Private Vacation Home
3br Wine Country Retreat
Santa Rosa, California, United States
A blend of mid-century modern, farm-house, and a touch of the South-West on 1.3 acres in a quiet, rural. neighborhood. brbrThe great room is 2 walls of mostly glass that open onto extensive decks, with expansive views. The south end of the great room is a modern, fully equipped kitchen including a 10' x 4' island perfect for preparing meals with friends and family. The 10' long dining table seats 8 - 10 comfortably. Comfy chairs and a sectional fill the north end of the room. brbrThe great room is surrounded by a family/TV room and 3 bedrooms, each with its own bath. Two of the bedrooms have 9' sliding glass doors that open directly onto the deck and views of the surrounding rolling hills and vineyards. The third is perfect for the person who wants to pull down the shade and miss the sunrise. brbrIn the garden is a bocce ball court, horseshoe throw, swing set, sandbox, and available is a cornhole set and Jenga game.brbrBegin the day sipping your tea or coffee and watching the sunrise. End the day with dinner and a glass of local wine while watching the sky turn pink. I recommend doing it all from one of the outdoor decks. Wear a fleece jacket for the winter, a light sweater, or go sleeveless in the summer.brbrYou may notice that our reviews took a break in October of 2017. That was when the Santa Rosa Tubbs fire took 22 lives, 36,810 acres, and 5,643 structures. We survived unharmed but all that remained of the house were a few shards of pottery and ironwork. It was shocking, frightening, and painfully sad but there is comfort in numbers and together, thousands of us cried, hugged, supported, sympathized, agonized, and helped one another.brbrNow, 5 years later, there are silver linings. The once dense forest has become expansive views, our 1970s ranch house is replaced by a home that is cleaner, more modern, more open, more environmentally efficient, and far more fire-resistant. It is all-electric, solar, will soon use gray water in the garden, more conducive to an indoor-outdoor lifestyle, The garden, and the furnishings are continuing to recover and evolve, but the house is complete and finally, I can once again relax and feel restored here. I hope you will feel the same. I periodically peak in or spend a little time in my studio-nest on the rooftop but I generally try to leave the house when guests/renters visit.brbrVENTURING OUT: We are a 10-25 minute drive to Healdsburg, Forestville, and downtown Santa Rosa, Calistoga, and more wineries than you can possibly explore in a mere week. For outdoor pursuits, there is hiking in Annadel State Park, Hood Mountain, Shiloh Ranch Reserve, etc, or head down to the Russian River for kayaking, canoeing, swimming, and enjoying the small towns and restaurants on its banks. You might also find yourself content to relax at home and explore our neighborhood on foot. If you feel a hankering for the ocean, we are a 40-minute drive to the coast at Jenner or Tomales Bay.brbrThis is a cyclist's paradise. Options include anything from a relaxed bike ride through local vineyards to a long, rigorous but spectacularly beautiful century. Check online and consider joining one of the many organized rides hosted by local bike and/or culinary clubs. There is also a collection of bike route maps available at the house. Or ask me! :-)
