Secluded Cabin Overlooking Fontana Lake & Smoky Mtns NP

Robbinsville, North Carolina, United States

This 3500 square-foot, secluded cabin is ideal for your family getaway or a retreat with that someone special or as a home base for riding or driving the famous roads of Western North Carolina.brbrFontana Cabin is located in Graham County, North Carolina, at the very end of a winding gravel road that takes you through a tunnel of trees before revealing a distinctive house perched on top of a bluff above Fontana Lake. The approach into the Cabin is through the main deck, where you will have a hard time resisting the pull of the breathtaking view of crystal-clear Lake Fontana and the layered Smoky Mountains behind it. brbrOn all sides of the Cabin, you are surrounded by either our 4.5-acre property or Public Lands, so all you see looking outside of the Cabin is Southern Appalachian deciduous forest. The view from the deck, where you will want to take your coffee as well as all your meals and your naps, changes hourly, daily, and seasonally, calling you to leave your cares behind as you tune into the rhythm of Nature. brbrInside, you will find 5 separate bedrooms and 4 bathrooms that will provide your group the space, comfort, and flexibility it needs to make the place your temporary home. The house was built in 1968 and has been updated over the years to balance the best of its vintage and contemporary features, including most recently with a full-scale update of the Cabin decor, linens, kitchenware, and other amenities in September, 2021, a few months after we bought the place in July 2021, and ongoing updates since then, including upgrading our satellite internet in March 2024, putting on a new roof in July 2024 and a new driveway in 2025. brbrThe kitchen is fully equipped with a farmhouse table that seats six, with a second table for 6 outside on the covered porch if you want to eat outside or if you have a large group. Like the table, almost all of the wood furnishings in the house are unique--handmade from re-purposed and re-finished salvaged wood from old buildings in the region. brbrGiven our remote location, we have satellite Internet instead of wired broadband, but we have enough WiFi capability throughout the house for ordinary computing and streaming--as well as zooms if you need to stay connected to work while you are here. Our cell phone booster in the house makes cell service strong even though it is weak on the road up to the Cabin. brbrOur LAKE VIEW is awesome, but there is NO DIRECT ACCESS TO THE LAKE from our property. Fontana Lake is a 29 mile-long crystal clear lake that has more than 240 miles of almost totally undeveloped shoreline. More than 90 percent of the land around the lake is owned by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Nantahala National Forest, or the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), so development has been kept to a minimum (including near our place, where the Forest Service and TVA own the bottom half of the 200-foot steep mountainside between the Cabin and the lake). brbrThe good news is that the lake is surrounded by forest and provides an inspiring backdrop to every part of your stay at the Cabin, but the less good news is that you have to leave the property to get to the lake itself. If you do want to access the lake to fish, boat, kayak, or canoe, there are a number of boat launches and marinas on the south side of the lake where we are located, including the public boat launch at the Cable Cove National Forest Recreation Area 15 minutes from the Cabin, and the full-service marina at the Fontana Village Marina, right at the Fontana Dam, 25 minutes from the Cabin. brbrPlease also know that if you are hauling a trailer or driving an RV, we have plenty of parking at the Cabin and just restructured and resurfaced the driveway in 2025, but the road and driveway into the place are winding and steep in spots. It's fine for cars, but not suitable for long trailers or long vehicles over 20 feet, so if that sounds like you, it's best to inquire with us before booking.brbrWhether you are seeking hiking, biking, boating, fishing, scenic driving, nature photography, motorcycling, whitewater rafting, or vacationing, you will find a full array of natural destinations, quaint shops and the rich history of North Carolina's most remote county within minutes of the Cabin.brbrSmoky Mountain National Park - 45 minutes to Park Entrance from CabinbrYou can see the Southern edge of the park just across the Lake from the Cabin, and can access it via the water if you are boating, but the driving entrance is just North of Bryson City and Cherokee.brbrThe Dragon - 35 minutes from Cabin to Deal's GapbrStarting at Deal's Gap at the Tennessee/North Carolina state line and featuring 318 curves in just 11 miles, the Dragon is considered by many to be one of the world's best motorcycling and sports car roads. Anyone looking for an exciting highway adventure--whether you are a rider or a driver--will enjoy this famous stretch of US 129. Even better, the road to there from our place is another great drive, called Moonshiner 28. Combine it with Foothills Parkway in TN and the Smoky NP Park road, and locals call that loop Hillbilly Heaven.brbrBlue Ridge Parkway - 45 minutes to the Southern Terminus from CabinbrExperience this world famous Parkway, including the Parkway's highest point, which is 1.5 hours away from the Cabin, just south of Waynesville. brbrCherohala Skyway - 45 minutes to Eastern Terminus from CabinbrThis is a less traveled mountaintop scenic highway with views and curves that rival the North Carolina portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway.brbrWhitewater Adventures - 30 minutes from CabinbrThe western North Carolina mountains offer some of the best whitewater rafting/paddling rivers on the East Coast. Nantahala River's Class I, II, and III rapids and renowned providers such as the Nantahala Outdoor Center provide the perfect place for the entire family to have a taste of this exciting sport. If you are hardcore, the Cheoah River has Class IV and V rapids during scheduled release dates. If tube-floating is more your style, there are multiple outfitters in nearby Bryson City.brbrAppalachian Trail - access 25 minutes from the CabinbrThe renowned Trail that bisects the entire East Coast goes through our area, actually crossing over Fontana Dam itself before heading into the Smoky Mountains National Park to the north and into Nantahala National Forest to the south.

Private Dock On Fontana Lake, Kayak, Swim, Pet-Friendly

Robbinsville, North Carolina, United States

Picture this: it’s early morning, and you’re sitting in a rocking chair on the wraparound deck, a cup of coffee warming your hands, watching mist lift off the emerald-green surface of Fontana Lake. The mountains are still soft and blue in the distance. Behind you, through the French doors, someone’s already puttering in the kitchen. Down the stone path through the trees, your private dock waits — and for the next few days, none of you have anywhere else to be.brbrFontana Lake Cottage is a charming gray-blue lakefront cottage tucked into the forest along the shores of Fontana Lake in Robbinsville, North Carolina — deep in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains. It was made for the kind of trip you’ve been meaning to plan: the one where Mom and Dad finally get the grandkids for a long weekend, or where two couples who’ve been saying “we should get away together” actually do it, or where three generations gather around one table and nobody has to sleep on an air mattress.brbrThe main cottage is warm and inviting, with an open-plan living and dining area anchored by a wood-burning fireplace that makes cool mountain evenings feel like a gift. Large windows flood the space with natural light and frame views of the surrounding forest. The sunroom — with its Adirondack chairs and French doors that open to the deck — becomes the spot everyone gravitates to, whether it’s for morning coffee, afternoon reading, or watching the kids play in the yard.brbrUpstairs you’ll find comfortable bedrooms with real beds and thoughtful touches. But the real magic of this property is the private mother-in-law suite — a separate space with its own kitchen, sitting area, bathroom, and sleeping quarters with vaulted wood-paneled ceilings. Grandparents get their own retreat with privacy and independence. A second couple gets breathing room. Teenagers get a domain of their own. However your group is shaped, having that separate space transforms a vacation from “fun but exhausting” to “we should do this every year.”brbrStep outside and the property unfolds. The multi-level deck wraps around the cottage, with a covered grill area for cookouts and rocking chairs positioned just right for sunset watching. Follow the fire pit trail into the trees for evening s’mores under a canopy of stars. And then there’s the lake — walk the stone path down through the forest to your private covered dock on Fontana Lake, where the water glows green against a backdrop of mountain ridgelines. Fish, swim, kayak, or just sit and let the quiet wash over you.brbrFrom the air, the property tells the whole story: a cozy cottage with its own dock, completely enveloped by lush mountain forest, sitting right on one of the most beautiful lakes in the Smokies. It’s private. It’s secluded. And it’s yours.brbrBack inside, you have everything you need: a full kitchen, washer and dryer, modern bathrooms, and enough space that nine people can spread out without stepping on each other — and then come back together whenever they want.brbrSome places are just a house in a nice spot. This one feels like it’s been waiting for your family to arrive.

Cabin

Loved by Guests

Robbinsville, North Carolina, United States

At Emory Lodge you will enjoy the magnificent mountain views of western North Carolina's National Forest. The cabin was built in 1982, and was an operating trout farm until 2002. There was a second cabin built on the property in 1985 and attached to the existing cabin by a large deck. This is the cabin we occupy when we are able to come up from Atlanta. We purchased the property in 2006 and started renovations the following year. We began offering the original cabin as a vacation rental in the fall of 2012. The total square footage of the cabin is 2200 sq. ft. The lodge has a large yard with West Buffalo Creek running through the middle of it. We have about 600 ft. of creek on the property. Trout fish right off the deck!brThe area has several trout streams... stocked and native. Miles of well maintained hiking trails with magnificent views. Lake Santeetlah is only about 6 miles from the lodge, as is the Cherohala skyway and Joyce Kilmer national forest. brIf seclusion, hiking, mountain streams and waterfalls, trout fishing, great mountain views, and relaxing is what you are looking for, this is the place. If you need to stay in touch with the rest of the world, we now have high-speed starlink internet.brPlease be aware, the final 1.5 miles of road approaching the lodge is private gravel/dirt. It is very rocky and can be muddy after a rain. We suggest vehicles with medium to high ground clearance. If you are planning to ride street bikes, this is likely not for you.

Cozy Cabin on Lake Santeetlah in the Smoky Mountains

Robbinsville, North Carolina, United States

Our cozy cabin on Lake Santeetlah is great for a couple or couple with one child to relax and unwind. PLEASE NOTE - LIMITED OCCUPANCY. Lake Santeetlah is located in Graham County, just south of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and in the Nantahala National Forest. Lake Santeetlah is a pristine and clear 3000 acre lake with a 1939 foot lake elevation, with an average depth of 56 feet and a maximum of 213’. About 80% of the lake shoreline is national park, with only 20% developed.brbrThe Cabin has 2 bedrooms, living room, single bath, screened in porch, decks and a private dock. The first bedroom has a queen sized bed (sleeps 2) and the second bedroom has a twin bed (sleeps 1). The cabin is newly renovated with a new kitchen and bath. The first bedroom has a queen bed with great views of the lake. The second bedroom has a twin bed. Dinner on the screened in porch, followed by a board or card game is a great way to end the day after a long day in the lake swimming, tubing, boating or playing. brbrThere is a canoe available on the property and two kayaks, along with a few noodles and other lake toys. The lake is deep and clear. You can see the fish swimming around the dock! Bring your own boat and launch it at the public boat ramp or rent a boat at the local Marina. The water at our dock is very deep and will allow almost any size boat to be docked there. There is fresh water fishing in the lake, with all different types of bass: largemouth, smallmouth, spotted, white and striped bass. Walleye, catfish and crappie are also caught on the lake. Fly fishing for trout is just off the lake in the creeks leading to the lake, with Buffalo Creek, Big Snowbird Creek and Yellow Creek local favorite places. Some rivers are hatchery supported and some only have wild trout.brbrThe area around the cabin has a lot to offer to explore or for a rainy day. Cherokee is about 1 hour north on Hwy 74/441. Scenic train rides take you around the mountains starting in Bryson City. Tsali Recreation Area is nationally known for its mountain bike rides, with 42 miles of trails. Closer to home, the famous Tail of the Dragon starts just outside of Town, along with Moonshiner Highway (Rt 28) and the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest has trees so large it takes a group of people to put their arms all the way around a single tree. The Appalachian Trail is just 8 miles from Lake Santeetlah along with other shorter hikes to waterfalls and beautiful creeks. And yes, there are bears in the area, so be aware! There is also white water rafting on the Nantahala River or the Little Tennessee River just outside of Town. Fontana Dam is a site to see - the tallest dam east of the Mississippi. brbrCome, enjoy your stay, relax, have fun and make memories!brbr(*Please note that occupancy is limited. Visitors of guests must be pre-approved. NO parties or family reunions. We are not trying to be mean-spirited, but our house is on a septic system which is based on the number of people in the house.
