Located on a narrow sandspit, your days will be enhanced by passing sailboats, gulls and cranes dining on the beach just 20 feet from your living room, or sea lions and orcas swimming by in the cool waters.brbrThis historic cottage was one of three originally built back in 1941 as a shack to store fishing nets. Almost all of the materials used in its construction likely came from the supply of discarded packing crates at the naval shipyard in nearby Bremerton where work was being done to support the war effort. Everything here is original, there are no frills. This is a perfect place to relax, read, write, draw, or take relaxing walks through the neighborhood or along the beach out front where you can collect shells, toss footballs, build sand castles, or just marvel at the many sights.brbrThis truly distinctive home is comfortable and rather unique, not only in its origins, but also its furnishings which are mainly antiques from the 1940s and 1950s from designers such as George Nelson, Charles and Rae Eames, and Alvo Aalto.brbrWhen you want to get out and explore, a corner coffee shop is just minutes away, while the charming main street is just a bit farther with a grocery store, restaurants, clothing stores, and a bookshop. Dining room table seats 10 comfortably, cooks kitchen with breakfast bar (4 stools), large window seat with views of the water Mt. Rainier, marine traffic, and beach. New large deck with comfortable seating, gas BBQ on covered portion of deck. 2 TV's, Wireless internet, all linens provided. Keurig coffee machine, all amenities needed to cook and entertain. New Upgrades April 2025 - Hot tub, home theater & design refresh! Just a 9 minute walk to Pritchard Beach & 10 minute drive to downtown Winslow. Lots of natural light and spacious rooms for your family - including your pup. brbrWe bought this home more than 20 years ago when we were just kids and Mark got a job as a naturalist at IslandWood, the environmental education center on the island. Over the years, we have put a lot of love into it and are continually working to provide the most comfortable, relaxing stay we can for you.brbrWhile we have made many upgrades, like the new hot tub and home theater added in 2025, it is not Bainbridge Perfect, nor would we ever want it to be. We want it to be a nice, large, home-away-from-home where you feel comfortable letting your kids and dogs run around, and you can enjoy the sounds of birds in the morning and the quiet footsteps of deer in the yard. In other words, we want it to be the kind of place WE would want to stay with our family and our husky. brbrWhen there is sunlight here in the northwest, it will stream in the big windows in the comfortable living room. A fully-stocked kitchen connected to the dining room/sitting area makes entertaining easy and enjoyable. The living room opens to a back deck with a grill and table, and stairs descend into the 1 acre yard for the ultimate in indoor/outdoor living. Three bedrooms and the bathroom complete the upstairs space. brbrThe SEMI-FINISHED BASEMENT is a kids dream with a full rec room featuring a foosball table, cozy couches and a 100 pull-down screen and projector (bring a laptop with an HDMI port to take full advantage of it). The fourth and fifth bedrooms, second bath, and a full size washer/dryer complete the downstairs. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE BASEMENT BEDROOMS ARE IN THE BASEMENT AND ARE, AS A RESULT, NOT AS LIGHT AND AIRY AS THE UPSTAIRS BEDROOMS. They are comfortable and functional, and we have tried to set appropriate expectations, but some people still seem to be surprised.brbrYou are minutes from the beach at Pritchard Park, as well as multiple open-space trails. brbrHot tub:br* The hot tub is cleaned every Tuesday. The technician will go directly to the back yard and is usually finished within about 15 minutes.br* To adjust the temperature, press the up or down arrow.brbrLawn maintenance:brThe landscapers will mow the lawn and clear the walkways every other week.
