Camp Roosevelt on Lake Champlain

Shelburne, Vermont, United States

Camp Roosevelt: A Century of MemoriesbrCottage on Lake Champlain over 100 years old and intentionally kept without modern frills, preserving its nostalgic charm and historical decor.brIn the quiet town of Burlington, on a cold January 7th, 1919, Raymond Roosevelt Unsworth was born into a world brimming with change. The day before his birth, the nation mourned the loss of Theodore Roosevelt, the larger-than-life former president. In tribute, Raymond’s parents named him after the great man, and when plans for a summer cottage in Shelburne were drawn up, it was only fitting that it be called Camp Roosevelt.brThat summer, as the final touches were put on the simple two-story structure nestled by Lake Champlain, baby Raymond took his first dip in its cool waters. This would be the start of a lifelong love affair with the lake, its shimmering surface a constant companion throughout his life. Back then, Shelburne was a sleepy agricultural town, and the camps dotting what would later be known as Twilight Bay were humble, summer-only escapes from the heat of the city.brCamp Roosevelt was no different—a modest, boxy building without insulation, foundation, or the modern conveniences we take for granted today. But it had something far more precious: a cold, clear stream of water piped in from the lake, and a view that could soothe the soul. Over the years, small additions and upgrades were made, as the camp was passed down through the family, each generation adding their own touch to this cherished retreat.brAs time marched on, the camp evolved, reflecting the growth of the family that loved it so dearly. In 2003, the camp underwent a major transformation. The old additions were removed, the house was lifted, and a solid foundation was laid underneath. A three-level addition was constructed on the north side, the floor plan was reimagined, and the entire camp was winterized, making it a year-round haven. Yet, in a nod to its storied past, the south side—home to the living room—retained the original woodwork from 1919, a tangible connection to the camp's beginnings. brToday, Camp Roosevelt remains in the family and is more than just a house; it’s a repository of family history, where laughter and love have echoed through the years. It has been the setting for three weddings—each a testament to the enduring love that the camp nurtures. The decor is a loving homage to the past, with vintage furnishings, weathered wood, and family heirlooms that tell stories of days gone by.brCountless birthdays and anniversaries have been celebrated here, each one adding another layer to the rich tapestry of memories that make Camp Roosevelt so special. As guests arrive, they are welcomed not just into a house, but into a legacy, a place where the past and present intertwine, and where the beauty of Lake Champlain continues to inspire all who visit.brWe hope that those who stay at Camp Roosevelt will create their own cherished memories, adding their stories to the long history of love, laughter, and togetherness that has defined this special place for over a century.br The dock is not part of this property and not safe to use. There are no kayaks or canoes or paddle boards for guest use.brbrCheck- in instructions are sent via email from SkyRun 2 days prior to arrival.

Private Vacation Home

176-acre private estate and historic farmhouse on the shores of Lake Champlain

Shelburne, Vermont, United States

High Acres Farm offers one of the most magical and restorative environments in New England — an atmosphere of peace and possibility, where guests can enjoy each other’s company in the presence of nature.brbrThe historic Main House at High Acres Farm was built in 1952 and completely restored and modernized in 2017. It is now a beautiful contemporary gathering place, featuring eight private bedroom suites, a state-of-the-art farmhouse kitchen, a yoga loft, play spaces for kids, and elegant common areas filled with old family heirlooms that have traveled through our family for generations.brbrOur 176-acre estate is perched along the eastern shores of Lake Champlain, looking out across the water at the Adirondack Mountains of New York. The landscape is a mix of gardens, fields, forests, streams, a pond, and a private beach. A network of informal walking trails provides easy access to different parts of the land.brbrThe historic Main House has eight private bedrooms (two on the first floor, six on the second), seven of which have their own attached bathrooms (the eighth bedroom's bathroom is just outside its door). The beautiful farmhouse kitchen has a large island, an eight-burner stove, a double oven, and a pantry with a second fridge.brbrThe downstairs floor plan is open and flowing, leading into an elegant living room with a fireplace and a wood stove, comfy sofas and chairs, and a majestic ten-foot farmhouse table, which can easily sit ten or more people for festive family meals.brbrOther common spaces in the house include a bright sun porch, which is wonderful in the summer when the wind blows off the lake, a library with a TV and full cable service, a formal entry hall with a Steinway grand piano and a spiral staircase, an informal mudroom, and two water closets, one of which is ADA compliant.brbrThe house is outfitted with central air conditioning (if the breeze off the lake in the summer does not cool you down enough), and high-speed wireless internet throughout.brbrOne of the bedrooms on the first floor is ADA compliant, in case there is someone in your group who needs a little more space — its doors are wider and its bathroom is equipped with grab bars.brbrThe basement is mostly finished, and includes a laundry room with two washers and dryers, and a game-room with ping-pong, air hockey, pool table, a piano, a second TV, a rowing machine, and a treadmill.brbrThe attic provides a flexible space for a wide variety of activities, ranging from yoga and movement, to kids' dance parties, to sleepovers. Rooms can be arranged with cribs prior to arrival if there are any babies in your party, and the house also has a high chair and a pack 'n play if needed.brbrOutdoor amenities include a barbecue porch and an outdoor sink, a large stone patio with ample seating for outdoor gatherings, an in-ground pool with a surrounding fence for child safety, a tennis court, and the lovingly named moo-mobile, the golf cart painted like a Holstein cow, which guests are welcome to use.brbrPaths are mowed through the fields for walking, and several of the hills on the property are perfect for admiring the view of the Adirondack mountains and the lake. brbrThe boathouse at the private beach contains two stand up paddle-boards, two kayaks, and beach chairs for relaxing, as well as a second grill for barbecues. The dock extends 90 feet out into the lake, and a private mooring is located in the sheltered bay if you have a boat for additional water activities. Corn hole is a common sight in the evenings while enjoying drinks on the terrace, and is provided along with a croquet set to enjoy.brbrThe house comes with basic cooking supplies such as oil and vinegar, flour, sugar, etc... The kitchen can also be stocked beforehand with groceries if you would like to arrive without errands to run. The property manager is happy to also discuss additional services available in the community.brbrThe property manager lives right next door, should any concerns arise during your stay.brbrPlease feel free to get in touch with any other questions.
