The renowned John Campbell Folk Art School and craft shops are nearby, plus wineries, farmers’ markets, flea markets, theatre and folk music, and town square gazebo events. Sometimes you can get a low signal on Verizon but other times less so. Turning on WIFI calling at the cottage changes everything. Still, please download directions, instructions, content, and anything you need prior to leaving home or (at minimum) the center of Hayesville.br• Landline calls – for long distance calls on the landline, we require a calling card or charges will deducted from the deposit. International calls are not possible.br• Noise – the area is typically quiet. The neighbor who shares the driveway also hosts guests as a vacation rental so at times you’ll see and hear their social activities.br• Safety/lighting – there is a bright security light next door (from dusk to dawn) that is excellent for safety and finding your way in late at night. However, there is light spill into the front bedroom, so please close the window shades for darkness.br• Wildlife & nuisances – being on the river surrounded by nature lends itself to seasonal infiltration of wildlife, mosquitos, gnats, ticks, ants and poison oak. In the warm summer months don’t be surprised if you find uninvited guests. Luckily the spacious screened porch allows you to enjoy the ambiance of the river from while offering protection. We keep a range of bug repellant and pest supplies available. Recently in the area coyotes and bears have been sighted so please keep a watch over small children and do not leave food out.br• Mud & dirt – please use outdoor hose on the side of the cottage to clean off mud or sand from the river or lake before going inside.br• Allergies – the property owner’s cats do visit the property on occasion so be aware if you have allergies. The cottage is cleaned thoroughly after their visits. For feather allergies we have a variety of pillows for your convenience.br• River traffic & levels – you’ll see adventure-seeking paddlers float by in their kayaks during daytime. Late afternoon, water released from the dam will cause the river to rise and run enthusiastically. Information on the timing of these water releases is provided for safety.brbrAmenities – some highlights:br• Full kitchen includes basics: a variety of spices, salt and pepper, olive oil, vinegar, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and cornstarch, bottle and wine openers.br• Coffee station with coffee, tea, shelf-stable half-and-half, sugar and stevia.br• The water is from a well and very tasty. A Brita Filter is provided to filter it.br• Microwave, located on shelf in the laundry room.     Our wheelchair ramp begins on the driveway with a level concrete pad. The ramp accesses a large, sunny deck on the front of the house. The entrance and main floor doors are 36 inch wide, except for the 1/2 bath, which is barely big enough for a person, let alone a wheelchair. Home is a beautifully decorated log cabin with a strong country theme, to include a fireplace with firewood provided. The main floor master bedroom has a comfy king-size memory foam mattress and a wall mounted TV. We have included two office mats (underneath the bed) for those bringing Hoyer lifts. A barn door in the bedroom accesses an in-suit bath with a barrier free shower, grab bars, and a wall-mounted shower seat. It has ample room around the toilet with a grab bar as well as two ADA sinks. There is ample turn-around room in the bathroom for a wheelchair. Accessibility was not an afterthought, but the result of planning to developing a friendly environment. Open main floor has ample, fully equipped kitchen with stove, microwave, refrigerator, dish washer, garbage disposal, farm sink and dish washing soap and dish washer soap provided. The comfy living area has a wall-mounted TV with DVD/Blue Ray player, numerous DVD movies, Dish Network, and a super NES Classic with over 200 games loaded on it. Our fireplace is well stocked with firewood provided as well as fire starters. There is also a ramp from the living room to the shaded, fully screened upper back porch which extends the entire length of the house. It is equipped with ceiling fans and rocking chairs to relax on. There is also access to the same porch from the master bedroom at the opposite end. A wheelchair can access the larger lower back deck by way of the front ramp then on down the driveway, where there are two nicely decorated bedrooms (each with queen size memory foam mattress), a full bath with shower (no tub), and a laundry room with a complimentary washer/dryer and clothes washing detergent and dryer sheets. Wheelchairs can get in and out of the bedrooms via the outside sliding doors but the hallway and bathroom downstairs are restrictive for wheelchair access. The downstairs game room is wheelchair accessible from the outside sliding doors, which has a regulation sized pool table, our 9' shuffleboard table (with bowling accessories too), a card table, kids chalkboard easel and an air hockey table, along with numerous board games, and puzzles. We now have a 5-person spa/hot tub that we have had installed, no need to bring towels as we have lots of beach towel for you to use. We have 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths - easy sleeping room for 6, and we can accommodate a few more if necessary, so let us know and we will advise you on the extra sleeping space. Both full bathrooms have small sundries in place (mini bath wash, toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash, razor just to name a few). Living room beanbag unzips to a kid-friendly full mattress, along with a full mattress on the sofa sleeper. Upon request we can also provide a comfortable queen air mattresses (on legs) that can be setup in the game room. The internet is available but is about like playing chess with a tree-stump, that means that it's very slow. We have a small collection of books as well as over 100 movie DVD's to choose from. There is a nice new brick barbecue area with charcoal provided and BBQ tools to use located next to the game room entrance. There is flood lighting for this area and the light switch for it is located in the game room. The air is clean and clear and no other sound intrudes into the area except for the sounds of the Hiawassee River which speeds by at the bottom of the property. We have 3 acres of woods and hills around the cabin, and rolling hills around you. It is very peaceful and secluded with few neighbors, making it a wonderful place to center yourself and refocus on the important things around you. WIFI and internet are present and terrible (sorry, it is the terrain, not the equipment) so put your devices away and actually get to know each other again as this is a wonderful place for that. We have a phone connected for use if you can't get a signal on your cell phone while here (Verizon seems to be the only one that provides decent service in the cabins area). There is a fire pit that we have just a few steps down the hill from the the bottom deck of the cabin. Late night Smore's and roasted marshmallows are always a hit. We have various locations on the property that you can walk to and hang our hammocks in, relax on a bench or some of the outdoor furniture and immerse yourself in nature. We have made every effort to create a special, healing environment for you and your family and friends. If you are looking for other adventures, many are available in the area. We are just a few miles from the John C Campbell Folk School if you want to take a class in just about any hobby that you can do by hand.
