There is a walkable access to the beach via the 9th Street overpass or a very short drive (under a mile) to the first beach access at the end of the Middleton bridge road. Oak Island is probably the island where more free public parking is available for non-residents. This was one of the determining factors we considered when choosing a place to build our beach home.
