The village of Higgins Lake is on the west shore of Higgins Lake and is about 5 miles from the cabin. There is bar and grill (Silver Dollar Pub & Grill) in the village. The 9,900 acres (4,000 ha) lake is known for its deep, clear waters and is the 10th largest in Michigan with a shoreline of 21 miles (34 km). It is named after Sylvester Higgins, the first chief of the topographical department of the Michigan Geological Survey. It has a maximum width of 4 miles (6.4 km) and a length of 7 miles (11 km) with a maximum depth of 135 feet (41 m). The mean depth is 44 feet (13 m) and the lake contains almost 20 billion cubic feet (570×106 m3) of water. Its retention time is about 12.5 years. The lake's watershed covers 19,000 acres (7,700 ha). In the summer you can use the dock to access the lake to swim, fish, and other water based activities. In the evening, fire up the gas grill, grab a glass of wine and enjoy a campfire in the backyard with our fire pit, six adirondack chairs and picnic table. In the winter, it is just a stone's throw away to enjoy ice fishing and snowmobiling on Higgins Lake.brbrLady Slipper Lake House is located 2 miles from South Higgins Lake State Park where you can launch your boat in the summer and 1.8 miles from the Cross Country Ski Headquarters from wintertime cross country skiing. We are located an hour and a half from Mackinaw City and Harbor Springs, the start of Michigan's Tunnel of Trees. It's only a few minutes to state land for hunting, or to enjoy hiking trails around Marl Lake. Within a 30 minute drive you can reach the beautiful old growth forest of Hartwick Pines State Park, and as well as world class trout fishing on the Ausable River. Boyne Mountain resort for winter skiing and tubing is one hour away as well.brbrThere are two bedrooms and and one full bathroom (shower only). We can accomodate 6 guests with one queen bed, one full bed, and two twin beds. The bedrooms were just renovated and one bedroom has a queen bed and the second bedroom has a set of twin bunk beds and a full size bed. If you need to work remotely there is also a desk in the bedroom with the queen bed. The house is cooled in the summer by window units (living room and bedrooms) and heated in the winter by a forced air furnace. Surrounded by nature, very private, 10 acre, wooded area yet less than a 10 minute drive to Roscommon. Property is located within 10 min from public access to Ausable River (fishing and kayaking), 20 min to Higgins Lake, 25 min to Houghton Lake, 5 min to Forest Dunes Golf Club, 20 min to Hanson Hills Skiing Park, lots of trails for hiking, snowmobile, and atv's. This is a great place to spend time away and get back to the basics. brbrPlan a day trip to beautiful Traverse City, Petosky, or Suttons Bay to start. brbrFully stocked kitchen with all the stuff you need. Including coffee pot and filters, air fryer, toaster, blender and crockpot. brbrThe garage is off limits for guests. But there is plenty of room for vehicles and atv trailers with a large circular driveway.br brKeep in mind you’re in the woods and may see a bug or two. We do spray for critters, ticks, fleas, and mosquitos around the property and try our very best to manage it. brbrThere is a bonfire pit with wood available for purchase on property, lawn chairs, horse shoes, propane grill, and picnic table for your evenings of unplugged family and friend time. Don’t leave fire in pit unattended & distinguish before retiring for the night. Please respect our property as you would your own and don’t leave garbage scattered outside. brbrYour family pets are considered, dogs only. Breed and number of dogs are taken into account. Weight not to exceed 50lbs. We do ask that you please crate your dog when the dog is left alone inside the home. Please clean up any doggie messes outside. Enjoy the original knotty pine and modern upgrades that make your stay cozy and comfortable! brWe are very serious about the cleanliness of our cottage...we will provide sanitized bed linens, but not blankets or pillows, which are difficult to maintain to our standards. brWe do not allow ANY events at our cottage that would bring in over 8-10 guests, as we have the utmost respect for our neighbors and the beautiful, quiet natural surroundings that make our cottage a peaceful getaway.
