The house sleeps 12 comfortably and offers every comfort and amenity that you might desire: convenient location to Geneva; wonderful restaurants, shopping, wineries and breweries, privacy, breathtaking lake views, 2 decks, Jacuzzi tub, fireplace, 100' of waterfront, swimming from dock, paddle boat, and much more.brbrThis waterfront home is ½ mile from East Lake Road back on a private drive, within a mile of Three Brothers, Ventosa, and Zugibee Wineries, and Bottomless Brewery. If you like peaceful lakeside accommodations with no traffic noise, no roads to worry about, consider Wood and Water.brbrEnjoy the first floor master bedroom facing the water. The great room has a fireplace and built in bookshelves that are full of books and games. Basic cable TV and wireless internet are available too. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes, utensils and small appliances and dishwasher. The table in the dining area off the great room seats 8. Sunny breakfasts are delightful on the cozy, knotty pine porch. brbrThe upstairs has 3 bedrooms with views of the lake and a 1/2 bath. One bedroom has 2 antique twins; another has a queen and 2 twins. The third is a small bedroom with 1 twin bed. The downstairs bedroom has a double bed and is near the bathroom. brbrThe Bunkhouse is available as extra sleeping space. It has it’s own powder room and a set of bunk beds, but is not winterized. The bunkhouse 1/2 bath is available May through October. brbrThe stairs to the lake are lit with solar lamps. Our waterfront includes a deck, a 50 ft long L shaped dock, and a swimming beach. You can use the canoe and swim to the raft (note - raft available between Memorial Day and Labor Day). The lake is about 5 ft. deep at the raft. Seneca Lake has excellent fishing and boating, with marina’s nearby to rent all types of boats. Cookout on the gas grill and roast marshmallows on the firepit. This fully equipped 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom home is newly remodeled with hardwood floors throughout, tile bathroom, central air conditioning,and all new stainless steel appliances. There is ample space throughout the house for gatherings. Cook out on the gas grill and enjoy alfresco dining on the expansive deck overlooking the water with patio seating for 12, sit down to a family dinner at the large dining room table, or enjoy a casual breakfast gathered in the eat-in kitchen.Relax in the 6 person Jacuzzi Hot Tub on the deck while watching the sunset, take the stairs down to the lake and go for a swim off the dock, cozy up in the living room in front of the fireplace and Smart TV, or choose from our selection of books and board games on a rainy day. Rochester and Syracuse airports are about 40 minutes away and Niagara Falls is about a 90 minute drive. Our deck has a set of stairs going down to the water and dock. The shore line is shale, so we recommend water shoes. The water is shallow in front of the house and gradually gets deeper. Native American legend explains the Finger Lakes this way: the Creator looked upon this land with special favor and reached down to bless it, leaving the imprint of His hand, hence, the Finger Lakes.brbrGeology tells a different story. As the last ice age ended, the final glaciers covering what is now the northern reaches of the United States receded. The incredible grinding pressures of the receding glaciers gouged enormous holes in what is now the Finger Lakes region. These became not only our Finger Lakes, but also the magnificent geologic anomalies throughout the region that include our incredible gorges and numerous waterfallsbrbrGeneva NewYork history brbrThe area was long occupied by the Seneca tribe, which had established a major village of Kanadaseaga here by 1687.[7] The British helped fortify the village against the French of Canada during the Seven Years' War (locally known as the French and Indian War); later they added defensive fortifications against the Americans during the Revolutionary War. During the latter warfare, the punitive Sullivan Expedition of 1779 mounted by rebel forces destroyed many of the dwellings, as well as the winter stores of the people, and they abandoned the ruins. Following the war and the forced removal of the Seneca from their native land, European-Americans settled here about 1793. They developed a town encouraged by the Pulteney Association, which owned the land and was selling plots.brbrAt the end of the Revolutionary War, Lt. Col. Seth Reed (né Read), who had fought at Bunker Hill, was one of many pioneers who moved from Massachusetts into Ontario County. By trade with the Seneca, he bought a tract of land eighteen miles in extent. (This was illegal, as only the US government was authorized to make land deals with the Native Americans.) This occurred in 1787, while his wife Hannah stayed in Uxbridge, Massachusetts with their family.[8] Seth Read moved his wife Hannah and their family to Geneva, Ontario County, New York in the winter of 1790.[9]brbrThe settlement at Geneva was not yet permanent; the European Americans continued to harass the Seneca on the frontier. In 1795 Read and his family removed to Erie, Pennsylvania, where they became the earliest European-American settlers.[10]brbrThe Village of Geneva was incorporated in 1806, formally separating it from the surrounding area of Geneva Town. Later the village became a city through a 1871 charter.[11]brbrIn the 1830s, a government surveyor named John Brink named both Geneva Lake and Lake Geneva in Wisconsin after Geneva, New York.
