You can enjoy views of the bay while sipping your morning coffee or relax in the evening and watch the sunset with your favorite cocktail. You won’t find another porch as spacious and inviting as this one!brbrOne step inside the foyer and you will notice the flood of natural light that brightens up every room of this happy home. On the first floor you will find a living room with a smart TV, comfortable seating, and lots of books and puzzles. A perfect place to take a break for some down time and rest. A dining room, with a vintage-mid century table that comfortably seats 8. As well as a bar with the tools you need to make your favorite happy hour beverage. Next to that is a well-equipped kitchen where you will find everything you need to make a home cooked meal. The eat-in counter is perfect for breakfast-time or afternoon happy hours before dinner. As a bonus, the kitchen windows face the Bay and its magnificent sunsets.brbrOff the back of the kitchen is a porch with washer and dryer, beach towels, a high chair and other supplies needed to make your stay comfortable. brbrUpstairs you will find three bedrooms, comfortable for sleeping 6. All with windows on two sides of the room letting in beautiful natural light. Don’t worry though — each room has black-out shades to ensure maximum sleep time in the mornings. The first bedroom is the ‘master’ bedroom with a queen bed, a full bath with tub/shower and windows overlooking the bay. The second bedroom also has a queen sized bed and the third has a set of twin bunk beds. There is an additional spacious full bathroom in the shared hallway upstairs, with double sinks and a tub/shower.brbrFamilies with young children are encourage to pack light and use our pack n’ play, high chair, kid friendly cups and dishes, and utensils. We have toys, books, games, puzzles and lots of beach toys for guests use.brbrWe also provide two beach chairs, a beach umbrella, and a beach wagon to cart all of your things to the beach. Since we are a block from the beach, with beach access on our street- the beach wagon is all you need to get there but if you would prefer to have a golf cart to get around, you can rent one in town. We fell in love with this house because of its location, the spaciousness it provides, and the great outdoor space which makes the house a joy to be at when you need to get off the beach for awhile. We've worked very hard to give it all the modern amenities while also having that perfect eastern shore coastal vibe. Welcome to The Catch of the Cape!brbrOne of the things we loved about this home is how spacious all the rooms are, in particular each bedroom is oversized and the house has several additional spaces that we have found to be unique for most of the homes in the historic district. There is a sunroom to sit and enjoy your coffee in the morning while looking out over the canal and open green space, the pool table room is a great space to enjoy some indoor time after fun in the sun, the dedicated kids space has its own television and couch/trundle bed combo for the kiddos to enjoy, and the comfy tv watching room has plenty of space to kick back and enjoy the game or binge watch your favorite streaming shows. brbrOne of our other favorite things about this property is the large amount of outdoor space, once again a very unique feature for a home situated in the Historic District of Cape Charles. Outside you can enjoy the oversized patio with seating, a pavilion for some nice cool shaded time while outside, a dedicated fire pit space with adirondack chairs, an outdoor shower, and lots of green space for yard games. brbrYes this is a beach house but our hope was to make it a place that offers guests many ways to kick back and enjoy while vacationing in one of our favorite places.brbrThe one question we get from first time renters more than any other is whether being a few blocks from the beach is a hinderance in any way and from our experience it is not, actually there is a lot that we have come to love about being just on the east side of Fig St. The first thing to know is that golf carts are a big part of the Cape Charles experience, if you are coming to stay here we highly recommend you rent a golf cart. With a golf cart you can pretty much be anywhere in town you want to be, including the beach, in just a minute or so. And let's be real, life is always better when riding around in a golf cart :) brbrThe unique benefits of this location is that you get to enjoy lots of green space and views, never have to battle for space to park, and get to have a quiet and serene experience. Guests can enjoy the salt breezes while lounging on the home’s beautiful front porch in comfy rockers or enjoy the side patio while having lunch at the picnic table.brWhen stepping into “Sea Gate,” you will be greeted by both the ambiance of historic Cape Charles and by an architecturally-unique home, beautifully decorated, furnished and equipped as a comfortable modern home. brAbout the first floor: Entrance into the home is into a large foyer with a grand piano. Off the foyer to the left is the living room which is well-furnished and includes comfortable, theater-style seating (built-in recliners). Here's why: brbrThe movie The Sandlot has long been a favorite of our family. Set in the summer of 1962, it tells the story of a group of friends who play baseball together, go to the pool (and fake drowning to hook up with the smoking hot lifeguard, Wendy Peffercorn), hang out in tree houses and just, generally, get in trouble. It's a nostalgic take on the friendships of our youth, all centered around baseball (the favorite pastime of our family). Every time I watch it, I long for those simpler, easier times depicted in the movie... when the only care in the world was how best to retrieve a baseball that went over a fence. brbrLikewise, that longing for a simpler, easier time is why we fell in love with Cape Charles. My wife and I instantly became enamored by the old-fashioned charm of the town. From the old school hardware store to the breakfast counter at the pharmacy to the beautiful old houses, it really reminded us of some of the iconic scenes depicted in The Sandlot. We, literally, could envision Cape Charles being THE town that Benny The Jet, Scotty Smalls, Ham Porter, and the legendary, Michael Squints Palledorous once lived and raised havoc. brbrSo, we kept coming back. Every summer we would look forward to spending time together as a family on the beach, getting ice cream at Brown Dog, riding bikes around town, eating pizza at DeadRise Pies and just generally, unplugging from our hectic Northern Virginia lifestyle. It was our respite and sanctuary from the chaos of it all.brbrWe knew we eventually wanted to have our own place at Cape Charles and, one day, the perfect house became available. It was just steps to the beach, the downtown shops and Central Park. And, just as importantly, it was big enough for our family and guests. And, it is now our own escape and retreat... our very own... A Ring doorbell camera is installed on the front of the house for security of the property only. We have a microbrewery, a cidery, a pub in an historic bank building, a seafood shanty, a neighborhood pizza place, bakeries and coffeehouses, plus a wonderful new & used book shop just to name a few. If you want a super simple, laid back beach getaway with lots of parking and no crowds, this is it!brbrIt couldn`t be easier! Park your car right out front on the street and put the keys away because you won`t need them until you head home. You can walk, bike (if you bring your own) or rent a golf cart and get anywhere you`d like to go in town in five minutes or less.brThe person who booked the trip must be present for the stay or the reservation will be cancelled.brbrFurniture should not be rearranged. Completely modern with loads of privacy, it can accommodate up to 12 guests and has two separate living areas. When you're not splashing in the pool, you can take a 1-minute drive to stroll the nicest beach on the Eastern Shore. It is about 6 minutes to Kiptopeke State Park with its great beach, nature trails, fishing pier, and boat ramps, and 12 minutes to the Town of Cape Charles with its restaurants, stores, beaches, parades, marinas, golf courses, and more! brIt's a 45-minute drive to the Virginia Beach oceanfront and about an hour and a half to Chincoteague where you can tour the islands and see the wild ponies and Osprey nests. Williamsburg is a 1 1/2 hour drive; a perfect day trip. Experience a slower pace of life with access to all the fun you want. brNote: The pool is open for Memorial Day.
