is our lodge room (a replica of a long cabin living room), an acoustically designed home theater with two levels of seating, a 75 inch smart television and DVD player. We are not in the rental home business. We care about our guests and their experiences and our guests appreciate that we care about their enjoyment.
