We had an issue with a mama bear and her cubs getting into the house a few summers ago. The electric fence will shock the bears and you if you touch while it is on. It is similar to cattleguard and considered to be the most humane way to keep the bears out of houses and safe. Be bear wise. A fed bear is a dead bear. We are lucky to vacation in their habitat. The bear fence is turned on and off at the front door. Do not play or fool around with the fencing. Its not a toy and we are not responsible if someone wants to disregard our warning not to touch it.

We love and respect them, and everyone must accept responsibility for keeping them alive and the property damage-free. The Lake Tahoe Community is highly sensitive about the responsible disposal of trash and any type of wildlife attractant(s). Local residents routinely report violators to the local Sheriff’s Department, without warning. Bears that enter a residence, garage, or vehicle are subject to euthanasia by the Department of Fish & Game. Please know that it is against State Law to leave any type of trash or wildlife attractant unattended. Therefore, all trash and recycling must always be securely placed inside a locked metal container (e.g., bear box or dumpster). Overflow garbage and recycling must be taken off-site by the Guests and never left in a garage, vehicle, near a door or window, or any other unsecured outdoor location. Guests assume financial responsibility for all violations of the law. Local and State fines for improper storage and/or disposal range between $1,500 and $5,000 per occurrence. In addition, should a violation of this policy occur, your reservation will be immediately terminated, you will forfeit all fees paid, and the Property Owners will be entitled to reimbursement by the Guests for loss of revenue due to revocation of their Short Term Rental Permit.brbr08. Housekeeping and Check Out PracticesbrYour cleaning fees cover a standard level of service, including floors and surfaces, linen changes, and laundry processing. Unlike a hotel, this is a personal residence, and as such, the cleaning fee does not accommodate excessive or unanticipated services not typically required for a residential stay. Thank you for caring for this property as if it were your own. brbrAfter you check out of the property, there may be a period of time before the cleaning service arrives. Our bears are very motivated by homes with accessible food and trash smells (even when the doors and windows are closed), so we kindly ask that Guests please:br(1) Return all indoor and outdoor furniture to their original locations/positions.br(2) Leave used beds unmade (no bedding on the floor, please).br(3) We appreciate you collecting all dirty towels and placing them near the washing machine - we always love it when guests start the first load when they leave.br(4) Secure all remaining trash in the bear box or dumpster provided, ensuring the door is firmly closed and locked.br(5) Load the dishwasher with any remaining dirty dishes and start the wash cycle.brWe don’t want to put any undue pressure on Guests to do our job. Security CamerasbrAs a function of our bear awareness, your safety, and the security of the property, exterior-only motion-activated security cameras may monitor the front door, driveway, side yards, and other common areas. Tampering with or disabling cameras is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate termination of your reservation and forfeiture of all fees paid.brbr11. Property & Property UsebrThis property is for residential vacation use only. Events, commercial activities, subletting, or transferring your reservation to another party are not permitted. In the unlikely event of eviction or other actions required to enforce the Rental Agreement Rules & Policies, an hourly administrative fee of $35 per hour will be charged to the Guests.brbr12. ReservationsbrFor weekend stays, all Friday night reservations must include the following Saturday night.
