In winter, they’re cleared of snow and treated for safe travel. Keep in mind, though, that mountain roads often have winding turns, steep climbs, and narrow sections, so the drive can be an adventure. Depending on where you're coming from, your GPS might suggest the back roads, which are scenic but potentially challenging, especially after dark. If it's your first visit, we recommend sticking to the easy route along the Parkway between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.
