1970s Gambrel Cabin in the Los Padres National Forest

Pine Mountain Club, California, United States

Located in a spectacular mountain setting just 90 miles north of Los Angeles, Pine Mountain Club is a residential community in the Los Padres National Forest. Relax & unwind while surrounded by acres of old forests that shelter an array of flora & fauna, including the rare California Condor. This cabin was one of the original homes built in PMC in 1976. Although newly updated, the 70s vibe is still alive with cork floors, shag rugs, wood paneling, an 8-track player & orange Malm fireplace.brbrOur 1970s chalet-style gambrel cabin is located at an altitude of 5500 feet above sea level. Both bedrooms are equipped with organic latex mattresses (queen downstairs, full upstairs) and ROKU smart TVs. There is also a TV with basic cable, a VHS player, and classic video games in the living room downstairs. Upstairs we have a projector for watching movies on a big screen. The kitchen is equipped with a full size refrigerator, oven/stove, Nespresso machine with milk frother, blender, waffle maker and fondue pot. We have board games, puzzles, records, 8-track cassettes, VHS tapes, a keyboard, and a working fireplace. Towels and linens are provided. The washer and dryer cannot be used by guests, but there is a laundromat in the village and another in Frazier Park.brbrKeep in mind this is not a hotel, this is a privately owned cabin in the middle of a National Forest. The water may take a little longer to heat up, the electric heaters might smell a little dusty the first time they are turned on after a long summer, spiders might rebuild their webs less than 24 hours after the space is cleaned, there may be dirt on the outdoor furniture, you might need to wear insect repellant in the summer or shovel the driveway and deck in the winter. There is no air conditioning, only floor fans. If you are looking for a luxury hotel, this is not it, but if you want a fun, comfortable getaway in the mountains, please submit a booking inquiry with some info about your group and why you chose PMC and our cabin.brbrNOTE:brThere is an outdoor security camera on the property.brWe do not have air conditioning, only fans.brThe cabin is not in the middle of nowhere, we have neighbors on all sides. Please be respectful.brThe wi-fi is pretty reliable but as we are in a rural area, it does go out from time to time. If you absolutely must have internet access guaranteed, this may not be the place for you.

Key will be provided in outdoor lock box. Code provided when booking confirmed. Guest assessed a $50 fee if keys are lost.brbrCRITICALLY IMPORTANTbrbrThis is a mountain cabin on 9000 foot peak sitting at 6000 feet thus it can get cold during the winter. The primary heating for the cabin is the brick fireplace therefore, it is important that the guest knows how to properly and safely light, monitor and maintain a fireplace fire. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO THIS, PLEASE DO NOT RENT THIS CABIN!brbrWith that said, during winter months starting October 1 and ending April 30, guests will be allowed LIMITED access to firewood and fire starters kept on the property. Guests will only burn HARDWOOD firewood, NO SOFTWOOD OR CONSTRUCTION LUMBER FIREWOOD IS ALLOWED. Access is strictly limited to one bin/bundle of firewood per day, which is adequate to keep a fire lit for a 24 hour. The firewood bin is located next to the fireplace. The firewood stack is located in the front yard and usage is monitored by CCTV. Guests can bring their own HARDWOOD firewood to augment the firewood provided. Kindling IS NOT PROVIDED.brbrAll fires MUST BE monitored at all times by the guest and cannot be left unattended. DO NOT OVERBUILD the fire, ALWAYS secure the fire screen to prevent embers from exiting the fireplace, and DO NOT ever close the damper. It is strongly suggested that the guest keeps all interior doors shut to include the wood accordion door separating the adjoining bedroom. The cabin has high faulted ceilings, thus it is important that the ceiling fans are turned on at a medium setting to circulate the hot air back down to the ground floor.brbrPETSbrbrGuests are allowed to bring one small dog described as a single dog weighing less than 20 pounds and must be a hypoallergenic breed. All other animals are prohibited. In order to bring the defined dog, the guest must select and pay the $100 pet fee.brbrHEATINGbrbrAs previously noted the fireplace is the primary heat source for the cabin. In addition, individual bedrooms are fitted with electric wall heaters. Guests are ask to sparingly use these heaters to avoid overuse, tripping electric circuits, and to save energy. Please to do tamper with these heaters or attempt to bypass any dial restrictor. The queen bedroom is fitted with a new WIFI wall heater. If used, please do not set the temperature above H2.brbrSLEEPINGbrbrThere are 3 bedrooms. One with a queen bed, another with a king bed and another with a double bed/futon.
