Our house has a wonderful view of the ocean, Criehaven (a seasonally populated island), and the lighthouse on Matinicus Rock. The property includes a right of way to a sandy beach where few people go. There are several areas of conserved land with hiking trails nearby. The house is an antique shingle Maine cape with a new addition situated on a sparsely traveled country road. There is a field and an old barn.brbrbr Matinicus is an island 22 miles off the coast of Maine. It is the most remote of the islands populated in the winter with a year round population of around forty. It is a traditional working community that depends on the lobster fishery. There is a one room school, small church, town hall, post office, and seasonal bakery. Matinicus has dependable electricity, phone service, and internet at the small public library. The house has all modern amenities, and is suitable for up to eight.brbr Matinicus is accessible by the Maine State Ferry Service, air plane via Penobscot Island Air, and private ferry service.
