We built our home in 2004, cut from over 3 acres of woods in the heart of Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park. It sits 1 mile north of Somes Sound, and is within easy reach of hiking, biking, carriage roads, boat tours, and all of the shopping and restaurants to be found in the several quaint towns on the island. brbrWe created our space to gather and connect with family and friends, and hope that you enjoy it, too. brbrOur home sleeps eight easily. The master bedroom has a king bed and is located on the main floor. Two bedrooms and a full bathroom are on the 2nd floor. The kitchen is fully-appointed to help you create memorable meals; dine inside on our farmhouse table, or eat on the deck. We also maintain a lovely kitchen garden, and welcome guests to pick what they need to round out their meals - it would be a shame for fresh produce to go to waste! After a busy day of adventuring in the park, relax in the deep jacuzzi master tub, or sit by the Solo Stove fire pit and cook S'mores. brWe have Free WiFi high-speed internet with Smart TVs located on the main floor and another in the basement room

There are two small islands to visit for a picnic or a swim, a colony of seals to watch (please try to respect their space and stay back 150 feet) and if your lucky Bald Eagles and Opreys nesting and hunting in the area. Wildlife abounds with eagles, osprey, terns, loons, cormorants and the occasional porpoise over the water and rabbits, deer and once in awhile porcupine or fox visit the property. This side of Mount Desert is often sunny when other parts are fog bound. The water is warmer here and more calm. Guests can share comfortable common areas with family and friends while enjoying the privacy of a bedroom with its own bath. br One half mile away is beautiful Acadia National Park with opportunities for scenic drives, birdwatching, hiking, biking, rock climbing, etc. Three miles from home is downtown Bar Harbor with its myriad of shops and restaurants as well as whale watching and kayaking tours.brbrbrThe house dates back to 1890. It served as the home to the families of pastors of the Episcopalian church in the neighborhood for many years. The mid 1980's brought a damaging fire. The renovations were done with a Bed and breakfast in mind the result of which was 7 ensuite bedrooms. Some of the original wood floors were saved albeit a bit worse for wear. Floor to ceiling windows in the living room and dining room add to the charm. A sprinkling of antiques and many original paintings, many by local Maine artists, adorn the premises.brAfter a busy day enjoying the many area attractions, the comfort of the Twin Gables house awaits you. A comfortable porch with grill and a large backyard lend themselves to cookouts. There is air conditioning available in all the bedrooms as well as the living and dining areas for any hot days you should happen to encounter. There is also Lakewood a short drive away family friendly and perfect for a refreshing dip. Note: Lakewood is in Acadia and you need to display your park pass in your car while you park there.brbrFrom the house, at low tide, it is possible to access an expanse of rocky beach which also leads to the popular Chart Room Restaurant - open for lunch and dinner. Just a little further lies the Hulls Cove General Store plus the local post office. The Hulls Cove Visitors Center is just a bit beyond that. It is possible to leave your vehicle behind in our ample parking lot and take the free shuttle bus into Bar Harbor and around Acadia National Park from approximately June 21 until Columbus Day weekend. If you bring bikes you can leave right from the house and get to the park roads and carriage roads from the visitors center. VR124-019

The Shore path and ocean are a block away. We are a 5 minute car ride into several of the Acadia National Park Entrances. Sand Beach is 5 minutes away. The fresh water swimming lakes are 20 minutes away. The YMCA is 5 minutes away. The Island explorer transit bus system is less than a block away. The back yard is good sized with southern exposure. There is a large deck that overlooks a sunny 3-acre field, with lots of wildlife viewings. There is a also a side patio with a fire pit for outdoor gatherings as well. This house has it all! We have recently renovated this house with all new electrical and fixtures, modern appliances, and new furnishings. There is a desk in the large bedroom upstairs for those who need to work remotely while visiting. brbrThere is a trail at the back of field through the woods and a 15 minute walk to Hadley Point Beach.brQuiet Hours: 10pm - 8am to ensure a peaceful environment for all guests.brbrTrash/Recycling: Please place all trash in sealed bags and dispose in dumpster.
