This mountain hide-away is truly magical. Explore our six forested and private acres, in the Sierra National Forest. Black Bear Lodge and Bunkhouse Cottage is uniquely situated between two Yosemite entrances. We are 35 miles to the Arch Rock Entrance (access to Yosemite Valley, Yosemite Village, Half Dome, El Capitán and Tunnel View). And, we are 35 miles to the South Gate (access to Wawona, the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, Bass Lake and the Sugar Pine Railroad). Both drives are absolutely gorgeous and take approximately one hour. brbrEnjoy our brand new hot tub underneath the stars after a day of exploring the nearby National Park. Our outdoor amenities also include a propane BBQ, picnic tables, hammocks and fire pit (weather permitting). For our equestrian travelers, your horses will be as pampered and comfortable as you are in our four stall barn (some with automatic water), turn out pasture, round pen and tack room. brbrOur area also abounds in hiking opportunities (some within walking distance of our home). A dozen or so trailheads are within about ten miles of the property. Of course, some of the most spectacular trails are also within easy driving distance within the National Park. Our all season home has natural attractions year round. In the summer, the mountain ambience can't be beat with warm days and cool nights. In the fall, the trees in our area are nothing short of gorgeous, and the most picturesque pumpkins patch imaginable is just down the road, featuring a large pond, farm, picnic area, rustic games, and a beautiful setting that's hard to capture in words. In the winter, the property becomes a snowy wonderland. The wood burning stove is so cozy and charming as you enjoy the falling snow through our two story, gabled windows. And, in the spring, the creeks and rivers are full, and surrounding alpine meadows and mountainsides explode with poppies, lupines, dog woods and other mountain wildflowers. Mariposa, Highway 140, is the route that takes you to the main valley entrance. There are many beautiful hikes in Yosemite. In the area, there are local hikes, many wonderful restaurants, interesting historic sites Like the old Mariposa Courthouse, the old stone jail, the mining and mineral museum, the state mineral exhibit, and Yosemite zip lines. Nearby where you can enjoy visiting the town of oakhurst, Bass Lake, McSwain, Bagby river and the old town of Hornitos. There is a park above town to take the kids, and above it is a tennis court and the town plunge. There is a good size supermarket in town for all your shopping needs, as well as hardware stores, churches, auto stores, pharmacies, clothing shops, etc.… Nothing beats getting out of the city and spending a cozy holiday in our rustic home.

Nestled in mountains, just two minutes from Mariposa, 'The Gateway to Yosemite,' and decorated with the theme of the wildlife that roam nearby, you'll enjoy coming home to this retreat after a day in Yosemite, or Historic Mariposa. The home features a hot tub, deck, fire circle, TV, Books, Wifi, a fully functional kitchen, 2 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms. Nearby Mariposa and other historic towns like Coulterville, Hornitos, Bear Valley, the Mariposa Museum, and the State Mineral Exhibit are fun to explore. In the summer the town is alive with tourists, weekend 'Music on the Green' featuring local artists in a lovely park setting, occasional open air movies on the park lawn. A fun time to visit is in the spring, when the falls in Yosemite are running. Mariposa has it's butterfly festival, and parade (usually the first weekend in May.) The poppies in the Briceburg canyon are breath-taking. Fall is also wonderful; Starting with the Labor Day Parade and old fashioned Mariposa County Fair. I love the colors that come with the changing of the leaves, and the crisp air. Winter is great, especially if we have a few snows! The Mariposa Christmas parade is usually the first weekend in December, as is the annual Christmas Craft fair. Yosemite offers some fun activities at the Ahwanee, as well as ice skating, and skiing in the village, or it's always fun to drive there to see the Lord's majestic Creation. It's also fun to just relax at Grace Oak's Cozy Hollow... away from the hustle and on the porch and watch for deer, (which I see here everyday) wild turkeys, quail,& rabbits, while you enjoy a good book...br( and I just saw a coyote there today.) Roast marshmellows around our gas fire pit, or hang out under the stars in our Hot tub. Nothing beats a family Christmas away from the city.
