The mountains in the northern part of the state appealed to them (Regina saw mountains every day of her life growing up), but when the realtor took him to a small property between two tiny towns in the Blue Ridge range, David was a bit hesitant. brbr“We always lived in the metro area, and originally didn’t want to look that far out,” David tells me. “But when I walked up to that ridge (where the RV is now) and took in the view, I immediately pulled out my phone to write Regina a message.”brbrThat text to his wife said, “This is it.”br***br“We fell in love with that piece of land before we even walked the property,” David says of their three acres. And now, just a few years later, they’re full-time Dahlonegans. brbr“We live just a couple of miles from town, on a peaceful mountain road, and we love it here. Being from the city as we are, Dahlonega is a ‘Hallmark town,’” David smiles. “It’s homey, locally owned, and has its own quaint and quiet personality.”brbr***brIn the RV there is a roll of paper that guests use to leave notes and comments about their stay. David still has every single one. He gets the pile of unbleached papers out of the closet and reads some to me, pride and joy in his voice. The view and sunset are a common theme. “Thank you for the beautiful mountain escape,” reads one. “Peaceful, beautiful, spectacular!” is another. “Serene getaway, sunset amazing!” And my favorite, the exclamatory and simple, “S’mores! Hiking! Hospitality!” brbrIt’s that hospitality piece that drives David and Regina. They love welcoming people to their adopted home, and the RV atop the ridge. When I made the mistake of calling it a “trailer,” David corrected me.brbr“Calling this a ‘trailer,’” he says, “is like calling The Hilton a Motel 6,” he laughs. “It’s spacious, comfortable, and clean. I mean, we keep it almost too clean — obsessively clean! And the kitchen… We had a legit chef stay there once, and you should have seen some of the feasts he whipped up in that kitchen. ‘Trailer!’” He chuckles.brbr***brbrWhen there are no guests staying in the “Hilltop Hilton,” David and Regina head up to the ridge around sunset time with their dogs (yes, they’re dog people, and would love to host yours, too, providing they’re on the smaller side — see The Small Print for details), light a fire in the stone pit, and open a bottle of local wine. brbr“We sit there, rocking on those big swings, listening to the wind chimes on the breeze. Sometimes we see local critters — deer, turkeys, coyotes, rabbits, ermine, even a black bear every once in a blue… It’s downright spectacular. Once full dark comes, you look up and there’s stars galore, and you can see the Milky Way.”brbrSpectacular, indeed. brbr~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~brbr~The Small Print~brbrBEFORE YOU BOOK:br-Area wide power outages are common in the mountains and no refunds will be given if an area wide power outage happens during your stay. We highly encourage you to venture out and immerse yourself in all that Dahlonega has to offer!brbr---brbrA few things to note:brbr- The road to the cabin on the mountain is not completely paved and the terrain is uneven. While most vehicles can navigate it without any issues, we advise against attempting the drive with vehicles that have a very low clearance. While a 4WD is not necessary, a low-clearance vehicle may struggle to traverse the road.brbr- Please be aware that GPS directions may sometimes lead you to the wrong driveway. Look for a white mailbox with the number 350 displayed on the side. Our driveway is just beyond that mailbox.brbr- For your convenience, we provide a basic starter pack of supplies for your stay, including 1 roll of paper towels in the kitchen, 2 trash bags, 1 roll of toilet paper for each bathroom, 2 dishwasher pods, and 2 laundry pods. We recommend that you bring additional supplies to ensure you have enough for your entire group and the duration of your stay. Should you need further supplies, there are nearby stores such as Publix, Home Depot, and Walmart, all within a 15-minute drive from the cabin.brbr- Please note that we do not supply firewood, so we suggest bringing your own if you plan to use the fire pit.brbr- While ride-sharing options like Ubers and Lyfts are limited in Dahlonega, there are three excellent local taxi services available: Mama’s Taxi, Pop’s Taxi, and Savoir Faire Taxi Service & Wine Tours. We recommend scheduling your rides in advance, especially during the busy wedding seasons of Spring, Summer, and Fall, as these services may have limited availability for on-the-spot pickups.br
