Modern Mountain Cabin: Spectacular Views @3100 ft.

Waynesville, North Carolina, United States

Welcome to Lookout Cabin! This thoughtfully remodeled home is a modern cabin experience, with all the amenities you’d expect, while still retaining the classic mountain cabin feel. Comfortably situated on 2.5 acres of private mountain land, come to rest, retreat and explore, all while taking in what we think are some of the best views of the majestic Western North Carolina mountains every day!brbrConveniently located about 15 minutes north of Downtown Waynesville, we are a 4 minute drive away from I-40, giving you easy access to a large number of local attractions and places to visit:brbrbr13 Minutes to Maggie Valleybr24 Minutes to Cataloochee Ski Areabr35 Minutes to Ashevillebr35 Minutes to Cherokee/Harrah’s/Main entrance to The Great Smoky Mountain Parkbr13 Minutes to Lake Junaluskabr30 Minutes to Historic Downtown Sylvabr1 Hour to Nantahala Outdoor Centerbr1 Hour and 20 Minutes to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg/DollywoodbrbrTucked away at the end of a road in the mountains of Waynesville, our cabin’s stunning exterior will be noticed at first glance. Starting at our wrap-around deck to take in the awe-inspiring views, our cabin will check all your boxes.brbrThrough the front door, you’re greeted with a wide open living space, comprised of our living room and dining room, designed not only for style, but to allow for maximum comfort.brbrOur living room has a 65 inch flat-screen TV, Roku enabled, ready for every streaming service you can imagine. (We are BYOL - bring your own login) In our cozy coffee table you will find several of our favorite board/table games to play as a group if you choose. The main couch turns into a pull-out, full-sized bed, that is comfortable enough to sleep two adults if needed.brbrOur dining space has a solid-wood dining table with 4 chairs and a bench that can seat 6 people comfortably, allowing you to enjoy that home-cooked meal when desired on vacation.brbrSpeaking of home-cooked meals, our kitchen is fully stocked with brand new appliances, pots and pans and all the essentials needed to cook a great meal. (Salt, pepper, oil, can opener, blender, etc.)brbrAs people who enjoy a good cup of coffee, we have both a Keurig in addition to a French press, with both K Cups and grounds, as well as tea, cream and sugar.brbrOn one side of the cabin we have one of the living quarters, a recently renovated full bath right across from our cozy “Mountain Room”, paying homage to the Blue Ridge Mountains, which has a full closet, memory foam queen bed, a dedicated mini-split AC unit and all the accessories needed for a comfortable stay.brbrOn the other side of the cabin you will find our “Forest Room”, with green accents, that is sure to bring a tranquil environment to your stay. Fitted with a memory foam king bed, a dedicated mini-split AC unit, a massive closet, as well as a small desk for those that plan on spending any time working. This room also has a very roomy and comfortable folding queen bed and mattress that we keep stowed in the closet until it's needed for use. It fits comfortably in the room when in use (refer to pictures for reference). This room also has its own fully renovated full bathroom right across the hallway.brbrAlso on this side of the house is another exterior entrance, leading to the other side of the deck, as well as a full washer and dryer unit that you are more than welcome to use, allowing you to go home with clean clothes! We provide a couple (2) of Tide Pods for your use per stay. If you wish, you are welcome to bring your own detergent to do a few more loads.brbrLastly, what we think is the crown jewel of our property, the outside space. Centered around a massive deck, we have 6 comfortable lawn chairs you are welcome to move around to the fire pit, the yard and the deck. Facing North, take in the view at sunrise or sunset overlooking the mountain range right in front of you. We have a brand-new gas grill that you are welcome to use, PLEASE make sure of two things when using the grill:br1. Always give the grill a quick clean after use (scrubbing the grates and a quick wipe down is sufficient)br2. FOR SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS: Please triple check that the propane is turned off BEFORE putting the grill cover back on.brWe also have a Corn Hole set as well as a large, wooden Connect 4 game that will bring fun to everyone in your party.brbrThere is a fire-pit just to the right (East) of the house, that you are welcome to use. Feel free to bring your own firewood, or collect any around the property that is already on the ground. Please, DO NOT chop down any of the live trees/plants.brbrGuest accessbrWhile we certainly aren’t quite in the “boonies” as we have a couple of neighbors within approximately 100 yards of our house, this is certainly a more secluded/rural part of town.brbrGiven that, access CAN BE, at times, tricky. The last 1/4 mile of the road up to our cabin is a gravel/dirt road that can be challenging, ESPECIALLY during snow/ice/heavy precipitation. While we have personally made it up the hill in both a smaller sedan, and a rental mini-van, we would recommend having a 4WD/AWD vehicle. When we personally use the cabin in the winter time (Dec, Jan, Feb), we will only bring our 4x4 full-size truck.brbrAs we mentioned, we are on 2.5 acres of NC mountain, so you are welcome to explore the property at your own risk, however please exercise caution. A lot of our land is located directly beneath the property heading down towards the main road. This is a very steep mountainside that could potentially be dangerous, we advise staying off of that part of the property and ensuring kids do the same.brbrOther things to notebrOur home is equipped with high-speed internet, which is for the most part both fast and reliable. However, it can randomly cut out from time to time, I guess part of being in the mountains. brbrbrbrbrAlso, while we personally have never seen one, there have been bears spotted in our area. We also get elk, gophers, bobcats and lots of other wildlife, please be mindful of this, and ensure that any trash that is taken to the outside can is locked securely with the lid. brbrbrLastly and most importantly, have fun, enjoy your stay, and enjoy the beautiful area of Western North Carolina that we ourselves have come to love.

Post Memorial Day Weekend Deal at Lake Logan Serenity - 20% off

Waynesville, North Carolina, United States

We offer lake and mountain views, a hot tub & are pet friendly. You can escape to the heart of the Smoky Mountains with a stay at our charming cabin near Waynesville, NC. This historic 1910 cabin, once a part of the Sunburst logging community, has been lovingly renovated (in 2014) to offer a perfect blend of old-world charm and modern comforts. Be transported back to a simpler, more laid-back time as you admire the bead board walls, wooden floors, and original windows, while still enjoying amenities like a hot tub, air conditioning, and a gas fireplace.brbrOur peaceful retreat has something for everybody: outdoor adventure, a beautiful lake, quaint mountain towns to explore, and R & R in a beautiful setting. Days spent in our unique 1910 lake cabin are guaranteed to take you back to a simpler time and rejuvenate your spirit. We are pet friendly so if you plan to bring your dog, please indicate that at the time of booking as there is a $75 pet fee and a two pet maximum.brbr So much more than just a place to stay – our cabin offers a total Appalachian experience complete with a crystal clear mountain lake at your doorstep and countless opportunities to immerse yourself in outdoor life. We keep a guest book in the cabin and believe our guests are able to say it better than we can:br“We loved staying here. So quiet and peaceful. You can hear the leaves falling.”br“Sitting on the front porch drinking coffee, watching the sun rise over the lake was beautiful!”brFavorite Moments: Crafting Christmas ornaments, cold plunges in the lake, hot tub recovery, strolling downtown Waynesville, baking and decorating gingerbread, watching DVD’s, cooking in old school oven.br“We caught lots of fish and watched the bald eagle fly over us as we were on the lake. Enjoyed the fire pit and loved the serene landscape.”br“This has been one of the most amazing trips we have ever taken. We have very busy professional careers and we seldom get the chance for the two of us to come together and enjoy some down time. To get the chance to come here and share such an amazing place and time is priceless. We will always have this place in our hearts.”br“What an absolutely beautiful cabin! We have so loved staying here. The natural beauty and all the nature surrounding the whole area is just a massive tonic for the soul. One of my favorite films is “On Golden Pond” and I feel like we have found a place just like it. Beautiful memories for us to take back.”brWe would recommend: Shopping in downtown Waynesville and eating at a local restaurant, viewing the Devil’s Courthouse Overlook on the drive through the Blue Ridge Parkway, canoeing, tubing, swimming and fishing in the lake. We enjoyed sun bathing on the dock and chillin’ in the hot tub.”br“Drove country roads, hiked mountain trails, visited the fish hatchery nearby, ate at Pisgah Inn Restaurant, fished, sat on the porch, met some really nice people, drove the Blue Ridge Parkway. We did not use our computers or cell phones. So nice to have this opportunity to connect as a family.”br “Caught 2 foot rainbow trout (first I had ever seen). We fried some up and baked a few pieces as well. Nothing better than fresh fish.”br“We wanted a remote, peaceful get away with a lake. This was perfect. The cabin was well stocked to meet all our needs. Enjoyed being “off the grid” most of the time. This area is so beautiful!brCaught a 9 pound bass off the dock the first afternoon. The cabin was perfect, the location is breath taking & the fishing is GREAT! Caught over 100 fish in 3 days. Mostly bass, bream & perch.brbrOnce a part of the Sunburst logging community, our cabin has been carefully renovated to preserve the bead board, wooden floors and feel of 1910, when it was built, while also adding modern conveniences like a hot tub, air conditioning, appliances and a gas heater. The result is a cozy cabin that provides everything needed for a comfortable stay while also transporting you back to a simpler, more laid back time. We have collected local stories and information about life at Sunburst in the early 1900’s for history buffs, but we have also really enjoyed learning about mountain life in a logging village 100 years ago. Other quotes from our guest book: brSpecial highlights: Reading the visitor guest book along with the history of the cabin. Knowing the small stone building in the back of the property was once a jail is pretty neat!”br“We love this cabin! It’s perfect. So many things make it unique: the beadboard, the dining table and mixed chairs, the wood floors and original windows, the stove and comfy beds, the gas heater, the very cool bathroom sink, and, of course, the porch!”brbrOur physical address is Canton. We are 11 miles from downtown Waynesville. Our cabin sits on the shores of spectacular Lake Logan. It is about 100 feet from the dock on the shore of the lake. It is on North Carolina 215, a National Forest Service Heritage Scenic Byway which climbs alongside a beautiful stretch of the upper West Fork of the Pigeon River towards the Blue Ridge Parkway. Lake Logan is a crystal clear mountain gem (perfect for swimming in) which lies in a pristine valley. Our cabin is currently one of 4 buildings on our side of the lake and sits on a 40 acre tract subdivided into 4 lots and surrounded by forest service land. We share our roads and dock with three neighbors, only one of whom lives at the lake. Neighbors' houses can't be seen or heard from the cabin. We are also neighbors with the 300 acre Lake Logan Episcopal Center. Most of its campus is just up the road from us. Part of their property includes 5 cabins across the lake from us which provide reassurance that we're not totally isolated, but we rarely bump into neighbors or retreat guests. Once an exclusive retreat for Champion Paper Company executives, Lake Logan, a 90 acre lake, is one of the most beautiful mountain lakes on the East coast and is completely surrounded by forest service land. Motorized boats are prohibited. So come soak up the serenity of God’s glorious gifts in this mountain sanctuary. Watch the sun set from the dock on Lake Logan or soak in the hot tub after a day of hiking or boating. The lake offers excellent fishing for trophy trout and bass, bluegill, crappie and perch. It is only open to guests of the conference center and us. You can relax in the swing on the covered porch, open the windows and fall asleep to the sound of the creek, or roast marshmallows at the firepit. Children will enjoy playing in the creek next to the cabin, swimming from the dock and paddling around in the jon boat or kayak. We've enjoyed spotting wildlife from the cabin and on the lake. We have resident bald eagles. We've seen deer, wild turkeys, otter, beaver and an elk. The lake is home to geese, ducks, kingfishers, and heron. Fall visitors will find the leaf color and mountain views spectacular. Winter visitors sometimes experience fresh snow, and great snow skiing at Cataloochee Ski Center (only a 30 minute drive away).brbrThousands of acres of Wilderness area surround the Lake. The Blue Ridge Parkway, the Sunburst swimming hole and a multitude of waterfalls and hiking trails are right next door. We're minutes from the highest points along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Extensive shopping & dining are only 15 minutes away in downtown Waynesville. The historic Biltmore House or eclectic Asheville are only 40 minutes away. Perfect for a romantic getaway, celebration of a special day, or a family vacation.brbrAlthough our cabin was built in 1910, it was completely renovated (in 2011) with all the modern conveniences, but period architecture (leaded glass windows, hard wood floors and bead board ceilings and walls) and furnishings remain. We have paid particular attention to craftsmanship and details inside and out, and worked to preserve the integrity of the period and mountain setting. The cabin has an open floor plan, large kitchen, two bedrooms and two full baths. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed, chest of drawers, as well as a full size closet for your belongings. The second bedroom also has a queen-size pillow top bed , dresser, and armoir. The sectional sofa in the den can be used to sleep 2 additional people. The second bathroom is off the den and has a shower and vanity with mirror. brbrThe large living area is a combination kitchen/dining/living room and has great views of the wooded areas surrounding the home. The living room is accented with a gas log heater and comfortably furnished with a sectional sofa and television with DVD player. A windowed door opens to the front porch that overlooks the lake. From there you can view activity on the lake and the dock or grill your favorite foods.brbrThe kitchen is fully equipped and in keeping with the period of the house. It contains an antique refrigerator/freezer and electric stove/oven. The microwave, dishwasher and coffee maker are new. There is also a breakfast bar that seats three and separates the kitchen from the den area. Dishes, silverware, pots, pans, and other cooking utensils are available for your use. The dining table, next to the kitchen, comfortably seats six and has a lake view.brbrWeather: we have 4 distinct seasons. Our property stays 5-10 degrees cooler than downtown Waynesville because of all the trees and the lake, but has the same weather patterns as the western North Carolina mountains. The lake temperature is cool, making swimming a refreshing experience even in the summer.brbrKeywords: Fisherman's paradise completely remodeled 1910 cabin tucked in the woods overlooking a private mountain lake in the heart of the Smoky Mountains, minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Boat dock, V-hull jon boat and tandem kayak available for guest use.
