Through sliding glass doors to a back deck, lawn and firepit then acres and acres of upstate wilderness.brbrThe spacebrbrLandmarked barn built in 1780 (the Claverack Ice Barn) sitting on 38 verdant acres of upstate Hudson Valley land. This exceptional three level property is newly renovated permitting guests to make use of its modern kitchen, 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and large open interior spaces that feature special zones like a working piano in the dining room, a secret bar in the great room a massive full floor library, a cozy media room with its own fireplace and a tucked in coffee/tea nook off the kitchen.brbrThroughout - the epic height of the place (ceilings to 35 feet) is apparent and the owners have spared no expense in modernizing this home while maintaining its almost 250 year old authenticity. Exposed beams abound - most hand hewn with axe marks readily evident, some from barely notched natural logs giving the entire structure a rustic earthiness that only time and hand crafting can achieve. Fixtures and furnishings display a stylish blend of local antique, mid-century Scandinavian and Hollywood regency maximalism design to make each room, each environment uniquely special.brbrAmenities are listed but include all that a sophisticated traveler would expect including chefs grade kitchen tools and appliances, complementary spice rack, espresso pods, local whiskey, toiletries and fine bed linens and towels. Tesla charging station in the long private driveway, strong WiFi throughout the house, moving Alexa screen near kitchen for voice command, music and recipes and a large smart TV in the theater for movies, sports and gaming. The library contains over a thousand books many of them antique and some first editions. Feel free to select and borrow any of them (reading spots are sprinkled throughout the house and we encourage you to use them) but please return any books you borrow.brbrThe sitting of the property is equally special and brings you in close communication with nature. It’s a place to slow down and unwind. We get regular visits from our forest friends - deer, rabbits, squirrels abound - and the birding is quite amazing with multiple species making regular visits to our grounds including the families of mallards that frequent the nearest pond on the property.brbrHudson is an amazing draw, a perfect nucleolus for your adventures and easy to reach by several modes of transportation (including conveniently train). Our detailed guide book has hyper local recommendations on farm stands, culinary hot spots, antiquing, the art scene and outdoor activities. The Berkshires and Catskills are right here so all the benefits of these vibrant areas with four season calendars of events is yours to enjoy and our guidebook will help you sort through it all.brbrThe property is quiet and removed. The lawn is great for a picnic or game of catch and the fire pit has a nice view of the pond and trickling stream. The vast majority of the 38 acres are natural. Feel free to explore (you likely wont be able to hike to the other side where our property ends at the old abandoned rail tracks between us and a 200 acre local farm) but please be mindful of the wilderness and your surroundings if you do so. Let us know if you find anything of interest! We will be clearing trails on the land in the years to come.brbrGuest accessbrbrYou will have the entire place to yourselves. The only areas off limits are the two third floor lofts (one is an office and the other is additional sleeping chamber with two twin beds.) These lofts are only reachable by built in stairs and we’ve deemed them too dangerous for our guests. Also the unfinished side of the barn is off limits , we use it mainly as storage of personal items. brbrOther things to notebrbrWe are proud of our house and the things in it. Should anything break or be damaged during your stay please let us know so we can have it replaced if possible. If you have any questions about items in the house, where we got it, what it’s provenance is, please let us know. We may be able to get you in touch with the vendor or maker and make both you and them happy.brbrSome other points of importance (and sorry if any of this sounds harsh - but remember we love this house and live in it too as a family with children.)brbrWe do not permit smoking or vaping in the house. We will need to remove the smell of any smoking or vaping from the house. Any violation of this rule will result in a fine of $3,000 plus the costs of removing the smell.brbrWe do not permit parties or groups larger than the group you have booked for to be in the house. Any violation of this rule will result in immediate eviction, no refund and a fine for damages.brbrWe do not permit pets in the house. If you bring a pet without permission you will be subject to a $1,000 fine per pet plus fee for any deep cleaning or damage caused by your pet.

Complimentary farm fresh organic eggs available upon request when available (courtesy of a few rescued hens residing in main house at back of property).brbrPlease be advised: this is a lovely rural farm area, there are properties in the neighborhood with dogs, cats, donkeys, wild bunnies, chickens, ducks, and lots of bustling wildlife (please do not feed or attempt dance routines with local wildlife should you be lucky enough to meet them!) and birds. While the area is generally very quiet, you may hear critter thoughts and opinions, or neighboring dogs discussing the weather, from time to time. brbrThe spacebrGuests can use entire cottage (3 Bedrooms, Living Room with Eat-In-Kitchen, full Bathroom all on one floor), along with the surrounding manicured yard. brbrJust off Rt 9 (Fairview Ave), near Stockport Garage (on Rt 9, Stotville), Fox Cottage is close to many area attractions, shops, and dining. It also includes the living room with a fireplace and TV. A dining room with seating for eight, a full kitchen, equipped with all of your dining and cooking essentials and stainless steel appliances. A sunroom with seating for relaxation and enjoyment. The sweeping Hudson Valley views can be enjoyed from the main house as well as the newly constructed 1100 square foot, 2-bedroom guest house. A gunite in-ground heated pool is situated beside the blue stone patio, the perfect spot for entertaining (seasonal). Both kitchens, dining areas and livings spaces are on the main floor while all bedrooms are on a second level, accessed by a single staircase.
