Meal preparation takes place in a large, well-stocked kitchen that features contemporary appliances, a work island, and a breakfast nook. The dining room offers seating around an expandable table and you will find a bedroom with a king bed just down the hall on the main level. Adjacent to this master bedroom is a bathroom with shower as well as an office/den equipped with a convertible sofa that is suitable for a child or extra guest. For flexibility, there is a door that enables you to enclose these three rooms into a private suite. A laundry room with extra toilet and sink are also located just off the kitchen on the main level.brbrUpstairs, overlooking the living room, is a loft with a sectional sofa and TV for watching television or movies. The loft separates two upper bedroom wings. One wing contains a bathroom with tub/shower and bedroom large enough to contain both a queen sized bed and twin/trundle which opens into a king size bed. It is a great space for watching summer boat traffic travel up West Sound to the marina.brbrA windowed foyer highlights the entry, as does a grand piano. There is a large living/dining room with an open hearth rock fireplace and floor to ceiling windows that bring the outside in. High ceilings and clerestory windows add wonderful volume to the dramatic architecture of the rooms.brbrThere is plenty of space for entertaining in this home. The large kitchen has a great layout with high end appliances and cookware, and it adjoins a family room with another rock fireplace and a breakfast/game table. There is also a back entrance mudroom/laundry and convenience bath.brbrYou will go up a half flight of stairs to the master bedroom with a king bed and luxurious chocolate marble bath with a view. A private peaceful getaway in the middle of a 5 acre historic orchard from 1895.

Our location is private and peaceful, yet close to all the amenities of the main village of Eastsound. The property lies at the base of Buck Mtn., and is one of the original homesteads on the island. Our orchard is one of the few surviving from 1895 - most of the apple and pear trees (30+) are still robust producers! The original foundation is just behind the garden. The cottage was finished in 2016 by Orcas locals, using local wood. The heat is radiant in-floor- we appreciate the quiet and convenience of it . We also took care to provide appliances: full size refrigerator; full size oven w/ stovetop; full size washer dryer; dishwasher. For babies: high chair and Graco Pack n Play. Bathroom amenities include: towels, TP, hair dryer, liquid shampoo and conditioner. The beds (queen downstairs and king upstairs) are very comfy. Extra sheets, throws and blankets are stored in the downstairs bedroom closet. There is a picnic table for you to enjoy eating in the orchard, a porch to hang out and watch the deer graze; outdoor rockers and lounging chairs, and a bbq. There are games and badminton games in the outdoor storage bin next to the cottage: bocce ball, corn hole, etc. Wireless internet is also available, as well as a TV for streaming. We have lived on Orcas for over 30 years (my husband, Jim, even longer) and raised our two kids here. We look forward to hosting you at The Cottage in the Orchard, happy to share our knowledge of our community! We have an active vr permit with San Juan County.
