The wood for the stove is always fully stocked. It is close to the Badger Pass winter sports area and ice skating in the park and Tenaya Lodge. We offer his and hers snowshoes and snow sleds for a fun day in the snow. brbrThe bedroom and loft are appointed with comfortable queen beds and a sofa that turns into a very comfortable double bed (There are reviews verifying the comfort of the bed.). The towels and linens are high quality soft cotton. The loft has a comfortable sitting area to read and relax. The library provides a wide variety of books, games and puzzles. brbrFrom the living area you can walk out onto the private deck with seating for 6+, a gas grill and a hot tub. The hot tub is right off the deck, which you can relax and soak up the incredible view of the sierras or star gaze in the evening. brbrAll year we provide a herb garden and in the summer we grow yummy tomatoes for the guests to enjoy. brbrWe also have a beautiful home on the same property, which is private and separate from the cottage. The living room and dining area are large and open with lovely and comfortable furnishings. There is a large laundry room available for our guests. You step out the front door and are surrounded by trees over one hundred years old, huge granite rocks and a seasonal creek right in front of the house. Early risers can enjoy that first cup of morning coffee with a leisurely walk or sitting under the trees enjoying the quiet and fresh air. Yosemite is approx. a one hour drive (38 miles) along the Merced River which meanders through canyons into the park. For advanced hikers our home is two miles from one of the most beautiful hikes in Mariposa. Search: Hite Cove trail for details. Mountain biking is also right out our door! We are located on the trail head of the forest service fire roads that span over 40 miles of amazing riding with views of the back country of Yosemite including a view of El Capitan seven miles from our house. Historical downtown Mariposa is 20 minutes away with gold mining and rock museums, shopping, restaurants and antique stores. You can pick up the YARTS bus into the park in several locations in town. Bus fare includes admission into the park. Chuckchansi Casino is 45 minutes away with live shows and several restaurants. Bass Lake is 45 minutes away with boating, jet skiing, fishing and swimming. We are 35 miles to the Arch Rock Entrance (access to Yosemite Valley, Yosemite Village, Half Dome, El Capitán and Tunnel View). And, we are 35 miles to the South Gate (access to Wawona, the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, Bass Lake and the Sugar Pine Railroad). Both drives are absolutely gorgeous and take approximately one hour. brbrEnjoy our brand new hot tub underneath the stars after a day of exploring the nearby National Park. Our outdoor amenities also include a propane BBQ, picnic tables, hammocks and fire pit (weather permitting). For our equestrian travelers, your horses will be as pampered and comfortable as you are in our four stall barn (some with automatic water), turn out pasture, round pen and tack room. brbrOur area also abounds in hiking opportunities (some within walking distance of our home). Yosemite Entrance located in El Portal where Yosemite Valley is located takes 1 h drive. Travel times get longer during weekend rush hours and holidays.brbrThe property is not fully fenced and is located in a secluded place. All of the soundings of Yosemite National Park including urban areas have the component of wildlife. Some of the local animals that can be observed on a daily basis include deer, turkeys, squirrels, hawks, and rabbits. Not as common animals to see but living in the area are coyotes, bears, mountain lions, raccoons, opossum, skunk, rattlesnakes, tarantulas, and scorpions. Poison oak and poison ivy are also elements of local flora. brbrAll of California including the Sierra Nevada area is seasonally experiencing wildfires which are natural occurrences in the area. Nearby Mariposa and other historic towns like Coulterville, Hornitos, Bear Valley, the Mariposa museum, and the state mineral exhibit are fun to explore.br In the summer the town is alive with tourists, weekend 'Music on the Green' featuring local artists in a lovely park setting, occasional open air movies on the park lawn. br A fun time to visit is in the spring, when the falls in Yosemite are running. Mariposa has it's butterfly festival, and parade (usually the first weekend in May.) The poppies in the Briceburg canyon are breath-taking.brFall is also wonderful; Starting with the Labor Day Parade and old fashioned Mariposa County Fair. I love the colors that come with the changing of the leaves, and the crisp air. brWinter is great, especially if we have a few snows! The Mariposa Christmas parade is usually the first weekend in December, as is the annual Christmas Craft fair. Yosemite offers some fun activities at the Ahwannee, as well as ice skating, and skiing, or it's always fun to drive there to see the Lord's majestic Creation. Every once in a while, we might hear of a bear.brbrThe property is kept in a native state, safe for fire protection, but not manicured. Poison oak is native and it happens. The water level in the pond varies by the year and season. When exploring, do so at your comfort level.brbrThe weather is not under our control. The Sierras are prone to fire danger. Smoke can happen in the area and it doesn't always make things as perfect as we'd like them to be. We monitor the local situation closely and defer judgment to the county as to any immediate fire dangers.brbrThe droughts have been hard over the past few years.
